Biggest Microbial Fuel Cell Pee Power urinal to date to be located near Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury

author Added by FuelCellsWorks, June 16, 2017

PEE POWER® has been given a prime location at Glastonbury Festival just a few hundred metres from the Pyramid stage to showcase turning urine into electricity.

Developed by scientists at the Bristol Bioenergy Centre (BBiC) in the Bristol Robotics Laboratory at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), Pee Power has been shown to be capable of powering lights and charging mobile phones.

This year the urinal, which is the closest to the Pyramid stage at this years' festival, will for the first time power up displays giving information and festival updates.

Professor Ioannis Ieropoulos, Director of the BBiC, said, “Our Pee Power work has featured at the festival for the past two years. This year we have been given a huge boost with a prime space for our biggest ever 40 person Pee Power urinal.

Fake news about hydro because hydro industries is no more in India and this company dissolved in 2016. Telecom is big business but in entire south Asia, fuelcell powered towers are not even in 2 digits. Battery has grab the market share in storage and solar is also getting cheaper than cheapest. Cost reduction and regulatory support can only decide the business future of any fuel cell company in south Asian telecom market.

and let us not forget that IEH is also involved in water purification ... (collaborating with Hydro Industries) especially in India .... this hits the news now and then so read this .... appeared recently ...

Background is here .....

A lot of this stuff never justifies an RNS .... but between water purification, drones, embedded fuel cells in PEDs, motive, combined heat and power, GenSets (Luxfer-GTM), military (Walkie Talkies, headcams, laser weapons etc) and maybe the off-grid cell towers market is not dead and buried yet .... it'll come ....

Well spotted ibug. I rarely look for stuff like this. I tend to try and see where the whole HFC shebang is heading. If the valuation of the IP is correct, I stick by my claim this is a 6 bagger ....

AS an example ... diesel engine company diversifies into HFCs etc.

Yet another previously diesel only company who may be in a rush to license or buy IEH tech or do a M&A if they're big enough ... interesting the profile IEH have in the US .... the PINC and Luxfer-GTM deals both came from there .... it would be logical to assume more news will come from there ... I wonder where the first announced order for FCM 800 series will come from

PLENTY OF NEW ORDERS :))) ---- Interestingly, with this growing pipeline of new business being won since February revenues are going to translate into cash generative free cash flow at some point.

Note what the CEO said just last week about new FCM 800 Series orders:

It is an international launch and orders are now being taken, the company said.

Surely this is becoming a classic production led turn-around scenario.

Intelligent Energy shares rise on fuel cell product launch

Investors welcomed the product launch news, with the London-listed share rising 14% in Wednesday’s early deals.

Orders are now being taken for the FCM-800 fuel cells

Loughborough based Intelligent Energy Holding PLC (LON:IEH) has today launched a new range of zero-emissions fuel cell technology.

The commercial product range, the FCM-800 series, comprises fuel cell modules suited to both stationary and portable applications, and are capable of delivering between one and four kilowatts.

It is an international launch and orders are now being taken, the company said.

"It (IEH) works with taxi firm Manganese Bronze and has helped build a fleet of 15 zero emission black cabs for the Olympic Games.

Last month it signed a joint venture agreement with Suzuki to develop the world’s first mass produced fuel cell powered cars and motorcycles in Japan.

Intelligent Energy is also working with five automotive companies in Europe and the Far East to develop vehicles powered by its air-cooled cell technology in time for State-backed hydrogen vehicle production programmes in Germany and the UK, Dr Winard added.

Nissan, Tata, Toyota, Vauxhall, Daimler and Hyundai are among 13 companies working with the Government to bring hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles to market in the UK.

