Well done all. Just ignore the two smelly’s - they have not been educated well apparently as their backward countries doesnot have a proper infrastructure. Sad but at least they have escaped on boats to come here.

Just filter them. GL all

NY vs London is holistic. Every advantage contributes to a deeper capital market, which in turn attracts companies. Paying a quarterly dividend significantly reduces churn from dividend chasing, and the steep dislocations before and after a dividend. London listed companies make it worse with a 2/3 to 1/3 split, which makes the equity attractive for about 3 months. It is difficult to think of a worse design, though some Scandinavian companies manage this with a single large dividend per year.

Agreed, as purely an income investor quarterly divi clearly better than half yearly, though I'm not overly bothered about this so it doesn't influence my share selection choices. Can't see that it has anything to do with UK shares vs. US, I think it's of very little relevance as there are far more important considerations when choosing shares than divi frequency.

Personally I would prefer the quarterly dividend route - it's just one reason why US companies are more attractive than most UK listed ones and why the London Stock Exchange is slowly dying.

...or put more emphasis on buybacks...

As an income investor I hope not. Although they are popular, buybacks are a ripoff because they do not treat all shareholders equally. I get no benefit whatsoever from buybacks, money that should belong to me as a dividend. Divis treat all shareholders equally. But money "returned to shareholders" in buybacks, to quote the typical justification from companies, is certainly never returned to this shareholder.

With apparent market volatility IG, and all other trading type companies, will benefit greatly. It is a fantastic hedge against the market trading sideways or down as had been demonstrated time and time again. Unfortunately the large dividend payout really distorts the share price. They should move to an even quarterly payout, or put more emphasis on buybacks. Or indeed invest more.

I think it is probably the same person doing both posts. It is essentially an attempt to derail the thread and avoid any sensible discussion, thereby driving away potential purchasers. I assume they are short.
