Diary,

Buybacks are for a short term rise ?

You've misunderstood what they are used for by the likes of BP, Shell, Chevron.

If its short term rise you want, you go for dividend hikes - not buybacks.

That's good.

I urge all shareholders here to contact or message the company (Lets face it, they not doing much in the UK with all Ops are in Canada) and make clear to them Returns over trying to increase production like they have this year (33% increase as we close the year out). It would be better if we start cleaning up the freefloat and watch EPS improve and the Div yield improve by default before a dividend increase is considered.

All they need to do is increase production by 10-15% and that will hold, or even grow production a little. Quite happy to go with that.

The oil price cap on Russia starts 5th Dec, oil will price will take off, so will oil companies.https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/07/19/price-cap-on-russian-oil-could-push-oil-to-140-think-tank-iags.html

They need to prioritise Returns (Divi and Buybacks) over Capex in the 2023 budget. In my opinion, they just need to hold/slightly improve production from 24-26/27k BUT remove a good chunk of the free float - that will instantly improve the yield and maintain reasonable growth.

The effect of buybacks at these lowly prices will be immense for EPS as production grows.

RA, good article from the FT, shows how ridiculous the current oil price reductions are with the disruption due to come to the market in the coming weeks. Maybe the market believes the EU will not follow through with the oil price cap or believe it will be ineffectual.

Current dividend has not compensated for the fall in share price & subsequent capital erosion over the last few weeks but would happily buy more at this price if I wasn't already maxed out here.

FF it may be, but I'm named after fine porcelain, but your intellectual level wouldn't know that.

P.S filtered, you only started on 26th, your posts say it all.

Appreciate the feedback, tonyn. I have a large holding here and as always it's never a bad thing to openly discuss what could go wrong scenarios.

Divmad,

imo - not likely. The’re generating bucket loads of cash and the increased year end production should offset to some degree (not all) the lower POO. The key is what they set their 2023 Capex at - I would expect them To trim significantly from 2022 which would also allow them to increase the base dividend and perhaps pay out a bonus dividend or buy back shares. I would bet my house on it. I ran my spreadsheet at WTI $75 and they have plenty of FCF to do the above.

Is there any danger of the current dividend rate being cut? How else to explain this weakness in a share that is already trading at half the level of its CDN peer group.

Abbot, think someone knew this but posted anyway just to unnerve a few holders. A person posting his/her first post wouldn't post something like that in my view.

Yes RA...It seems you even have to do research on the posters as well as the company. Thanks for the heads up.