Ballard's management were slated for doing the VW deal which was prompted by VW's need to re-invent itself post-dieselgate. Meanwhile, IEH can say to anyone that doesn't want to pay to license IEH's IP and tech "go and spend years and billions trying to re-invent the hydrogen fuel cell without using our IP" ...... the tech in HFCs BELONGS to whoever owns the tech's IP ...... so, anyone who wants to develop their own HFCs either does it avoiding IEH's 1800 od patents (some oending) or coughs up the dosh ... how can I put this? ....

if, for example. you wanted to make salt n vinegar crisps without licensing the flavour, you'd have to go and find something else that tasted like salt n vinegar ... why the hell should anyone do that when licensing the IP for current salt n vinegar flavours would guarantee you could make salt n vinegar crisps now ... whilst spending years trying to make your own salt n vinegar flavour would cost a fortune in R&D and you may never find anything else better than what you could have licensed years earlier .....

it's completely logical that companies that want to use HFCs will go to a specialist HFC developer for help .... if you want to make lawnmowers, you don't start an engine company ... you buy the motors in from Briggs and Stratton or Honda .....

Just one automotive deal will make the IEH graph go off the page ..... and then there's all the other stuff .... I do have a bit of VERY interesting HFC related inside info from Norway regarding decommissioning oil and gas rigs in the North Sea ... The estimates for decommissioning the UK's sector of the North Sea is £24 billion ... the Norwegian Sector should be more ...... it's pretty simple to work out how you power installation decommissioning once a well has been capped .....

HERE IS A RECAP ABOUT THE BALLARD Deal with Volkswagon that a similar deal might be struck by IEH with one of it's four major car manufacturing research partners. THIS RECENT DEAL WAS STRUCK LAST September.

An interesting feature of the Ballard-Volkswagon deal is that the tech sold is a renewable non-exclusive agreement with a timeline that expires in 2019 worth $80M - $112M USD. Ballad said that they expect the deal to yield far more revenue in the future as the H2 market in China takes off. The Ballard team are clearly highly skilled negotiators to have put together the Volkswagon contract. Before the last September deal Ballard was a loss making business and they are now making a significant number of commercial deals after a long period of failure to commercialize their products.

This article clearly illustrates similarities to IEH. THAT LINK HAS A PROBLEM SINCE I LAST VIEWED IT BUT THE INFO PROVIDED IS A VABATUM ACCOUNT OF WHAT IT SAID.

IEH have been trying to commercialize their products for a long time and just like Ballard's were surprised at the lack of progress. However now that the business is far more keenly focused they now have a steady stream of success that is expected to build with significant numbers of medium volume contracts. The catalyst of change will most likely come from marketing Pro UAV Drones as the market demands longer flight times and faster recharging than Lithium batteries; and also from the long standing Suzuki relationship. Which is highly likely to yield large volume production orders for the 4KW air cooled HFC's.

It would not be surprising to see IEH do a similar contract as Ballard's for their 100KW HFC in the growing H2 bus space.

Ballard Energy sold out it's IP on a type of leasing agreement --- but they failed to see the much higher reward revenues from manufacturing fuel cells.

IEH has waited and will non-the-less be rewarded with the huge revenues from their determined research to produce a world beating product.

Relative to the IP issue, I think this is important ... from

hxxps://fuelcellsworks.com/archives/2015/02/13/intelligent-energy-welcomes-volkswagen-group’s-substantial-commitment-to-fuel-cell-powertrains/

The announcement yesterday that the Volkswagen Group has acquired a portfolio of patents from fuel cell provider Ballard for approximately £32m is a strong indication of the growing importance of this zero-emission power source to the global automotive industry. James Batchelor, Managing Director of Motive at Intelligent Energy, believes this agreement significantly reduces Ballard’s offering in the mass market automotive sector, thereby confirming Intelligent Energy as the leading independent fuel cell developer and implementation partner for vehicle manufacturers.

Following just a few weeks after major announcements in this sector, including statements by Toyota and Honda, the ongoing commitment of another of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers is a clear indication that fuel cell technologies are now firmly established on the automotive agenda.

