Royston
So, as the Marginal propensity to Consume is higher the lower the income, we should increase taxes on anyone who saves money and pay higher benefits to those who don't work and increase the minimum wage.
How very socialist of you. |
Royston6,with due respect, may i ask what is your highest degree? |
I believe it was Mrs Thatcher that said,it was easier to make a silk purse out of silk. |
If this Govt did just three things that is within their reach, it could spark this dead economy. Choose any three out of six things they could do tomorrow.
Get rid of Stamp Duty on Property. Get rid of Stamp Duty on Shares. Raise IHT to £5 million. Reduce NI for small business. Reduce income tax for all levels. Reduce VAT to 10% Reduce fuel taxes.
Money is the pockets of people from the lowest earners and above will be in the economy in a very short time. So Govt's can assist an economy, but with Labour who operate the politics of envy, they kill it all. |
Contrary to popular belief, governments have no influence on the economy whatsoever, which is simply subject to the natural boom and bust cycles. They just set taxes which get sucked up with minimal effect despite joe public and businesses moaning.

stag6: I'm pretty sure much of the economy is in the hands of the EU, China and USA.. and of course the FTSE100 chieftains. I doubt Mr Starmer, or Ms Reeves will have much affect one way or the other - no UK PMs have had a noticeable effect on the economy since Tony Blair. |
netcurtains...The ITV share price will move up at any sign of a deal being agreed. Like many who think the mention of a deal or that investors are in agreement mean nothing to market. The share price was up yesterday, down last Friday and down again today with nothing happening. MM's and maybe ITV are todays buyers, tomorrow the same.
Stop watching the share price, you will see a large leap if anything like a sell off of the Studios happens any time soon. The UK stockmarket with Starmer and Rachel Reeves in charge of the economy will remain down and out for the next few years. |
Possibly my most ill-judged buy in the history of my ill-judged buying.. 😀 Good thing it was only a top-up otherwise I would not be laughing. Its beginning to look what ever meetings were going on have ended... The ball is probably in someones court and the lookers-on are assuming "no deal" - but of course lookers-on are not insiders they are guessing but better guessing than I can do... |
I agree with your summation Huckers. Yesterday was a lovely move , but disappointing volume. Goldfinger , you seem to be trying to claim some kind of ‘I told you so.’ Yet all the press is about ITV merging or selling their studio business with European , VC or Middle East parties. All you have done (for 3 years), is bang on about a mystery US buyer……. Who has never materialised. Perhaps you should get your pipe seen to…… |
The impression given by recent press stories is that there is pressure from investors on the CEO to have the share price more fully reflect the sum of the parts. So, yes, I agree - it's likely something will take place (even it is just a transaction around ITV Studios alone). Preferably a cash bid for the full company though.
The volume yesterday behind the rise was relatively light. And today it is super low. It's almost as if a lot of holders are sitting on their hands: not buying and not selling. |
I'd have thought that an initial bid of 3bn was a little on the low side even if it is just for part of the business. |
Analysts place £3bn valuation on UK-based production giant
wow thats the other bits of itv for nothing |

Cheers for the update, goldfinger. Much appreciated 👍

Jonny, 80p should have been reached last week as my source forecast. However markets are nervous across the pond. Big worries on tech.ITV are ok, just waiting on the grab which will come soon, my buddy says they will reach close to a 100p on the run up. I scoffed but he is adamant. Naysayers stick that in your pipe. |
The trade press picking up on it. Interesting to see the valuation placed on studios in the article. |
rumours sometimes are true. although sudden unexplained changes in share price late in the day are often more true. |
All the ones you lot were mentioning over the weekend. I was just summarizing my position after reading all your posts. |
