Recently went to a pilot show at a massive new film production facility. The place was virtually deserted, except for one massive "hanger", of which only 25% was utilised.
Came way thinking that film and tv shows production were being rationed, on a need, and case by case basis.
I also thought that with todays camera technology, virtually anyone can round up an amateur local production team, that can write the script, use own houses, etc, act, produce, and direct virtually on any subject.
Without an outlet, the financial rewards are at best likely to only cover expenses. On second thoughts, best to do an anonymous housewives film, and sell it to Pornhub. |
No Walter either. |
No buyback RNS today. |
Thought I’d posted earlier but maybe didn’t go through. Let’s assume the press article (of merging the studio ops) is correct. Sounds like talks ongoing (no RNS), & the kind of transaction that you announce (when ready) with results….. clearly positive as it would once again highlight the valuation gap vs the sum of the parts. But probably only worth 10-20p in the share price as ultimately it’s not an outright bid. Another reason for a smaller reaction is that it wouldn’t bring the risk arb community into play as it’s (again) not a bid. The question is whether this puts the company into play for another party. In that scenario all bets would be off and the shares would fly…. Doesn’t feel like that scenario right now however. But expect weekend press to be all over this and I expect another small pop Monday as a result. Imho |
80p 😄🤡128121; |
ItvStudios alone is worth the current Itv mkt cap here according to analysts. Worth keeping in mind. |
Somebody on the other ITV thread mentioned yesterday a bid story coming today...where is it...maybe week end media story... |
Uninspiring volume. SP rise below FTSE100/FTSE 250 percentage
Doesn't smell like anything is happening |
If this does see a jump in the share price to 80p today, I will be surprised.
It is possible that Goldfinger or others has some solid info and that will unfold, however if an approach is made imo the share price will rise more than 10%.
It looks like something may be happening, but I ain't holding my breath. |
From Today's Telegraph newspaperTelegraph bidder RedBird IMI makes move on ITVAbu Dhabi fund wants to build media empire while broadcaster seeks to unlock valueThe Abu Dhabi fund that was blocked from taking control of The Telegraph is pursuing a potentially less controversial tie-up with ITV's production arm as it attempts to build a global media empire.RedBird IMI has stepped up discussions to merge All3Media, the independent production house behind The Traitors, which it acquired for £1.2bn last year, with ITV Studios to create a film and TV powerhouse worth almost £3bn. |
This is all very dull. Where are the fireworks?! LOL
I sincerely hope nothing comes of this studios merger. Continue growing that side of the business organically and judiciously (Plimsoll Productions in '22 and Hartswood Films '24). Or leave the door open for a bid for the full company... |
net - yeah they keep cracking out some great dramas - Joan and Culprits are 2 others we enjoyed recently as well as Out There.
I hope these are being sold worldwide as much as possible :) |
We were watching ITVx again yesterday..... That thriller based in the Welsh farm is very good... "OUT THERE" Martin Clunes and the others do an excellent job |
ITV's strength is in the fact that being a public broadcaster, gives it an advantage over other content studios.
In today's economic "settling" reality, why take on more responsibility that can potentially drain the whole of ITV. A recent announcement of abandoning plans for new studios in Bedfordshire, and the derelict studio site in Hertfordshire by the M25 proves there is over capacity, in the industry.
If Redbird want to unload, let someone else take the "opportunity". |
This looks ready to whooosh. |
Rival bidder (TF1, CVC) still too meek to come out goldy? |
"A merger between the two production giants could create a combined entity valued at approximately £2.8bn. RedBird IMI’s £1.15bn acquisition of All3Media was based on a 12x profit multiple, which, if applied to ITV Studios' £136m profit last year, would suggest a valuation exceeding £1.6bn."
Just wondering what a potential holding split might be - 50/50 is too simplistic as All3Media and ITVStudios bring something different into the pot.
So just using the numbers in articles yesterday, if Redbird brings in a £1.2bn asset and ITV brings in a £1.6bn asset - total £2.8bn would mean ITVs stake is 57%.
Lets be gentlemen and round it up to a clean 60/40 split :)
Going forward then - all this would do is give ITV Group a new income stream from the larger asset - with the assumption that benefits of scale increase profits vs what each entity created previously.
So bottom line all that would change for ITV.L investors is probably an increase in dividends in line with potential increased profits, much else stays the same.
However ... ITV would still be in play medium/longer term as another company might still want to get their hands on ITVs "60%" of the 'new thing' if it does well.
That's what I think anyway!
Looking forward to the results, and next dividend confirmation, or some other corporate RNS before then.
Reasons to sell at this point? Er - zero! |
Snooze 😴 |
What no bid yet?... |
2nd bidder? 🤔 |
Well there it is, a small technical victory - regardless of news flow taking centre stage suddenly. |
