Well done iBug. I was just about to post this myself. ITM just opened their Teddington Hydrogen refuelling station and they have signed a deal with Commercial Group who run vans servicing and supplying London offices with IT, soncumables, services etc.. For companies like Commercial Group, running hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles makes a lot of sense since the congestion and Ultra Low Emission Zone charges they would run up using more polluting vehicles would be significant. I presume that (since polluting vehicles will be charged extra to drive in London from October 2017) we'll see quite an increase in the use of HFC powered vehicles ... plumbers, electricians, limos, taxis, utilities, public transport, delivery vans etc. will all be able to look at the savings of running an HFC powered vehicle over its life time ... which means ... for anyone outside of London, London could see a glut of perfectly good but polluting vehicles coming onto the market. London car auctions will be a great place to get a cheap vehicle in 2017!!

Sadiq Khan proposes early delivery of Ultra-Low Emission Zone

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, today laid out bold detailed proposals for delivering the Central London Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in 2019, a year ahead of schedule, extending the ULEZ to the North and South Circular in 2019 or later, and started the formal consultation necessary to introduce the ‘T charge’ for older polluting vehicles in October 2017.

The proposals are part of the Mayor’s second air quality consultation led by
Sadiq Khan proposes early delivery of Ultra-Low Emission Zone

Transport for London (TfL), which follows on from the initial round of consultation last summer, which attracted a record 15,000 responses.

It is estimated that the equivalent of 9,400 premature deaths occur each year in London due to illnesses caused by long-term exposure to air pollution and 448 schools in London are in areas exceeding legal air quality levels.

Diesel vehicles are recognised as a major contributor to pollution and associated health impacts in London and the Mayor wants to phase out these vehicles from the bus, taxi and other fleets.

The Mayor launched the new consultation whilst visiting St Saviour’s and St Olave’s Church of England Secondary School in Southwark, situated off the busy, traffic heavy, New Kent Road, an area that would be included in the Mayor’s proposals for ULEZ expansion to the North and South Circular.

Intelligent Energy to participate in TowerXchange Africa on October 19th and 20th, 2016
Published on Fri 7 October, 2016

Loughborough (UK) — ;6 October 2016 - Intelligent Energy, the energy technology company, will be attending TowerXchange Africa Meetup on 19-20th October in Johannesburg. The Meetup will bring together executives from across the ;telecom infrastructure industry in the Africa region and beyond.

For over a year, Intelligent Energy has deployed a number of its “305” modular fuel cell power units to power remote tower sites in India, half of them providing prime power 24/7 in off-grid locations.

To date, these units have delivered over 42MWh of clean and efficient power to these telecom towers. As well as providing an uptime close to 100 per cent, the breakthrough clean energy project has, over the past 12 months, saved both more than 157 tonnes of CO2 emissions and nearly 47,000 litres of diesel.

India’s telecoms network burns billions of litres of diesel every year in backup generators to keep telecom towers operational because of persistent grid failure.
Martin Bloom, Intelligent Energy’s Group CEO, sees the enormous potential of these systems. “The sites running our fuel cell technology in India confirm the efficiency and reliability of our technology.

We see these as a global solution and are exploring a range of sectors and geographies for our back up power and diesel replacement systems.”

Hydrogen fuel cells are proving to be more efficient and cleaner and our solution can be more economical on a total cost of ownership basis than diesel generators.

If you would like to get in touch with Intelligent Energy to arrange a meeting either at TowerXchange Africa Meetup or afterwards, please contact Lee Juby or Karen McClellan. Alternatively, you can email marketing@intelligent-energy.com

EXPECT ORDERS TO FLOW FOR TELECOM TOWERS...Africa has a real need right across the continent.

Also the company have loads of other opportunities in other sectors....plenty of business opportunities coming our way imo.

Great - this could potentially be the next significant step up for IEH if they succeed in winning business. If they don't it could be a slow downward spiral from here.

and .... Germany .... knowing many of its car manufacturers are already geared up to produce zero emission cars not only wants internal combustion engine powered cars phased out by 2030 but wants the same over the whole EU. And IEH won't make any money out of this? I reckon they'll do nicely simply out of licencing IP even if they do nothing but R&D!

