Only have a small holding of these so wouldn't mind a slight pull back to buy a few more. Great chart it has to be said.

"Since Howdens opened its first depots in 1995, it has grown sales every year, except for 2009 at the height of the "credit crunch", to reach this landmark of GBP1 billion of sales."

How can you get 50%+ earnings growth over two years and an earnings history this good on a fwd PE of 15-16 ? Mad cheap - and they've said they'll beat too.

All imo/dyor etc

Worth a fiver on this record alone bigbigdave, imo.

2014 tweaked up a tad too.

0920 GMT [Dow Jones]--After a choppy second quarter UBS notes that the UK house-building sector has rebounded strongly, as rate-hike expectations have been pushed further out. The bank sees a potential total sector return on a 12 month view of around 20%, which if correct would bring total outperformance vs FTSEAllshare to 14% YTD. UBS has a buy rating on all 7 stocks it covers in the sector, upgrades target prices on 6, with Berkeley Group (BKG.LN) left unchanged at 2830p, while Persimmon (PSN.LN) is raised by +13% to 1640p, Bovis Homes (BVS.LN) +10% to 1100p and Redrow (RDW.LN) +10% to 370p. gary.stride@wsj.com

HWDN earnings record:

2009: 8.3p
2010: 10.8p
2011: 13.2p
2012: 13.6p
2013: 16.12p

2014 21p forecasts (co says it will beat
2015 23.6p forecast

That's 100% earnings growth over the past 4 years.

Going fward the earnings growth is forecast to pick up speed.

Too cheap when you have 20% compound earnings growth p.a. here and rising imo.

All imo

Yes Thorpematt - and this is what they said at the recent trading update:

"As a result of this, we now expect profit before tax for the year to be above the range of market expectations Note 1. However, it should be noted that the two remaining trading periods together typically account for over 10% of annual revenues."

So there's still a lot of sales to be had before the year is up.

£956m sales last year so sales will be well up.

Gross margins increased in the first half from 61.5% to 63.2%.

The market hasn't fully woken up to these imo - earnings growing at 100% in 4 years and consistent too - a rare beast! :-)

All imo/dyor etc

What I like here the margin. (i guess i have wittered on about it before so I wont bore you too much but) more than anything its an indication of competitive advantage of competitors.

Recently a new depot was opened in my home town and the comment:-

"the future is as exciting and promising as that day in 1995 when the story began" is certainly what I want to hear in a TS.

Chart looks nice too!

Well what a fab statement :-)

And still a month to go to year end.

Sales are going to be bustingly higher than last year imo - their last period (the last 5 weeks) account for 10% of sales :-)

Bring it on.

Howden Joinery Group plc (Howdens)

Howdens' sales hit GBP1 billion

Howdens is pleased to announce that its UK Howden Joinery depots have achieved product sales of GBP1 billion for 2014 to date, with three weeks trading of the financial year still to come. This is the first time that annual product sales in the UK have exceeded GBP1 billion. Since Howdens opened its first depots in 1995, it has grown sales every year, except for 2009 at the height of the "credit crunch", to reach this landmark of GBP1 billion of sales.

Chief Executive Matthew Ingle said "This is a very special day for Howdens. Reaching GBP1 billion of sales within 20 years of opening our first depots is testimony to the drive and enthusiasm of all the people who work at Howdens. Howdens is a unique business model and we have not achieved this landmark by accident. Our strong relationships with our suppliers and the total commitment of our staff - both in Supply and the Depots - ensures that the more than 300,000 building trade professionals who rely on the business receive the best possible service, no call back quality and the best local price day in and day out. Above all, we recognise that kitchens are the centre of our homes, and we take this very seriously.

"There remains much to do. Howdens' future is as exciting and promising as that day in 1995 when the story began. I am very proud to mark this landmark moment in the Howdens' story today."
