I would agree with that. I suspect that at some point in the next 100 years all oil fields will have a negligible value, but whether that point comes in 2028 or 2118 I have no idea.

I think quite a lot of data was gathered because it is a phenomena that Israeli scientists had been studying in detail (not much land, not much of it fertile therefore huge amount of research into how to maximise crop growth and dimming was on their radar well before then)

Re global dimming..... plenty of anecdotal evidence about much brighter skies in the air flight shutdown that followed 9/11..... not sure how much scientific data was gathered in what was a very brief period.

Talking about the weather.......the beeb's weekly forecast sees a large high pressure system growing across the UK & much of western Europe this week........might still get the odd low pressure system skirting around the northern edge though......

The climate, like the stock market, is an endlessly complex system which we barely understand. The role of CO2 may well be regarded as similar to the role of cutting interest rates: the more you add/cut, the higher the temperature/stock market goes. But then there are a million other things which also have effects, most small, some significant. One simple example: after the Icelandic volcano flights stopped in a large part of the world for a couple of weeks. As a result the levels of light reaching the earth increased markedly, both making the world hotter and also increasing the growth rates of plants, both of which in turn fed back into the climate system. Global dimming is an established phenomena which has probably reduced global warming, at a cost we barely understand.
The idea that anyone is smart enough to work out such complex systems so they can accurately predict what will happen is hubristic in the extreme. So I think we should treat the climate like we treat the investments we make in the stock market: our first priority should be to preserve our current position and we should not assume that we ever know what will happen next if we make outsize bets.

I do not believe that we can pump out such levels of Co2 that we do at present without
causing problems.

However for environmentalists to claim that the Mini Ice Age was down to depopulation of the America's and the Ice Age was ended by hunter gatherers burning scrub to grow crops, is wrong and gives the nay sayers more credence!

can we stop this conversation. The only people who do not subscribe to the argument that climate change currently has human causes are being willfully blind to the majority of scientific evidence. They are the equivalent of people saying that smoking can't be harmful because their uncle smoked 40 a day and lived to be 100. They are either stupid or mendacious, but not worth arguing with.
As far as HUR is concerned, the conversation is close to irrelevant because I think it highly likely that in the near future there will be ways of burning fossil fuels that make it climate neutral and also because we have barely scratched the surface on the possible uses for hydrocarbons and future generations will be amazed that burning them was the best we could do.

The current build-up of CO2 in the Earths atmosphere is massive and needs to addressed NOW!

This chart in the link below shows past CO2 levels covering about 770,000 years. These values are not disputed, they are fact. They are recorded from Ice cores and more recently from atmospheric observations. The current atmospheric observations correlate with recent absorption by ice, so the recent atmospheric observations are proven not to be an artifact of the monitoring.

Highest level of co2 was 4000ppm and the world still turns, it didn't turn to ash in a runaway reaction.
