Share price going down - Just wondering weather they are trying to get some share in ready for tomorrow? O K perhaps I am just living in hope. I have a little niggle in my mind the results won't come up to expectations. Any comments welcome.

BEAM.TV and IMD (Independent Media Distribution) are working closely together to create a pioneering digital delivery package for advertising agencies. Last week saw successful completion of the UK's first digital commercial delivery, via sophisticated end-to-end digital IP technology, when a Nestle commercial from Ogilvy and Mather was delivered to Viacom-owned MTV via BEAM.TV and IMD.

Digital delivery benefits include flexibility, tracking, speed and cost-efficiency. This new model opens up the conventional playout schedule into a flexible timetable whilst eliminating couriers from the playout equation to guarantee successful delivery in real time. By relying on one sole digital master file, rather than duplicated video tapes and couriers, agency and advertiser will also experience significant cost savings.

Until now commercials have been delivered to broadcasters either by sending video tape or by playing the commercial in video form through the Telecom Tower's fibre optic line which links to some, but not all, broadcasters. The latter operates a strict schedule where playout slots are limited.

IMD has an established seven-year history of distributing radio commercials to stations and has recently entered the television market by working with record companies to deliver music videos to TV stations. To turn digital delivery into a reality, IMD has completed installation of a completely new technological infrastructure, including dedicated 100 Megabit per second fibre connections and custom software and hardware in each TV station.

IMD is importing the necessary technology into its emerging network of broadcasters, spanning Channel Four, Chart Show TV, CNBC, EMAP, IDS/Flextech, Kingston inmedia, London News Network and Viacom. IMD is currently in negotiations with other UK and Irish broadcasters with the aim of having a full network of sites up and running later this year

BEAM.TV will use its established relationships with agencies and post production facility houses, like The Mill and Rushes, to help facilitate digital delivery from agency to facility house through to TV station. BEAM.TV already offers thorough playout ordering facilities and so will act as an intermediary between agency and IMD, providing one centralised communication point and one unified invoice for agencies. BEAM.TV is also integrating its archiving facilities into the new package so that each new digital file master that is ordered for playout is also automatically archived to provide agencies with tailor-made, high-quality online commercials libraries.

The BEAM.TV / IMD model closely involves facility houses as a means of guaranteeing full quality control, for example – in protecting broadcast masters against drop out. BEAM.TV will also deliver digital master files to the BACC (Broadcast Advertising Control Centre) for approvals at no extra cost.

"We aim to provide a digital solution for all broadcasters, that excludes no-one and delivers everywhere," said David McMurtrie, IMD's CEO. "We want to work with as many companies as possible to provide an all-round solution for our clients, and BEAM.TV is well placed to help us do that. It's well regarded within the advertising community due its successful digital archive and management of pre-broadcast material. We're re-designing our end delivery technology with BEAM.TV's user interface to make sure all software between both companies is fully integrated."

"Everyone's been talking about digital delivery but we're actually doing it," said BEAM.TV's MD, Matt Cooper. "Digital delivery will have a massive impact on the advertising industry providing a flexible and fast end-to-end playout model. Up until now we've been entrenched in an antiquated system with limited playout windows – it's totally at odds with the technology that's available. I'm excited that BEAM.TV is at the forefront of such a change."

With IMD's track record as setting the industry standard in radio commercial delivery, the two companies are working on extending BEAM.TV's archive to cover radio storage. This is part of a larger BEAM.TV project to transform its archive into a cross-media storage and management facility covering TV, radio and print assets.

yep, does appear to be going in the wrong direction, though i have had this happen before with other companies prior to results that have on results day been ok. However its not very comforting to see just prior to results.

Nevada City , Calif. , August 24, 2004 – Telestream, the leading provider of digital media access solutions for the broadcast and entertainment industry, today announced that London-based IMD has deployed Telestream FlipFactory and ClipMail products as key elements in a digital video delivery service being offered to UK broadcasters. Building on its history as the dominant delivery service for music and advertising to UK radio stations, IMD has undertaken an extensive development program to ensure that Telestream integrates fully with broadcasters, and now provides broadcast-quality delivery of TV commercials and music videos to television stations in the UK and Ireland over its private IP network infrastructure.

