05/12/2010 14:22 | wolt, just made the lennon connection, 30 yrs since his murder on dec 8th. 1980. merlin, is there something authurian going on on the jtc thread then? i tend not to post there as don't want to risk dilution of the quality postings. the recent musings about privacy/fbook and the like is interesting. we are all celebrities now, or at least we should behave as celebs while on-line. everything is up for scrutiny. everything is recorded. all input is permanent. what would lennon think. Dr Aleks Krotoski, check out the last in her series for more info. | bamboo2
05/12/2010 13:48 | as does this, although not anyone's cup of tea I expect Marshall Jefferson, Kym Mazelle, I'm a Lover dancing 'til dawn (or trying to) in German Army boots and baggy jumpers, in beautiful rolling countryside, sigh... sounds well dated now! | wolterix
05/12/2010 13:15 | yep, bands... :) particularly the lead singer's current squeeze.... amount of trouble they cause! this song reminds me of back then... George Harrison, I'd Have You Anytime. diplomatic....! | wolterix
05/12/2010 12:40 | Bands eh Wolterix ! the personalty clashes are always present as we are only human after all - not to mention fallouts over commercial issues - however, I can confirm that I've never had a royalty issue :-)) Good point about the Power adaoptors as I've got two Line 6 devices units, the Variax and a Basspod and I would've thought these would be compatible although the unit connectors are slightly different sizes. My favoiurite McCartney post beatle songs - Another Day, Bluebird, My love, Mrs Vandebilt | merlin55
05/12/2010 11:51 | with McCartney - if you can bear the lame name-dropping on my part, when I first came to London in my early 20's I lived out in Berkshire (country boy so wasn't quite ready for 'London life' as it were), and thru' one thing and another got to know both Denny Laine and Zak Starkey briefly - Denny didn't have a good word for McCartney, as I think he felt cheated out of some royalties with Mull of Kintyre, whereas Zak didn't have a good word for Denny... interesting though, seeing for example Zak - 'professional' musician, and for all the 'carousing', how seriously he took his 'job' and how much effort he put into it.. good guitar player as well, but he would be, wouldn't he... | wolterix
05/12/2010 11:46 | early one I think Merlin... off eBay of course, and I probably put the wrong power adaptor thru' it, which is something I'm quite good at! sounds like yours will be sorted though? | wolterix
05/12/2010 10:53 | That's 2 of us for McCartney then ...... | merlin55
05/12/2010 10:52 | Now you tell me Wolt :-) What model did you have? At least Digital Village are arranging repair and carriage FOC | merlin55

05/12/2010 10:27 | oooff Lennon v's McCartney - it is a tough one... I find McCartney's skill comes through when you hear someone else cover one of his songs... like Cilla, for example! For No One | wolterix
05/12/2010 09:49 | Hi Bamboo, Wolt, yes JTC thread is excellent for serious investors and JTC is extremely knowledgable and is a wholly decent bloke. I have known JTC for about 35 years and he was my best man. We tend to do our investment talking over a beer as well as discussions about songwriting/recordin Re John Lennon, yes, a great songwriter, but I've always disliked his vocal sound. My favourite Lennon track is "starting over", but I do prefer McCartney's solo writing personally. PS: My Variax has just stopped working - i.e. no sound. Waiting for a courier to collect and take it back to the retailer - this is disappointing as I've only used it at home and it's still got the pick guard film on it. | merlin55

D G D G B D -- Open G / Spanish Tuning / Taro Patch Pat Kirtley says that this tuning is derived from 5-string banjo tuning, and has been in use since at least 1880. This seems very likely, since the standard tuning for 5-string banjo is g D G B D (low to high, with a light hign-tuned G string for what would otherwise be the lowest string). Mary McCaslin says it is "...probably the most popular open tuning." Tune the 6th, 5th and first strings down a full tone. This tuning can be thought of as a step beyond Double Drop-D tuning: the 5th string is also lowered a full step, leaving the 'middle' three strings as in standard tuning, in which they just happen to form a G major triad. Open G tuning has been used extensively for bottleneck slide-guitar styles by many of the great Mississippi Delta bluesmen, notably Charley Patton - High Water Everywhere, Screamin' And Hollerin' The Blues, Sun House, Robert Johnson - Travelin' Riverside, Bukka White, Willie Brown, Muddy Waters and Mance Lipscomb. It's been used more recently by blues-saturated players such as John Hammond - Drop Down Mama, and Bonnie Raitt - Write Me a Few of Your Lines. | bamboo2
