Strow,

Unfortunately it feels like that now.

The whole Brexit thing is one thing, but I was hoping Nickel was going to be the saviour...but this may have been pushed back too.

The fundamentals for HZM are sound, but sentiment is not with metals currently.

What we really need for Nickel pushing and stabilizing higher is supply reduction. It does not seem to be happening quick enough. Bloody Indonesia and Philppines are the problem

Yep-there's the big difference-massive massive capex costs

Net direct cash costs of US$4.41/lb for 2016 at Ambatovy they were US 5.74/lb in 2015
At Feasibility Stage: Total construction cost of US $5.3 billion, Total actual project costs are more than US$ 8 billion1 , making Ambatovy the largest-ever foreign investment in the country
In 2016, however, the process plant experienced a number of unrelated reliability issues on equipment in the HPAL plant that resulted in lower nickel production.

Ambatovy is a large-tonnage, long-life nickel and cobalt mining enterprise located in Madagascar. Total project costs are more than US$ 8 billion1 , making Ambatovy the largest-ever foreign investment in the country – and one of the biggest in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean region. Once it reaches full production, it will have the annual capacity to produce 60,000 tonnes of refined nickel.

Look what happened to Sherritt:

Canada-based nickel miner Sherritt (TSX:S) has struck a deal with its partners at the Ambatovy nickel operation in Madagascar, allowing the company to eliminate $1.4 billion in debt.

In a news release, the Toronto-based firm said it will reduce its stake in the joint venture from 40% to 12%, and remain the mine operator. The nickel-cobalt mine and processing facilities are expected to run until 2024.

As prices have been so low, they were not making the money/profit to pay off the loans.

So we need Nickel to 12k come Jan2018 , otherwise funding will be put back until prices are higher. This will then also put back production targets.

The nickel price is based on supply and demand. There is too much supply in warehouses....too much supply being mined today hence prices will remain depressed until the supply side is reduced. Even at the current low price, the stock mountain have grown hence a proper correction will only occur when prices are so low that mines that are loss making are closed. In the short term Indonesia will make the problem worse hopefully creating the scenario where mine closure must be considered.

Our funding options are already difficult at 9K and we need to be at 12K at the end of the year when the FS is completed.

Yep, higher the nickel price better for for next round if funding and at 7k a ton there would be no funding!

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

This was talked about this before I am sure...I may have got this wrong, but I thought JM said a higher nickel price will be better for next round financing

edit

All about Nickel/sector sentiment then for now.

I don't think people are getting that the equity part of the capex is taken into account when the NPV is calculated.
The "payback" time of this into the company will remain the same at $12k/Tonne,so what matters is the Nickel price when mining starts not what it is for the Capex raise

We need the nickel price to fall further to correct the huge stock surplus which just does not come down even though over 50% is mined at a loss. Supply seems to be inelastic at the current prices, hence we need sub 7000 prices for the next 12 months..

Nickel appears to be falling to the previous all lows we had before the recent rises this year

The impact of sentiment on Nickel prices and stocks is what worries me this year now.

Be interesting to see what now happens to the suspended and closed mines

No not short Strow. I have a core holding and would like to add to this.
But it looks like there may be no hurry just yet.

A little disappointed by this turnaround in Nickel though.

It may drive other Nickel producers to close or reduce output..lets see

We might start to see some real structural changes in the industry with all the companies that are permanently losing money going fowards rather than permanently hanging on corrupt politics

Well it's not good news, would be much better if appointed wouldn't it? May well be cheaper buying but would much prefer a higher price right now.

Hmmm.... what to make this shift again.. luckily production not until 2019... things can change again before than.If Lopez loses her role , then Nickel could fall further as more will come online, since the closures/suspensions may be lifted
