No, it can work in different situations. 'Solid companies'? What on earth are they? You're talking in cliches. If there were ANY sure things, we'd all be on them, wouldn't we? Anyway I think we've exhausted this topic - we all have our own theories and strategies and no one is always 'right' or 'wrong'. I enjoy what I do and I make a hell of a lot more than I ever have in any other 'investment' environment. So I'll keep on doing what I do.

I think the only time I would average down iks if I was accumulating intra-day but I guess it might work with a solid company which you are confident about.
You are correct that my short is too late but I only noticed this stock some days ago . I closed out or almost in the day because I am shorting late in the day . As we said , there is more than one way to make a bit . good luck with it .

Of course it could go lower. I prefer a 'risky' strategy as I find it usually reaps better rewards. Maybe I'll call it wrong, but as I get 90% of my calls right, I don't think I'll be losing any sleep. I'm currently holding 15 stocks and this holding is one of the smallest (so far). I'm always prepared to average down if necessary. And there's the divi in case I have to wait a while. As for 'charts' - I don't give a monkey's, I have other indicators which I prefer. Your short looks far riskier to me - you've left it far too late, imo.

surely that is a risky strategy as "catching a falling knife" comes to mind .
I shorted it today and I rarely short a stock but needed watching closely as it can
turn quickly ! ( smile ). chartwise it looks bad and could go lower in view of dramatic change in fundamentals .

My major interest here isn't the dividend per se, in this instance I'm more interested in capital gains. The divi is a welcome bonus(even if it were to be reduced temporarily). I don't have a large investment here - I'm just speculating having made good money in IG in the past (like after the last fall of this magnitude). As far as divis are concerned I'm more likely to buy LGEN which has an excellent divi record, currently paying circa 6.5% and growing - but it is not a good stock for cap gains. You pays your money and takes your choice - and I have.

thanks. I am new to following this stock but notice you refer to the dividend . But surely the divi is not well covered ny earnings according to ADVFN . With profit likely to fall , is the divi at risk do you think ?

That's quite right, arja. I'm a contrarian by nature, so I enjoy making money mostly by finding oversold shares with good fundamentals and paying above average dividends. I always endeavour to be more disciplined - and as long as you win more than you lose, then it's all to the good. Good luck.

woodHAWK-if it works for you that is all that matters and of course many ways to mkae money on markets IF one has good discipline . I lose D at times when I stray from OAAT !

Fizzy and i have been making some great profits in situations like these, arja. Of course, you can't get them all right, but 9 out of 10 ain't a bad average! Which is why we keep doing it.

any intra day rally is sold into it seems . Shows how charts are not an exact science and I get different picture from chart than you do fizzypop . IG would not allow a short sadly (wonder why !) .

Woody that daily share price chart certainly looks like a miniature double bottom forming. Saw the same on IDEAgen recently at 142p then took off and now 163.50p. Those RSI+MOM charts look compelling. Watching closely.

Yes, it's really, really terrible. I hate myself for buying at such low prices ;-)

BTW look at the Momentum and RSI charts for the last time they were this low. Look what happened next. Big gains ahead for the brave.
