No doubt about it, Putin has played a master game and I see he is even more popular in Russia. Just been reading in todays Times that Russian jets were pounding ISIS positions yesterday, so I take back some of what I said in my last post.
Yes will be interesting to see his next move, definitely a master in global strategies.

Putin is one shrewd operator and runs rings around the pathetic amateur west in most of his international dealings for sure.

You can be sure Putin has a further plan up his sleeve for Syria, the EU and Turkey.

I feel its part of Putins Global strategy, a very shrewd move considering the results of the German regional elections and carnage in Turkey yesterday, but lets see how it pans out bearing in mind the so called peace talks are still on.

Yes a surprise move considering when Russia announced their campaign it was to destroy ISIS, yet there have only been a handful of Russia raids on ISIS positions over the last 5 months, not mentioning of course the countless bombings of civilian hospitals over this period.

Loverat - long time since I have seen you posting. Hope you have been keeping well. I think you should consider bring back your History Thread. Think the old CUSS Thread should come back too. Lots of new candidates from our minority brethren.

You have got it bad. There is me thinking China is buying up Africa's mineral resources.Whilst Saudi Arabia with its low cost oil production is, together with Turkey is focusing on backing opposition rebels against Assad whom is backed by his fellow war criminal Putin and Iran whom has its fingers in the pies of Iraq and Yemen.

What evidence do you have of Saudi Arabia taking an interest in african mineral resources in conjunction with Israel? You will be waiting a long time before you see regime change is Saudi Arabia.

Cheers loverat, you have put across some very valid and reasonable points. From a personal point I have a great mistrust of Russia and especially even more so with Putin. I referred to the Assad regime as being barbaric but on reflection I agree with you there and feel that if the Assad regime was to capitulate tomorrow, the place would be a complete disaster. I cannot offer any answers to such a complex problem. Keep the debate up.

Sounds to me it is you are the one being brain washed. The MSF described that as a war crime and difficult to put down as an error when it was bombed to hell. And the US has the nerve to accuse others?

Ask yourself how such mistakes are made. One example - do you reckon the US bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade was a mistake in 1999/2000? Think about it and then think about why and how so much 'collateral damage' is caused by the Americans.

But I still tend to keep an open mind on these matters. I don't listen to the propaganda much of which is coming from the Saudi, Turk, US side in my opinion. Likewise I am very careful what the Russians say. The media is very poor in all these countries.

Also don't take everything the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights say (if that is the source for your information) It is a two bedroom semi in Coventry run by someone who has not stepped inside Syria for 15 years. If you don't believe me look it up.

Read a few more independent sources of information. For starters The Independent Middle East pages are a good starting point in a very poor mainstream coverage.

Keep with the thought of over pumping sea water into the desert, scatter mangrove cuttings here and there, sooner rather than later, there would be an uncommon agricultural policy and abundance of life, especially with the mulched down green carbon, algae blooms, and new crystalised polyhaite multimineral silica seam above Sahara bedrock.
