Hi traderabc. I also considered AFS for a while, but read an article which hinted that something wasn't quite right with the company so have left it alone.

STT have a booming water butt selling division, but I think the price is at best fair now, so probably too late.

Other than that I'm at a loss to suggest anything other than HYD! HYD should, given the comments on the H1/H2 trading split, imo produce at least around 9.5p EPS for 2006, so we'll soon be looking forward to 2007 figures which would have to be heavily upgraded if that's the case.

And sooner or later I'm sure HYD will be taken over.

traderabc,
I bought some AFS a short while ago but sold out at a loss. After a steep fall I discovered the reason was that Panmure Gordon had downgraded their profit estimate significantly. Of course it still rated them as a buy but then they are the house broker and they would. I am trying to be stricter with my stoplosses and I sold out. It may just be a buying oportunity, what do I know?!

Appologies for being off-topic.

cheers
J
PS there's a French company with big contracts to supply bottled water in China but I can't think of the name right now. Have meant to look at that but never got round to it.

Does anyone here hold stocks in other firms opperating in this area? I look at AFS as a possible buy presently, the chart is on some sort of support,it's profitable but opperating in a 'hot spot'of the World, in both meanings of the term. It's also a small cap, which aren't exactly flavour of the month now.
The big US players (Watts,Aqua America etc)are on high multiples, anyone see some better value plays out there?

And terrific BBC news coverage in the press and on the TV today of the need, for example, for new desalination plants and re-use of sewage water....all good stuff:

Nice 14k buy at the full 138p offer.

More publicity about the increased risks of flood damage in the papers recently - here's an article from the Times last week for example. The tide is turning for HYD (geddit...):

HYD's Irish subsidiary have added a couple of older but new news items to their web site. The prize awards must be a bit of a coup:

"HRD Technologies Ltd launch StormBank™ Rainwater Harvesting System
04-Feb-2006

As the leading Irish specialist in sustainable stormwater control and integrated water management, HRD Technologies LTD is introducing its own rainwater harvesting system.

StormBank™ complements HRD's market leading stormwater management system. Available in configurations to suit any size of domestic and commercial applications, StormBank™ offers a long life, low maintenance solution.
Advantages of the system include a potential saving of 50% of treated mains water, rapid installation with no need for expensive concrete backfilling and the option of vehicle loading upgrade, allowing installation in driveways."

And:

"HRD Technologies LTD were awarded two "Product of the Show Awards" - Best Exterior Product and Best Innovation for StormBloc® Stormwater Infiltration / Storage System at Plan Expo, held at the RDS, Dublin.

The coveted "Product of the Show Awards" awarded entries in seven categories, covering everything from best exterior building product to interior building product and best innovation to best sustainable product and were presented by CIF President Mr Nobby O'Reilly."

Big supplement in the FT today on Sustainable Business, with a feature article on water, with mentions amongst others from memory of the growing need for desalination equipment around the world (particularly Australia), porous anti-flood/storm buiding techniques etc for housing developments - various of which are of course HYD's speciality.

:o))

What do chartists reckon here? Looks like if we get another 1p for a breakout then it's blue sky all the way up to 175p (if charts mean anything at all in stocks like HYD).

ho.... :o))

Looks to me like all three small-ish trades today were buys, perhaps brought on by yesterday's news. Imagine the price surge if there's any decent demand on another contract win or a trading update....

Yep. Just has to be taken up by the big housebuilders etc now...

Came across a summary of some of HYD's products and projects here which might be useful in an explanatory sense to newbies:

EDIT - interesting 70k X trade today?

Here's the link to HYD's Stormbank rainwater harvesting system on the new site:

The FAQ's mention that the system costs between £2.5k and £4k. Not as much as I thought, and certainly cheap enough for a load of well-to-do homeowners to bring about their own private and free water supply I'd have thought.

Now this is a nice move by HYD - probably would have made more headlines in the summer, but it's the ideal angle for HYD, who just happen to have a Rainwater Harvesting system available for all households....

"News Release

'Save The Rain™' Campaigns for widespread usage of rainwater harvesting in the UK (2 October 2006)

A MAJOR new campaign to make water saving 'second nature' in every UK household and protect Britain's dwindling water resources is being launched under the banner "Save the Rain™".

The campaign's vision is to make Rainwater Harvesting a commonplace option in UK homes - saving precious water resources by capturing millions of gallons of a freely available resource.

Save the Rain aims to engender a greater personal sense of responsibility for water saving measures through an intensive public awareness campaign. The campaign is being launched in association with British Water, and is sponsored by Hydro International, the UK leader in sustainable water management solutions.

'Waterwise welcomes the Save the Rain campaign. Careful and safe use of rainwater can significantly reduce a building's water consumption. With the right legislation and promotion, rainwater reuse can help ensure sustainable resources for the future. Saving water makes good economic sense and has environmental and social benefits too.' says Jacob Tompkins, Director of Waterwise.

Save the Rain is committed to achieving changes in regulations to make Rainwater Harvesting compulsory on all new buildings within three years. Save the Rain will also push for a system of grants to be available for householders to install collection systems.

Through the public awareness campaign, Save the Rain aims to generate growing public support and interest in water saving measures and increase pressure to push rain saving initiatives up the political agenda.

Says Chris Williams, Managing Director of Hydro International: "Hydro has decided to sponsor this campaign because we feel it is time to raise the profile of water saving and the potential of rainwater collection to help manage our water resource challenge which is likely to stay with us for many years to come.

"Water saving is yet to become a matter of personal environmental conscience in the same way as, say, paper and waste recycling, in many homes. If even ten per cent of homes and businesses used Rainwater Harvesting systems there would be a huge decrease in the demand on the UK's water resources. There would also be improvements to the sustainability of urban drainage networks, because these systems would help to hold back rainwater during peak storm events.

"Water availability per person is lower in the UK than for most other comparable European countries and is particularly acute in the South East," says Williams. "The demand for water has been growing by 1% per year for the past 75 years and now every person uses 150L/day on average. 30% of this water is used to flush toilets and a properly installed rainwater collection system could save all this water."

The Save the Rain campaign will provide a central source of information for housebuilders and installers requiring detailed and accurate information about the correct installation of Rainwater Harvesting systems.

For more information or a copy of the Save the Rain booklet visit www.savetherain.info or call 0800 294 0105."

'Nuff said :o)) Come back soon then....

Looks like all 7 trades today were buys - good to see the burst of activity though can't see any short-term catalyst other than the usual fundamentals. A breakout would be a pretty bullish signal.

Slowly and surely moving back up. A breakout above the mid-130p's would presumably be extremely meaningful to a lot of people, though to me HYD is either a buy or a not at the current price. IMO - it's a buy :o))