“With investment in fuel cell technology reported to have cost a number of global car makers billions of pounds, a faster and more cost-effective alternative to the in-house route is to collaborate with an industry-respected specialist, such as Intelligent Energy,” comments Batchelor. “This approach is proving very effective with our major customers, who value access to our next-generation, high power, cost-effective fuel cell systems and our future technology roadmaps, as well as the system-level integration expertise we provide to accelerate the development process for early series production.”

“This news from another top global auto manufacturer will also stimulate wider public and industry interest in fuel cell technologies,” continues Batchelor. “The scale of Volkswagen Group’s new commitment to fuel cell technology means that the drive towards zero-emission fuel cell vehicles will be further accelerated. This announcement is to be warmly welcomed by everyone who believes in a low-carbon future.”

"Intelligent Energy has a number of significant commercial and technical agreements in place with vehicle manufacturers worldwide, including with the Suzuki Motor Corporation who paid £45m in 2012 for non-exclusive access to use a part of Intelligent Energy’s intellectual property portfolio in a limited field of application. This deal, which represents only the upfront element of a more substantive royalty-based licensing agreement, leaves Intelligent Energy free to enter into similar agreements with other customers. "

"The company is also engaged in the third year of a substantial ongoing programme of fuel cell system and technology development with a leading European Premium Car Manufacturer. Under the terms of this engagement, there is an option agreement between the two parties that provides for the non-exclusive access to certain elements of Intelligent Energy’s intellectual property portfolio which, if exercised in full, would lead to a payment of many hundreds of millions of pounds."

I asked a few days ago for examples where someone like Meditor had gained control of a company like IEH in the manner suggested by some posters on here. No takers yet. I can see their point but at the same time, I would not expect Meditor to lend money without some kind of security which, in this case is the IP .... no different to a bank owning your house whilst you pay the mortgage on it and live in it ....

The UAV market seems to be growing quickly with announcements every week of new deals in differing sectors. Of course, there are a few companies claiming to be producing "class leading" HFCs for drones but then again, with a market set to grow so fast, many will want a piece of the action

ANOTHER INCREDIBLE MARKET FOR FUEL CELLS imo:

Hydrogen for Home Heating Gets A Push in Europe From Panasonic

➞ Sales through German partner scheduled to begin in August

➞ Germany was first overseas market for home fuel cells

Panasonic Corp. will begin selling its residential fuel-cell systems in the U.K. and Austria this year as it seeks to solidify its lead in a product category that some see as a stepping stone to harnessing hydrogen as the fuel of the future.

Sales through German partner Viessmann Group will begin in August, Shinsuke Morita, sales and marketing manager for Panasonic’s smart energy system business division, told reporters in Tokyo on Friday.

Hydrogen-powered fuel cells -- known in Japan as ene-farms -- promise to revolutionize the way energy is delivered to the home. Ene-farms use natural gas pumped from local utilities into a fuel cell that uses a processor to extract hydrogen. The hydrogen is mixed with oxygen from the surrounding air to produce electricity, with excess heat used to supply a home with hot water.

IP Valuations

To estimate IP valuations it is worth considering the valuation of the Ballard Energy 100KW automotive fuel cells which Ballard effectively leased out on a non exclusive agreement with Volkswagon last September worth between $80 - $120 million USD for just three years. That agreement comes up for renewal September 2019.

Ballard's business model has been historically very similar to that of IEH and both company's have had difficulty commercializing there IP into saleable products. But now Ballard's are steaming ahead with a monthly success rate to win over new customers making their business today profitable and viable with an share price of about $2:50 USD

But the Ballard Energy IP is far smaller and less efficient than the IEH innovations. IEH have developed more than 1800 patents that includes at least a dozen or more main stream fuel cell systems developed for specific markets along with H2 gas cartridges for drones and portable devices.

If all the IEH 1800+ patents were sold with an 'Average Price' of just 500,000 then the total IP would be worth 0.9 Billion USD.
