There was only leader who knew in which language to talk to Erdogan: Vladimir Putin. In November 2015, two Turkish F-16 jets shot down a Russian Su-24. Ankara said that as part of the new rules of engagement, any foreign plane violating Turkish airspace would be shot down. Putin immediately downgraded diplomatic relations, announced scores of punishing economic sanctions but, more importantly, he promised that the price Turkey would have to pay would not be limited to the economy and trade.

Erdogan panicked. He sent envoy after envoy to normalize ties with Russia. Moscow demanded an apology, which in mid-2016 Erdogan offered to Putin. Since then, Erdogan has been behaving like a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, led by Russia and China.

Erdogan's balancing act has been successful because his Western counterparts were too naïve in deciphering him and his real political motives. He keeps fighting until the end, so long as he does not perceive or face any imminent major political or economic threat to his rule.

What Awaits Syria in the Future?

The liberation of the Syrian city of Aleppo from ISIS militants along with all sorts of militants that joined this extremist groups has become a veritable breakthrough in the settlement of numerous armed conflicts in the Middle East. This breakthrough manifested in a fragile ceasefire I Syria, that came into effect on December 30, while Russia and Turkey played the role of guarantors of the truce.

However, the fact that this milestone development left Washington along a number of major European players overboard resulted in the White House expressing its scarcely disguised frustration. Against this background, a number of prominent European politicians that remain particularly loyal to the sitting US administration have started forging an alternate perception of the events that unravel in Syria in a bid to derail peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict, even though Russia, Iran and Turkey are pretty determined to successfully disarm the situation in Syria.

One can hardly use any other word than hilarious to describe the fact that Germany, that didn’t take part in the liberation of Aleppo and didn’t provide a single truck of humanitarian help for the population it was allegedly so concerned about, has recently released its “recommendations” regarding the political future of President Bashar al-Assad, along with a list of topics that are to be discussed at the peace talks in Astana.

The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Brennan went a step further in his interview with PBS, claiming that Russia in Syria applied the “scorched earth tactics”, which led to a tremendous amount of damage inflicted upon the Syrian civil infrastructure. Of course, one would assume that a man like John Brennan would know all about the “scorched earth tactics”, since Washington has been using it throughout the last century in Southeast Asia, while bringing it to perfection during the Vietnam War. The same tactics was used in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries where hundreds of thousands of civilians learned to curse the US Air Force and its drones. Still, if Brennan is unable to tell one thing from the other, it would highly inappropriate for someone who represents Washington to accuse other states of committing the US crime of choice.

Tehran has not become a rational and moderate state. Iran has instead become more empowered and emboldened to pursue its revolutionary ideals of anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism.

When it comes to the JCPOA nuclear deal -- which Iran never signed -- Iranian leaders violated the deal three times in the past year.

UN Security Council resolution 2231 is clear. The resolution "calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology."

Iran also increased strategic and tactical cooperation with Russia to undermine US interests, strengthening the Russia-China-Iran axis.

Iran ranks top in the world for executions per capita. Iran also became the world's leading executioner of juveniles.

Turkey's Misdiagnosed Kurdish Problem

Turkey's Kurdish problem is not a military one. On the contrary, the military aspect of the problem is the consequence, not the root cause. Turkey's Kurds have been demanding a homeland since the 19th century -- long before the modern Turkish state was born in 1923.

It is time that Ankara rethinks its diagnosis about the Kurdish dispute. The Turks can start by asking themselves why their Kurdish compatriots choose to live in mountainous hideouts, fight, kill or be killed.

In this year's Rule of Law Index, released by the World Justice Project, Turkey ranked 99th out of 113 countries, scoring worse than Nigeria and Myanmar.

By the way, as it turned out after the liberation of Aleppo, there were no “opposition” groups, no “local councils” or notorious “White Helmets” and various “human rights champions” that Western media sources fell in love with. According to the testimonies of Aleppo civilians, all they had was famine, total terror and the imminent torture and death for those who attempted to leave the territory occupied by radical militants.
Government troops found 3 thousand Jabhat al-Nusra militants in Eastern Aleppo, instead of 200 that were being told about by the corporate media.

In addition, alternative media sources say that the Syrian army in Aleppo has successfully captured foreign military experts, who fought on the side of the radical militants. In particular, the publication of 21st Century Wire says that the Syrian special forces have taken at least 14 US coalition instructors alive, which took refuge in a bunker in the east of Aleppo. The media source publishes a list of their names. Most – them are citizens of Saudi Arabia, but there’s also instructors from Jordan, Morocco, Qatar, the United States and even Israel. While Syrian Syrian journalists claim that Damascus has captured “NATO officers” in Aleppo, including those from the United States, France, Germany and Turkey as well as Israel.
We are now seeing publications about who the so-called “White Helmets” were. There is every reason to believe now that the organization is supervised by the British intelligence services and is directly sponsored by George Soros.

Without a doubt, Aleppo is just beginning to reveal dirty secrets of the Obama administration and its allies, such as Great Britain, France and the EU. And for sure, new “revelations” will not improve the public image of Barack Obama and the policies he has been pursuing.
