03/12/2001 09:06 | A snippet about IMIweb: '...One of the more poignant reasons I mention this is that I recently had a similar situation (failed trade with "technical difficulties" on web site) with another broker (Imiweb). As you know Imiweb work much like TD Wasterhouse in that they offer a quote which you have 15 seconds to accept. I recently opened an account with them and shortly afterwards (last week) tried to place two trades, for different stocks. In both cases I accepted the quote well within the 15 secons, and indeed before the price had changed, (though it did change shortly afterwards). in both cases the trade did not go through. I contacted their customer services an was told that "the Market Makers had refused to comply". I pointed out my acceptance of their quotes within the alloted time, but still they refused to honour their quotes or even check the transmission logs. Thje moral of the story is clear. Shwab are more expensive (£18 vs £10 comission per trade), but as matters stand, at current prices, Imiweb`s refusal to honour their own rules has cost me the equivalent of the differential of around 50 trades. 03/12/2001 08:49 | Hi John. Have you tried to get onto IMI through AOL? I was able to open the homepage but unable to log in to the encrypted section, both on my computer and my daughters, both having AOL installed. AOL admitted to me on the phone yesterday that they restrict access to some sites for security reasons..and they thought that this was one of them, although why they would prevent access to this site I do not know. Anybody else have this problem? cheers Al. | alburrows
02/12/2001 23:38 | I have just joined IMIWEB. I also recently joined AOL so I hope there are no problems because I already changed from Virgin net to AOL. I found Virgin Net to be useless. | johndee
02/12/2001 23:33 | Well P-O I have sorted out the problem ref. not getting logged onto IMIWEB, and found out that it was AOL's fault. Apparently it's not listed on their servers (or something) and they will not let me access the encrypted part of the site. Just why I still cannot fathom. So I am now inn the process of changing my main ISP. Shame on you AOL. Have tested logging in through my other ISP's though and can log in perfectly. Had been contacted by IMI's technical dept. to help with the problem and was very impressed with their helpfulness and prompt service. Cheers Mr. Sheath. Haven't made any dealings with them but will be transfering some of my other stocks into my new IMI account very soon. So far I cannot fault them. Cheers Al. | alburrows
29/11/2001 17:10 | Thanks for the info - All To Graham205: They failed to register a buy for KCOM @ 1.09 the other day and I was told the site 'might have been down' anyway after the price went up I complained and complained and eventually got them to register the buy @ 1.09. | pessimistic-optimist
29/11/2001 12:23 | Hi P-O have just applied to join IMI a few days ago. Filled in the forms online and then signed the direct debit confirmation which I posted back to them 2 days ago, received an e-mail today to confirm that my account is now set up. So far they have been very prompt and efficient. The down side is that I am unable to log onto the website. Shall be ringing them tomorrow to sort it out. The dealing rates are cheap but as I cannot get onto the site yet I cannot say what their dealing structure is like yet. I currently use the Halifax but have found their costs to be a bit dear and sometimes the site is unworkable. So was really wanting a second dealing account for a back up, to start with anyway. Shall keep you posted if I get anywhere. Al. | alburrows

28/11/2001 19:21 | I've used Barclays for the past 2 years but now they are going to charge £17:50 flat rate and pay zero interest under £1000, so I'm looking for a new dealer. IMI looks interesting, has anyone experience of their service? | pessimistic-optimist
13/10/2001 14:12 | Thanks for the comment gdjs. As no one responded I thought best to pass on this one. I have opened and account with them, although I am a bit wary about putting my money in a company I'm not sure about - so I also opened an account with DLJ. Since I started trading with DLJ I have no complaints. Regards Lex. | luthor

28/4/2000 23:08 | But what do you think, Martini...or is it just too "old economy" for this BB? Some of us oldtimers have to consider that the "pot" we now have is all we are ever going to have, and therefore need to err on the side of caution. hawkeye | hawkeye
