Yes, I gather that at present people are spending their money on experiences rather than acquiring further possessions (possibly because they can't afford to buy a property to house them)but that has been the situation for some time now and doesn't explain a vertical rise of 4% today. Having done a bit of real research, I suggest the reason might be that we are getting near to Jan. 31, the x-d date for the special and final divs. amounting to 8.56p, not a bad overall return in the present climate on my purchase price of 204.83p in Dec. 2017.

Knowing the language used by the customers has nothing to do with knowing the business. Having finally completed the probate, administration and tax return for my late husband's estate (dim as you may think I am)I might now find more time for research into my over-large number of holdings and the market generally and consider what strategic changes might need to be made going forward. It needs more than a bit of research, however, to avoid such fraudulent horrors as Pat.Val (Cake) which happily I have never held. Many seasoned investors and fund managers etc. were taken in by that one.

A spare isn't when you miss everything. A strike is when you knock down all the pins with the first ball. A spare is when you knock some down on the first ball but get the rest with the second.

When you score a strike you add the value of the pins bowled over with the next two ball to the 10 you scored with your strike. When you score a spare you add only the value of the pins knocked down with the next (single) ball.

What I was trying to convey was that a strike gives a big score, a bigger uplift. I'll class that as a fail, then.

No. Although I guess the special dividends and ongoing resilience have tended to keep people happy, plus the retail gloom doesn't seem to have affected people actually enjoying themselves instead of buying stuff. Personally I wouldn't invest in something where I don't know the business and I'm surprised when people do. Hope no offence taken !

Strike is when you knock them all down, spare is when you miss everything.

Many thanks. I can't see any reason why I should be familiar with bowling terminology or do any research into that. Bowling doesn't interest me at all I'm only interested in the finances of the company as an investor (female, aged 82)and hadn't bargained for comments in bowling slang on a financial BB. Asking what was meant by the comments WAS doing research. I wondered if you were hinting at a possible takeover.

Any particular reason for today's vertical rise that you know of?

1. Break for freedom, as in a break upwards in the share price
2. Bowling talk - if you're interested in BOWL, then do some research !

My instinct is wondering whether I should stay invested in a business that generates the title of 'talent director', but it all seems to be doing well and the divi is nice.

'onboarding' - Sell signal
'KPI' - Sell signal - avoids actually talking about real sales and money
'new logo' - if you haven't seen this one, it was introduced by Falanx, instead of 'new customer' !!

I'm still shaking my head about that last one and its been a while since it appeared.

For the moment, I'll just assume 'talent director' is just a bit of corporate nonsense. The sort that you use to move someone out of the job where they were no good (because you can't sack anyone nowadays), to a new job where they can't do any damage.

Well no, chasing prices up in a bad market isn't the best strategy, instinct or not. There will be lots of potential bites at most juicy cherries imo, as at the moment they are all seen as being mouldy.

Even if a deal is announced on Brexit, the actual results of it on business will drag on over quite a while, so apart from a 'relief' jump in the market, I can't imagine the bull market resuming in a hurry.

Time for stock-picking; time for those who actually do decent research to benefit.

LOL. My eyes were attracted by the title and I didn't read the name. Actually, I had the best sleep last night I've had in a long time but nothing to do with share prices or my IRV loss would have kept me awake all night. Anyway, it looks as though my instinct that the share price would be lower today proved correct so just as well I didn't top up y'day as I was initially tempted to do.

Woman by the look of it, although I wouldn't want to be accused of being politically incorrect - it says 'Melanie', but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Anyone who thinks the sale by a talent director is a worry shouldn't really be in the market at all - you'll just never get a good night's sleep.

Well, it wasn't only the ST that was pumping; I saw others as well. However, it doesn't inspire confidence and encourage one to buy or top up if a director sells a large quantity when the share price gets back to what it was a year ago. NO idea what a talent director does but if the share price rapidly drops back again, we'll know the man's certainly got talent. Of course, he could be shorting with his own money.
