Anderson Critique:

Wild West Hero – ELO Semi-dramatic rock ballad, perhaps too similar to the rest of ELO's music? Not bad. 5/10

The Sound Of Silence. S & G An obvious classic, reminds me of Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate once he's met Mrs. Robinson, he's lying in his pool with a beer and the camera looks directly down on him and spirals away as this song kicks in. Ultra-cool, a timeless classic. 9/10

Elizabeth Reed (live version)– Allman Brothers Band Infectious acoustic guitar piece, played with skill and feeling. Has a modern jazz feel, it seems to 'spiral' in a jazz fashion at times. I saved it so it can't be bad. 6.75/10.

Midnight Blue – ELO Sentimental tin-flute ballad backed with soft synthesized beat. The tune is predictable in that IMO there's nothing original here, I can imagine that it could get the lips puckering and the hips swiveling and for this saving grace it gets a 4/10.

Leyla(acoustic) - Eric Clapton An infectious and beautifully played tune from the popular and bearded Armani suite supporter. Just because Leyla is popular and main-stream doesn't make it bad music, and this song is proof of that. Cool. 8/10.

As an ELO-maniac, which track do you mean by "Western Girls" - do you mean "Wild West Hero" - it's certainly a classic......Do you know the album "Out of the Blue", it's stuffed with brilliant songs, the best since Sergeant Pepper/White Album/Abbey Road.

Allman Brothers Band (live at the Fillmore East 1971) "In memory of Elizabeth Reid"!!
Has to be the fillmore version, the studio version is good but has no feeling, the live version its something else 12 minutes of bliss.

Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel

I heard them sing it at Wembley in the 70's 60,000 people went quiet and held lights in the air.

Quite right it is Crazy River not Lazy River, I'm not sure how I could have forgotten that I've only heard it 25,000 times.

'Catch the Blue Train all the way to Kokomo' as RR sings.

Other favourite tracks

El Dorado & Western Girls by ELO also

Midnight Blue by ELO exceptional music for bonking.

Nite nite

Rivers run deep but soon run dry
we need new dreams tonight
Sleep comes like a drug
In God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's country

Next thing you'll be lying like lizard on a window pane...a soap impression of your wife which you ate and donated to the National Trust no doubt!

Prefer "Hey Bulldog" on that particular piece of vynil. Can't understand why that was not released as a double A with "I am the Walrus"..in stead of "Hello-goodbye".

You don't know what its like to listen to your fears

Another classic has to be "Love" on John Lennon's unlabelled solo Plastic Ono Band LP. Simple yet profound-Lennon at his best.

BTW did the Beatles die in the wrong order?
