We need Nickel to fall another 20-30% to drive uneconomical mines to stop production .The last Nickel fall did not stop producers from scaling back If demand falls then it is natural that surplus will be filling LME houses.I rather Nickel crash now, then to recover next year .I am worried this project could get pushed back or it will be valued lower due to low Nickel prices or demand

I don't think one mine at the end of its life closing would make much difference. Some commentators have said many miners are producing at a loss in the hope the price will eventually rise, if we see some start to mothball mines then the stockpile might fall and prices rise.

May 16 Vale Canada said on Tuesday it would suspend operations at its Birchtree nickel mine in the province of Manitoba on Oct. 1 because of weak nickel prices and declining ore grades as the small, 51-year-old mine nears the end of its life.

The suspension will result in up to 200 job losses and a 6,000 tonne-a-year reduction in nickel from Vale's Manitoba operations, Vale Canada said in a statement.

Brazil's Vale, the world's biggest nickel producer, also operates the Thompson mine, mill, smelter and refinery in Manitoba. It also operates nickel mines elsewhere in Canada, notably in Sudbury in Northern Ontario.

Vale is looking at offsetting the lost production with increased output at the Thompson mine.

"We remain committed to a long-term mining and milling future in Thompson," Mark Scott, vice president of Vale's Manitoba operations said, detailing around $100 million of planned investments in upgrades at the complex.

Nickel prices have fallen nearly 70 percent in the past six years on a supply glut

- Nickel rebounded on Wednesday after steel prices jumped while nickel also received a boost from news that output at a Canadian mine would be suspended.

NICKEL - The prospects of less supply bolstered nickel prices after Vale said it would suspend operations at its Birchtree nickel mine on Oct. 1 because of weak nickel prices and declining ore grades.

Glencore's Ivan Glasenberg is talking up the potential demand for Ni in Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries. . The truth is as usual no one really knows how this is going to pan out. But, I think we may have reached a tipping point, driven as much by city air pollution as by the need to cut CO2 emissions. China's air is truly toxic and in western urban centres awareness of the damage that NOX emissions are doing to children (the latest research shows exposure to NOX restricts the growth of children's lungs, permanently!) is starting to create a demand for change. Add to that that car manufacturers are close to solving the "range anxiety" (350mls per charge) issue and the barriers to the take-up of EVs are starting to fall away. All that is missing is government regulation favouring the change to EV and that is starting to happen as well. And like the change from leaded petrol to unleaded and from petrol to diesel it only takes fairly minor fiscal incentives to bring about a rapid shift in motorists choice of fuel or vehicle. So it's just possible that the boost to Ni demand from EV batteries in the next few years might be substantially greater than is currently predicted.

Nonetheless, nickel demand remains strong in countries including major importer China, regardless of price fluctuations caused by policy changes by producers in Southeast Asia. For 2017, global shortage of the metal is expected to reach 46,700 tons according to the International Nickel Study Group. As the shortage is expected to continue, "imbalance in supply and demand could easily push nickel prices to around $12,000," said a Japanese trading house.

Bahana Securities also forecasts the nickel price to rise to $12,500 this year.

As well as results, SHARES today possibly contributed to the blue but without moving share price I commented the other day at get together in London that SHARES had not given a mention to HZM for some time now. Anyway, today it featured as one of eleven in "DOUBLE YOUR MONEY", stocks picked by analysts to soar over the next year. For this it quotes finncap's target 8p with 236% upside. Raises question of £345m to build mine "won't be impossible as long as the nickel price is in a rising trend and there is positive sentiment towards the mining sector at the time".

Nothing new here but nice to have a mention!

Well thats where im at as well-exactly the right time to do it when the nickel market is bombed out,we are fully funded to end of feasibility and the world mines currently declared nickel reserves are constantly being run down.
If you were Glencore(or any other aquisitor for that matter) looking for a high grade, low operating cost mine with a potential 80 year mine life when would you be thinking about buying it ..........?
