12/8/2007 21:28 | friars3 - me too Wild Bill - 14 Feb'07 - 16:17 - 177 of 354 edit This product would be fantastic for long haul flights. No more stiff necks from trying to get the angle right. Rent them on short haul, think of the added revenues for airlines. How much are they retailing for, any idea? (unionhall, I checked, ain't nobody here but us chickens............ | wild bill
12/8/2007 21:02 | Not sure - I'll check.... | unionhall

10/8/2007 07:49 | I can see airlines going made for the head sets | friars3
09/8/2007 07:54 | No idea SS. The only commercial use that I know of was the night-vision binoculars from the Hong Kong company a couple of years ago. That was using an earlier version of the product and I'm not even sure the new product is compatible. There have been other development uses, including the Mobintech personal display glasses and the Rodenstock sports glasses. There's not much of a clue where the stock is going to from the company either: Production volumes will ramp up in the second half of 2007 and the first half of 2008 in order to meet the growing demand which is reflected in additional 'design in' projects and the signing of exclusive distribution agreements, to date covering Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Korea, Israel and much of Europe. | thecurrymonster
08/8/2007 23:27 | Does anyone know to what use the first shipments of screens will be put to? They are going to be a good promotion of the product if they are not used as door stops.:-) | superhero si
31/7/2007 22:02 | Nothing bad - thats for sure - a rising tide etc. Not clear what the direct impact will be tho'. It is certainly a positive boost for the technology. good find Pawdaw | unionhall
31/7/2007 21:53 | Well there's the answer. Acquired by Sumitomo of Japan. I wonder what implications this has for MED. | pawdaw
31/7/2007 20:10 | MED is a licensee of CDT (Cambridge Display Technology) which goes under the marvellous abbreviation OLED (presumably standing for organic light emitting diode) on the Nasdaq. And all the brainchild originally of Prof. Richard Friend at Cambridge (UK). I have just noticed that after an almost interminable time of bobbing around 5 to 7 cents or therabouts that OLED has shot up 88% as I write. Wonder what's up? | pawdaw
29/7/2007 11:04 | Interesting puffin - thanks for the link. | unionhall
29/7/2007 08:49 | Found this competing technology, apologies if this board has already given it the once-over. Any comments/info? | puffin tickler
29/7/2007 08:42 | I see another user of user CDT technology is building a factory in Dresden, in their case to make electronic paper displays. World's first series production of electronic paper displays to be in Dresden Dresden, Germany - 23 May 2007 - Production to start with 140 workers in 2008 Dresden, Europe's leading research and microelectronics location, has once more won the day in global competition between top locations. Its latest success: the British company Plastic Logic Limited, a spin-out from Cambridge University, is currently building a new production site for a total of 96 million euro between the AMD microchip fab and Dresden airport. From 2008, a new generation of flexible displays, known as "electronic paper displays" (e-paper displays) will be produced in series at the factory; a global first. | puffin tickler
27/7/2007 18:19 | 'fraid I cannot help you there as not being from the UK it would be impolite to comment. Not the only place with those problems though. Strong Ideals-led governments required. In very short supply at the moment. It is now 2.15am - are the sleeping pills not working ? | unionhall
27/7/2007 18:00 | sounds like you've had a rough ride - I know, have another beer !! never been to china, just now I wouldn't have the energy to face all the stress. Hope the flooding hasn't impacted on you too much. | unionhall
27/7/2007 17:49 | A few too many beers in the far east (or Perth) sounds just the job Xi'An, China, and I needed beer after the last three days of stress I've had! I love China though even though the storms last night reminded me of the UK and the insurance hassle I've still got to deal with for last week's flooded car episode :-( Not looking forward to returning next week to be honest! | thecurrymonster
27/7/2007 17:23 | cheers, thanks. I didn't take proper note of your response. A few too many beers in the far east (or Perth) sounds just the job - enjoy... | unionhall
27/7/2007 17:16 | Unionhall - actually, I just found my post - it wasn't that far back, and was in reply to you then: "unionhall, Regarding the price - I have not seen any definite figures from MED - perhaps somebody can find out at the AGM (I'm not sure whether I will be able to make it). However, the best I do have is from this article: It is currently setting up a new production line in Dresden, which will provide the company with enough capacity for £50m in annual sales Elsewhere the figures for the Dresden facility all quote a capacity of 10m units. For example: ....once fully ramped, the Dresden facility will have the capability to produce 10 million microdisplays per annum. Therefore it would seem that £5 per unit would be about right." | thecurrymonster
27/7/2007 17:11 | Unionhall, I posted what I knew about pricing a while back on this thread - I'll see if I can find it, but the search facilities here aren't great, and I'm not going to try and remember it, because it's 1 AM here and I've had a few (too many) beers! | thecurrymonster
27/7/2007 17:02 | I know I've asked this before but to get a handle on potential revenue does anyone know what an estimated sale price per unit might be ? We could then extrapolate from the Full volume of 10m units per year from the Dresden facility. | unionhall
27/7/2007 16:56 | I still don't understand why MED think that a sauasage munching, beer swilling jolly for the insties to Dresden warrants an RNS, but the sales push in Europe doesn't. Am I the only person on the planet that thinks that the European Rep/stocking agreement is reasonbly significant as far as future business is concerned? At least the important trade press have picked up on it, with articles in Electronics Weekly and Electronics Times: | thecurrymonster
26/7/2007 17:53 | I took it the site visit was today. Perhaps the institutions were happy with what they saw.... | unionhall |
