That calculation fails to take into account royalties and tax as well as overheads to produce.
A better calculation would be around 30 to 40 dollars per barrel. Which would come in at 230 million at 17000 barrels per day

That seems like a lot of revenue for a business with a capitalization of just 177 million USD...

16000 barrels a day x 76 dollars a barrel x 365 days equals very nearly 450 million usd.

Theres a poster on LSE that has just suggested that JSE could make revenue of 450 million USD. What are the experts on this board forecasting? It seems a large figure given our cap.

Fardel Bore,

If you had ever travelled across various continents you would be aware that attendants exist.

But then, you know that already having performed that role for years.

Are there any petrol attendants these days? One has to do it oneself I'm afraid. So what does that make you?

yasX - with respect, some high quality research will reveal the field was abandoned as a result of the 4,000 to 5,000 bopd production level no longer supporting the operating cost after the oil price dropped to average $25/bbl during 1999 to 2001.

At $75/bbl Brent, the light oil field, where the production commanded a premium to Brent was highly profitable at that production level.

'Anyone that looked into Adv knew the probability of a commercially successgul hit was less than 30pc at best - read the reports from back then.'

For your comments to be taken seriously please post evidence/a link to such reports since many good investors at the time carried out decent research and I don't recall any posting links(even the trolls) suggesting anything remotely like a 30% at best CoS.

MT,

Don’t want to switch focus on this thread from JSE related matters, but it is completely disingenuous to suggest that Advance Energy had an independently assesses 95pc chance of a commercially viable discovery - CoS of what exactly? It was always unlikely to yield a commercially attractive outcome which is why it was abandoned and nobody wanted it except a tiny, two bit desperate minnow in Adv Energy (which then morphed into Beaconnwhich has fared equally bad.

Only time over the last decade i elected to ignore my O&G sector investment strategy of avoiding pure exploration plays was when making an investment in Advanced Energy - a binary bet on a drill with an independently assessed 95% CoS in a previously high performing field where the IP of new wells averaged 25,000 bopd.

The investment proved that even modern seismic analysis techniques are not infallible - the only redeeming feature was that the management had plenty of skin in the game and shared the pain.

Lesson learned - took the hit on the chin and exited for a £210k loss.

Fortuitously made most of it back within a few months after a good run from my shipping and other O&G investments, including Jadestone Energy.

oAL - Remember XEL very well - over a decade ago carefully researched the company along with Ithaca Energy when the share price of each was around 40p. Opted to make an investment in Ithaca Energy.

Following a highly material increase in production over the next 18 months, shares in Ithaca Energy increased to over 200p - while to the surprise of many, including me, during the same period XEL shares had surged to change hands for circa 450p each based on the development potential of the Bentley heavy oil field - as regularly explained at the time by Andrew Fairclough, Corporate Affairs Director.

Winnet,

If you cast your mind back to the late 90’s the Mail or Mirror ran a story on penguins found in the Falklands covered in oil - all the Falkland plays doubled on the news! I jest not.

I indirectly held Desire at one time due to a holding in a one Gaelic Resources run by Dr Colin Phipps (the 90’s I think, cant remember the exact year)

I've made some O&G howlers too.

DES. Oil to water RNS circa 2010. Lost tens of thousands on that one!

Exactly but XEL is one that is fresh in the minds of some investors as it went from being worth hundreds of millions to zilch! Once again, it's nothing to do with the size of the companies but the outcomes for shareholders! How would he even answer "what is your proudest career moment at a listed company?" That would've been my first question in an interview after seeing the dross that litters his CV!

I wish I knew less than I did about XEL! Unfortunately for me I probably know more than most! I also had the displeasure of meeting the BOD on more than one occasion! While Mr Cole was a disaster the whole BOD were at fault! He was obsessed with "doing it how a major would do it"! The financing strategy was an utter cluster fork ! They got into a dilutive debt spiral where they would issue shares drip fed on a regular basis! They then took out Expensive bonds from the Noggies and when it came to pay up the Noggies wanted a 95% D4E ! The right strategy was to startup the Bentley with a small scale production system and a phased development! The BOD didn't raise cash at the right time and were left negotiating a farm out when they had less cash in the bank than Rupert had in his Bield Side Vila !

Sensible comment as is the norm for you.

Even if one ignores XEL, he was firmly in charge at SENX and look what has happened there.

“After 20 years in oil and gas….”

Regrettably, working as a petrol pump attendant does not give you any credibility.

Hope that helps.

"In this respect, as for the new CFO only having O&G micro/small cap experience - so does Arrow Exploration CEO Marshall Abbott. I doubt few if any PI's could name one of the previous eight small caps that Marshall took over or started from scratch,"--------Mr TeideApples & oranges ! Unfortunately UK based investors can name every miss-step that the companies our new CFO worked at with a great level of detail and therein lies the problem.... I'm not saying have small cap experience is a bad thing! I'm saying having the likes of XEL on your CV is an unmitigated disaster! If I was interviewing him, that's where I would've discontinued the discussion....

With respect to the recent circa 10% pullback in the oil price, JSE has experienced one of the smallest share-price falls in percentage terms among my O&G stocks and, among much of the wider O&G small cap sector.