The IMD video delivery service replaces the costly, manual dubbing and delivery of videotape with a more efficient digital distribution solution. Material arrives from the post production houses either on a master tape or as a file transfer direct to IMD. From this, the ingest process creates a 50-iframe digital master which is stored on an Omneon video server. Two Telestream FlipFactory servers automatically flip to the Telestream Clipmail header or the target format specific to each broadcaster's playout server. IMD then distributes the material over its VPN to dedicated servers located at the broadcaster's premises. The files are then presented to a Telestream ClipMail Pro via the remote folder option, where they are cued up and transferred to the playout server. This process can be controlled manually with an edit controller or by an automation system.

"ClipMail Pro has been instrumental in the successful deployment of our new video delivery service," said John Bolton, Technical Director at IMD. "The latest ClipMail version 5.0 software, with enhanced playback control, enables broadcasters to control the ClipMail just like a VTR, so minimal procedural changes are needed to take advantage of a digital file-based delivery service."

The new digital delivery service provides a number of advantages for IMD, its clients and the broadcasters. For music companies, videos are distributed at a lower cost, with increased security and less risk of unauthorized copying. For ad agencies, commercial distribution costs are lowered, compared to traditional videotape methods. For the broadcaster, content is received more quickly, in a format that is ready for playout – without the need to change any operational procedures.

"We are delighted that IMD has selected Telestream's automated media encoding and delivery products as key elements enabling the successful launch of their new digital video service," said David Heppe , senior vice president of sales and marketing at Telestream.

The IMD receive servers and ClipMail Pro systems have already been deployed and installed at more than 10 UK broadcast facilities, and IMD also offers a parallel service in Ireland. The technology can easily be deployed to other countries as well. Early IMD adopters include MTV, LNN, GMTV, LPC, CNBC and Inmedia.

A. No.

Didn't push for more info.

I suspect there would be investment required by the cinemas for projection equipment for a digital advert.

Well captain, you know I've always looked upon you as the elder statesman of the IMD thread. However, as the younger, better looking statesman, I'm always happy to give my opinion:

My opinion is it's hard to say.

As you know, I had hoped for a bit of movement before now – hence the sweepstakes.

I think we have to say, that the shares are most likely to move, when IMD start diverting the revenue stream to us shareholders – rather than investing it in new technology rollout.

In the long run, it makes no difference, as we either get a nice income stream now – or a bigger one later. You know that once that happens, the shares will show their value.

To be honest, I don't really watch IMD as often as I should. But when the BT & Post Office pension funds bought in, I was pretty sure that I was onto a good thing.

I've yet to sell one single IMD share, and I'm pretty relaxed about letting them ride.

Can't really say it's been an exciting ride, but there we have it.

If IMD stay in our market, and the investment stops with the TV adverts, then maybe there will be an income stream driven price-rise soon(ish).

However, if the Irish office is just the start of a European expansion, then I'm not sure. We would end up part owning a company with a small market cap, but with huge sales funding expansion. Normally that would mean a predator, but the majority of IMD shares seem to be tightly held – mine certainly are.

Digital radio & digital TV all have the potential to make large sums of money for IMD. Sadly I have no idea how much. Even worse, I don't think the analysts do either – because there is no competitor to compare to. There is motorcycle courier by tape, and one way insecure distribution by satellite, with none of the value added feedback / scheduling / software support that is provided by IMD's private digital network.

I've told you before that at some point I will sell half my holding and let the rest run forever. I have no specific target figure in mind, but it certainly won't be anytime soon.

You read fingers' technical analysis no doubt (which I gratefully copied here).

Myself I prefer the story behind the company. I think it's a good story, with a happy ending for the shareholders...

Nothing I haven't said before vnp, but sometimes it's good to recap on why you're a shareholder.

What do I see as the next event that will cause IMD to rise? A descent forward-looking trading statement beginning of September with half-year results.

Do I have a price target? No I haven't set a target. Just think when they get TV adverts well established they would move longer programming using the same method; it can keep going on and on. Once you start seeing the TV revenues coming in 2 years time you see a share price of at least £2.00. You have a least 2 to 300 hundred-satellite channels all taking adverts, how about them all taking their dramas and documentaries the same way. So I told you what I think what is your view.