"Germany wants to push its citizens to buy more environmentally friendly cars. The country’s federal council a.k.a the Bundesrat has passed a resolution calling for a ban on new internal combustion engine cars by 2030. Once the ban is enforced, citizens will only be allowed to buy a zero-emissions car, it won’t matter if it runs on a hydrogen fuel cell or electricity, it just can’t have an internal combustion engine.

Germany can enforce laws in its country but it can’t do that for the entire European Union. The Bundesrat has called on the European Commission to implement this ban across the entire European Union. There’s a real possibility of that happening as Germany is one of the strongest and most influential nations in the bloc and tends to shape EU policy.
The country will likely consider providing incentives to customers who pick up zero-emissions cars, what those incentives are going to be remains unknown at this point, but it’s possible that the incentives may include tax breaks.
Germany has a robust automotive industry as its manufacturers make some of the most sought-after cars in the world. Auto giants such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW are all working on electric cars so they are already preparing for the future that the representatives are charting out."

Latest ....... I think this shows that even if the drone has nothing to do with IEH, it uses technology which may well need to be licensed from IEH if one of their 1,000 plus patents covers the membrane ..... we may not get an RNS .... we may just find the income from patents rising every year ....

"SHARJAH: A team of researchers at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) successfully conducted a hydrogen fuel cell powered multi-rotor drone flight late last week, in front of the university Main Building.

This is the first flight of its kind outside North America.

The team includes Dr Mohamed Gadalla, Professor in Mechanical Engineering, as the research team leader; Dr Sayem Zafar, a laboratory instructor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering; and John Mempin; a research technician and certified pilot.

The drone is powered by a Proton Exchange Membrane hydrogen fuel cell (PEMFC) and is able to maintain steady hover and forward flight.

The test flight was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of using a hydrogen fuel cell in multi-rotor drones.

Fuel cell powered multi-rotor drones are capable of flying for many hours compared to the traditional battery powered drones with a flight endurance of 15 to 20 minutes.

Hydrogen fuel cells create electricity by decomposing hydrogen while producing water as exhaust.

Fuel cells are attractive as power systems because of their high energy density, which allows longer endurance.

With the current fuel cell technology, fuel cells can power drones, as demonstrated by the test flight, to provide a low-cost alternative to many services.

Gadalla noted that the long-endurance drone has many applications, “namely for parcel delivery, healthcare, first aid, border patrol, infrastructure inspection, survey applications, rescue, media, educational or environmental study.”

In addition, Zafar noted, “It is the first ever outdoor flight of hydrogen fuel drone flight with vertical take-off and landing capability.

“Only two other companies have done it before, and that was indoors only. This is a huge leap forward towards more electric aircraft. The flight performs operational tasks, which makes it unique and a practically usable drone.”

The same team at AUS conducted the first ever fixed wing hydrogen fuel cell UAV flight in the UAE and GCC in Aug.2015.

Yes, but the company have been getting millions of pounds of support from four Asian car manufacturers and a German one...so what has happened to those developments and what is planned for the 90KW HFC and Range extender?. I'm expecting more developments in that arena resulting in commercial deals along with perhaps Suzuki Motors.

No, the R&D isn't finished - it's been halted e.g. no / little R&D activity taking place. The EC team was stripped down to 6 or so key individuals, but apart from those the rest were allowed to leave.

Filster---exactly, all the R&D is finished with a car specific 90KW HFC and is now mothballed until orders arrive for manufacturing or patent payments.

But what is the auction call period...as I'm not familiar with that?.

@ibug they also said, at the Analyst and Investors briefing that all EC projects were mothballed and the 'German Premium Brand Motor manufacturer' had an option, but it was only exercisable by the manufacturer, but at least did not tie IEH to them exclusively.

The only visible project in any terms is the SMILE one with Suzuki and that doesn't really seem to be going anywhere fast at the moment.. I don't think we've been able to see much traction in the 'Motive' part of the company but maybe it's well hidden, but is also certainly minuscule in terms of returns.

I am hoping that the Annual Report contains some decent uplift in terms of revenue, but that might be tempered with a slowdown in the R&D Tax Credits benefit that IEH will enjoy this year but possibly not as much next year.

The recent rise in the share price over the last few days maybe in preparation for a MoS article which often happens or rumours about an impending RNS about new business. The end of year results won't be published until November....so news stories or purchase orders perhaps.
