02/6/2018 12:29 | mip55, yes that sums up the situation in Connecticut where two other organisations already operate sports betting on racing. The tribes are threatening to withhold tax payments from their slots unless they get get a new sports betting deal in their favour. Good luck with that one. | nod
02/6/2018 12:17 | The problem in Connecticut, I understand, is that two tribes believe that Tribal compacts are going to be infringed by proposed legislation and their threat to withhold revenue from the state until matters are resolved to their satisfaction:From Legal Sports Report....Two Native American gaming tribes threatened to stop slot revenue payments to the state if sports betting is legalized in Connecticut without their blessing.Connecticut receives 25 percent of slot revenue from tribal casinos including Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.... $250 million annually from two of the country's largest Indian casinos.I'm sure it will all be resolved eventually ! | mip55
02/6/2018 11:14 | I understand that the tribes in Connecticut have exclusive rights in the state and therefore the state need their permission before sports betting can be legalized for those other companies that have gambling licenses. | loganair
02/6/2018 11:09 | West Virginia studies sports betting market - The state is already in the process of drafting rules and regulations to legalize sports betting and hope to have a bill that they can put forward in around 30 days. | loganair
02/6/2018 11:07 | The tribes don't have unique legislation in Connecticut. They are one of four with betting licences, including Sportech. It's the states where they have unique licences that are more problematic. | nod
02/6/2018 11:00 | Nod - This is why I'm saying Connecticut is more likely to be 2019 rather than this year because the Tribes in this state have to agree before sports gambling can be fully legalized. | loganair
02/6/2018 10:57 | Logan, every proposed legislation in every State will meet resistance and lobbying. Gambling is big business for operators and big principles for others. The tribes have unique licensing in many states which they don't want to relinquish without a fight. The tribes are already using the same technology suppliers. | nod
02/6/2018 10:57 | GVC 2017 annual report - The Group is already licensed in New Jersey and is in discussions with a number of potential partners in the event online sports betting is permitted in the US. GVC has a presence in Nevada, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. | loganair
02/6/2018 10:41 | Logan, GVC has supplied MGM for over four years. Here's a brief overview:: https://www.prnewswi | nod
02/6/2018 10:39 | Nod - The potential regulation presents a problem for Connecticut Gov. Malloy as it would need an agreement with the tribes, which may end up in a claim over exclusive rights to offer sports gambling. This is why I think 2019 to fully legalize sports gambling is more likely rather than this year. | loganair
02/6/2018 10:32 | A handful of states - Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia - are now ahead of the rest because they began preparing early for the court’s decision, Moody’s said. New Jersey legislative committee is expected to consider a bill on Monday that would charge an 8 percent tax on gross sports wagering revenues at casinos and racetracks, and a 12.5 percent levy on online sports bets. | loganair
02/6/2018 09:56 | Connecticut has already presented Draft legislation of which Sportech is one of four proposed operators. Two tribes, State Lottery and Sportech. | nod
02/6/2018 09:48 | Thanks Logan. I'll look into that. | nod
02/6/2018 09:47 | John/W1, would you clarify your question: "Sportech looks interesting but is it you see? I'm interested in your opinion." | nod
02/6/2018 09:47 | I understand GVC has some form of collaboration with MGM. | loganair
02/6/2018 09:41 | Hi John, I only hold some GVC indirectly through PTEC's holding. Have watched GVC for many years. I was always cautious because of Ken's very aggressive acquisition strategy. It often looked like he was overpaying and the deck of cards may collapse, but so far he has held it together and the share price has soared over the past three years - unlike PTEC, which chose to diversify into fintech with dull results.I am unclear as to how GVC is expected to benefit from the US regulatory change. Ladbrokes only paid around 5m for Stadium so that's obviously not an important player. What else does GVC have in the USA? With Ladbrokes Coral to digest, I don't know that GVC could acquire a big US player. | nod
02/6/2018 09:36 | Nod - I am not suggesting anything other then a small number of people in each state are going to bet, I was just trying to give some idea of how each state stacks up population wise. These are the 6 States that I think will so live with sports betting during this year - Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virgina, Mississippi, Nevada. And the 4 States during 2019 - Iowa, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut. 2020/2021 - New York No time set, however are or have announce plans to legislate - Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Oregon and Montana have laws on the books that permit some form of sports betting and probably could be widened in scope, if lawmakers are so inclined. Florida residents can place wagers via bookies that are not based in their state. I doubt very much Florida will want to lose the tax that their residents will be paying to other states by betting via companies in these states therefore it seems to me likely in the future that Florida will permit bookies to be based in their state. | loganair
02/6/2018 08:54 | Nod, interesting to see you are also a holder here. Sportech looks interesting but is it you see? I'm interested in your opinion. I've held GVC for sometime and have even more as I held LADS and rolled over into the combined entity. w1 | woozle1 |
