An old axiom of the stock market has it that a stock that falls by over 50% will then decline to 25%. This has fulfilled that... from a spike to 2.60 down to 60p. We are now at the reversal of the 5 year decline / chart. Flag forming at the bottom if it can be sustained. From last year, I notice that the bod now has the freedom to use cash either to buy shares or reward shareholders. I think the former might be an effective way of marking any successful future exit.

Brucie, price hit the overhead gap resistance zone 77.7-77.3, dated 6/6/2019

The gap occurred whilst Woodford was disposing of his IPO holding.

The gap coincides with some historical resistance, and will require some time and volume to push through.

Brucie, If no objections from anyone, I will set it up in the next day or two.

I have held some of the original constituents at various times, such as TRX, IKA and XSG, so have some historical knowledge, although the size and complexion of IPO Group is much changed over recent years.

Brucie, and anyone else interested,
The header is way out of date.
Is Outsider still around for a refresh?
Do we need a new thread?

I would quite like a candlestick chart or two in the header.

Anyone want to take this on, or should I?

Interesting, Wilmer. It could be a full time hobby going through the many situations represented here. It would be nice if we could find an interpreter! Nanopore seems to be the main asset here, and more than enough to the be cracking on with. I'd like to know what chance there might be for it to become publically listed, and if this has been discounted, why so.

https://youtu.be/DtvcEkIb4D4One of the reasons invested in IP group is because of First Light Fusion. If they have been successful in achieving Fusion, which was their Aim for 2019, They would now be looking for further funding, I believe, to do the experiment to achieve gain.IPO seem to me to be building a large cash pile could some of this pile be for the further founding of FLF?Does anyone have any thoughts on this, as FLF haven't said they failed at achieving Fusion or indicated any delays.

Well that's good to hear. I think this could be a secular reversal, based on;
1. rock bottom sentiment compounded by the Invesco/Woodford fiasco
2. numerous fundraisings with nothing to show
3. lack of trust leading to discount to net value of underlying shares
4. basic time lag involved in 'time to market' of tech shares.

But look at what is currently happening in CWR, in which IPO hold >18%. I only hope they won't take further profits prematurely. Then, Oxford Nanopore is clearly exciting, and has received 451m* of investor funds so far. This compared with a 750m mcap for IPO as a whole.
Oxford Nanopore has raised a total of £451M.

This is a good bet (IMO) on UK university technology, at a time when it's one of the few things at we're world beaters, and the world badly needs technology to solve it many problems. Also, the fact that Woodford was too early to the party, seems a likely indicator that he saw many of the things that attract us also, despite overegging his enthusiasm unfortunately.

*Edit: Add to that today's 30m raise makes 481m. Today's RNS should really be studied. Among other things:

"IP Group plc (LSE: IPO) ("IP Group" or "the Group"), the developer of intellectual property-based businesses, notes that its portfolio company Oxford Nanopore Technologies Limited ("Oxford Nanopore") has announced that it has raised GBP29.3 million of new capital and facilitated the secondary sale of GBP80.2 million of shares, an aggregate investment of GBP109.5 million.
Following completion of the transaction, IP Group will hold an undiluted beneficial stake of 16.4% in Oxford Nanopore, the company behind the only real-time DNA/RNA sequencer that can sequence any read length and is fully scalable from smaller portable formats to larger devices for population-scale sequencing. The directors expect that this transaction will result in a fair value gain to the Group of approximately GBP12 million compared with Oxford Nanopore's last financing round in March 2018 and that the Group's holding will be valued at approximately GBP264 million. IP Group will realise GBP22.0 million cash from a partial sale of its holding in Oxford Nanopore as part of the secondary element of the transaction.
In addition, IP Group announces that cash realisations during 2019 totalled more than GBP75 million compared to the GBP30 million achieved in 2018. This excludes the GBP22 million partial realisation of Oxford Nanopore noted above. As a result, the Group anticipates that gross cash resources at 31 December 2019 will be significantly in excess of the GBP161 million reported at 30 June 2019. "

That's over 20% in cash.

Like I said on the original post, if I'm right on this call, there will be ample time to add here while the picture improves. The BoD have every incentive to catalyse this improvement.

Hi Brucie, I am also watching the chart closely, and have noted todays gap up above the 200sma. The gap is now filled intraday.

There is a breakaway gap 12/12/19, these are often seen at the start of a trend change and can remain unfilled for long periods.

Two patterns that have my attention are the Double Bottom, and recent Flag.

DB requires an eod close above 71.5 to confirm a min tp approx 82
Flag needs eod close above 74 to confirma tp approx 82.4

Looks to me like IPO has at last slipped its moorings. This has showed on the EMAs for some time; but today also on the SMAs. Five year low with basing pattern from August at 60p. One year ago it stood at 1.10, so this would be my first target.

@Guildedge - it was options expiry & Index re-jigging. IPO not in/out of anything but hence the large volume few p spike (quite a few others in same boat in auction, up or down).

Does seem to be a big spike here! The UT trade today was for 2m+ shares. That is a big buy considering the usual UT volume.

Any ideas why? All the PLC firms of theirs I have followed have been doing terribly according to share price. I think maybe 2-3 of these private firms are doing well? That or other changes recently have had a major plus? They do have 30-40 companies. Sooner or later by luck one had to do well.

The spike seemed to follow thw Oxford Nanopore news. Maybe this is a sign Oxford Nanopore could be about to take off value wise. In which case Woodford sold cheaply?

The share is still well below it's NAV. Albeit selling for this price would be tough.

Have sold into the spike but good luck holders - wouldn't take many successes to really shift it (mainly due to the dearth of them over many years!).

Oxford Nanopore Technologies are participating in a large scale (100,000) genome sequencing programme in Abu Dhabi which could well boost IP Groups share price in the medium term as this may lead to additional contracts.

Noted in EWI's finals out yesterday:

In the second half of the financial year we added to the holding in Oxford Nanopore as some existing shares became available. We have been impressed with how nanopore sequencing is gaining traction in the scientific research community driven by technological differentiation and low-cost accessibility.

Invesco don't seem to have a lot of luck, halved their holding in CSRT two weeks before a cash bid today.

FWIW, Invesco disposed of approx 24% of TRX yesterday, leaving them with just over 5%

Share price has recovered approx 45%
