There's hundreds of shares I don't want to buy - but I don't waste my time posting vacuous drivel about them. Why do you morons even bother?.

Certainly wouldn't buy here. I agree a profit warning is coming.

There again, how can the market get it so wrong...

But it just does, time and again.

Light hearted banter Woodhawk nothing more :-)

Arja, very easy to open. Took all of 2 minutes. Electronic ID was accepted but as I already had UK accounts I didn't have to provide any ID.

american idiot - interesting but i assumed it was not that easy to open an aussie based
account unless a citizen or resident there . maybe it has changed but I remember a
problem years ago when moving between oZ and UK .

I'm having a great time. You should try reading some of your 'friend' American Idiot's posts, btw. The one about his dog and another poster's wife was particularly juvenile - rather like you.

Well, 50% of IG's clientele are classed as professional, so they must be either better endowed, 'stupid enough' or - perhaps - clever enough to make the grade. Unlike you.

Woodhawk,

Good enough or stupid enough ?

I would imagine the majority of small investor would fail on point 2 of IG's criteria.

Investment portfolio: You are required to have a ‘financial instrument portfolio’ (defined as cash deposits and financial instruments) of €500,000 or more. Acceptable instruments include cash, stock portfolios, stocks and shares ISAs, trading accounts, mutual funds, and SIPPs. Managed company pensions, non-tradeable assets, property, luxury cars, or physical gold are not acceptable.

................

I have far more than 500k Euro in overall assets but unfortunately I am not stupid enough to have that amount in cash deposits or financial instruments.

I have my assets tied up in property so I get some kind of return on investment. This of course doesn't count.

Arja,

I opened an Aussie account. Not because of margin cover as I've always had more than enough funds in my account(s) to cover positions but more to have my commission rates back to what they have been for many many years.

I was offered a higher rate of commission than I'm used to. After a little research I discovered I would be paying the same commission rate as a new Aussie customer who has just walked in through the door. So much for loyalty eh ?

Shame you're not good enough to be classed as a 'professional' then, isn't it arja! Did you fail the test?

I have a feeling there will be a furthur profit warning here at some point in the future.

When ESMA came into force my commission rate was doubled through no fault of my own.

After being a customer for nearly 15 years I find myself very unhappy now - Incredibly unhappy even.

My trade volumes have virtually ground to a halt now meaning I make no profit and IG make no profit from me. A lose lose situation.

So now, as well as IG losing all the few thousand pound speculators / gamblers they will also be losing the ultra loyal long-term customers like myself who have provided IG with good solid income through the years.

I await the next profit warning !

and I think dividend was barely coverd by earnings and it seems unlikley the dividend will not be cut . In any event, It will not hold up the share price by itself .

Cwa1 - I suppose that helps but I was thinking about how much profitability will suffer as a lot of clients will cease trading with the now very big margins .

Excellent, another board dominated by Brexit chatter. Just what we need.....

I notice that the current dividend forecast for YE 2019 is for 43.16p, giving a formidable yield of about 7.25%. That's either going to be cut or it is too cheap IMO.

And, to get back on to the Brexit topic they said this in their recent update:-

The Group has continued to make progress with its strategic initiatives. The Group's German subsidiary has received a licence in principle, subject to standard conditions, from BaFin to offer financial services to EU clients. This provides certainty that IG will continue to be able to offer its regulated financial products in all EU member states following the UK's planned exit.

Arja - I know that she did a lot of damage as Home Secretary. particularly to UK universities.

Foreign student numbers have hardly risen in the UK since 2010. In the US they are +40%. This is mainly due to May's utterly doctrinaire immigration policies as Home Sec..

galeforce,
actually I despise TM for different reasons from you .
It was because of what happened to an old friend of mine who was the victim of TM as Home secretary when she brought in regulations ( obstacles ) to people having the
audicity to fall in love with a none EU person . She is a mean spirited woman lacking any sense of compassion or empathy as are most Tory MPs such as Peter BONEHEAD as I call him. ( smile ) . I am ashamed to say I was a Tory until 8 years ago - incredible when I look back as I now detest most of them . ( wry smile )

Stoxx - whehey, let's crash out, let's make millions of people unemployed!

How crazy you hard brexiteers are. Surely it's completely obvious at this point that for the UK a no-deal Brexit is economic suicide.

We can either eat some humble with the EU and accept the deal they are offering us, or we can move to to the Norway/Switzerland situation and join EFTA.

The latter is a lot more sensible, IMO.
