Interim results next Thursday. The relative weakness of HL shares recently may be due to City nervousness about the EU's proposals to protect private investors making execution-only or non-advised trades. HL have apparently stated that they believe that if the proposals became an eventuality, they 'would have no material impact on our business or our clients'. The consultation process ended on 2nd February, with the EU due to produce its final proposal in the Spring.

Golfball -post 343 "Im amazed that people are buying at 590... this is starting look very expensive at 44 p/e. Even the directors caught the wrong time to sell. Unbelievable how this has creeped up." I bought late last year at just over £5. It has faultered a bit but REFS has the PE at 24ish and a yield of 4% and PEGs of 0.7 and 0.8 for 2011 and 2012. I think these look good value - hence my purchase. Maybe I'm wrong but I bet these will continue to climb (famous last words)

As an original investor I am more than happy with my c 200% increase. goofball25 is correct it has crept up stealthily but then when to sell if at all? Is there something in the offing?

I've been asking the same question as Daveninvest, and enjoying the ride, like robinnicolson, ever since launch in 2007...

If Stephen L had held on a bit he could have bought Liverpool instead of Bristol City.

Good opportunity for another director to sell a third of his shares for close to a million pounds. & price goes up.

Glad to see a fund manager calling HL on their IMV rather dodgy 'Wealth 150': http://www.investmentweek.co.uk/investment-week/news/1790816/hendry-hits-hargreaves-mystifying-axe-150

Always check the rns's if unsure about any share price movement, I wouldn't have thought Hl would ever need to do a placing, they are cash rich, I'm sure the city are pleased there are more shares in circulation as they are very tightly held. The only time I would sell these would be if interest rates go up, when clients might want to take their cash out to get a fixed return at a bank, can't see that happening for a few years :)

Thank you Ian. I think this it's as simple as this. Announcement didn't appear on advfn until after noon.

Quite so. But it was reported (see 326 above)only as a rumour. I'd asked if anyone knew why the shares were down almost 40p at 10 am today.

Who says that this is a placing of new shares?

True. H-L clients (many of whom did very well out of the flotation 3 years ago) would no doubt soak up much of any placing - and they could be informed of it at the press of a button, though non-client shareholders would have reason to feel aggrieved. But I still say: what placing?

A rights issue always costs more to administer than a placing - all those shareholders that need to be communicated with!!

Many thanks. You've clearly got your ear to the ground. Wouldn't have thought, though, that they needed money. And if they did, wouldn't they do a rights issue? But I know nothing.
