@Bumkin, perhaps Muttley thinks it's doing its bit for "Care in the Community" as part of the latest fad "ESG" (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

"No one is interested in around 100m barrels of 1P very heavy oil "

Tell us what 1P means Sarah because we dont use this figure.

The world wide demand and ongoing shortage of heavy oil has already been explained to you endlessly. Sober up FGS.

I have been trading /investing most of my life and have never seen any constraints placed on buying shares by a UK broker or anyone else ( apart from playing around with spreads). Admittedly I dont use IG.

This is not a normal practice IMO.

Talking of poor desperate suckers trying to invent stuff Sarah, only 4 days ago you said:-

"No one is the slightest bit interested in 120m of 1P very heavy oil."

Now you're telling us that we've only got 100m barrels.

So where did that 20m barrels go since Wednesday.

At that rate there'll be none left in 2 weeks.

FDP been in a year , with a billion dollars financing requirement......on approval.......in response the company pays out 315m of it's cash reserves in 2022...over half it's market cap ...not the actions of a company thinking about taking on the next phase FDP independently.......The most obvious incoming takeover EVER.

Just look at all the poor desperate suckers trying to invent anything that will get their fellow suckers excited.

No one is interested in around 100m barrels of 1P very heavy oil when all the risks are taken into consideration. If the field was any good it would have been bought years ago.

It ought to have been obvious years ago to even to the most delusional ramper that the famous Kozel "mull" was total BS and was used to try and generate interest in the company. A CEO that sells a load of shares is never a good sign and when its kept quiet about is a massive red flag that all is far from good. And why is he now doing time in the slammer?

Have any of his BS number of barrels been discovered!! Even more evidence is none of the CPR's have increased Reserves, in fact they've decreased materially. Also the fact that they've had problems with the latest wells and discovered water where they expected to find oil means the Reserves require another decrease imo.

A very cheap merger (the hosts have always wanted consolidation) is the best you suckers can hope for is the word from the City jungle drums.

Happy to help as always.

As I have already stated this is what happened to Robin Hood (USA ) . Their credit was pulled when the Gamestop share price went ballistic.

The full story is on a full documentary in Netflix. Worth watching.

Release the Kraken

For information - I checked my IG account and could buy GKP - up to 32,500 at 20% margin.
I looked on my Spreadex account to see if I could buy there as well and went onto buy another 1,000 - Spreadex margin is 20% for up to 12,000.

I doubt there is any continuing issue in opening positions on GKP.

It's IG broker that has raised margin levels required from IG....I agree you can sell an existing long position, but you can't buy more long .Decreases IG long exposure the aim it appears. It's not IG as such , it is why their broker has (now) needed to increase what it charges them .After all this time Definitely significant .Clients are 99% long at ig.Spreadex who still offer trades in gkp ( albeit much smaller levels allowed) , their clients 100% long gkp.

The only reason for changing the level of margin on spreadbets is that the risk to IG has changed. Since it only applies to longs, then they obviously expect the share price to rise.

IG dealing broker has changed the level of margin they charge IG to a level that makes it too expensive to allow IG to then offer margined bets to their retail clients.Hence they have stopped new leveraged positions..It is very unusual, particularly as for years there have been many many times of far higher volatility, and far more ig clients trading this....Indeed look at past 7 weeks and the mkt is very low volatility and range bound....It is very significant, as it implies some sort of fundamental boundaries have been reached in the underlying market for GKP stock.

"Liquidity" or the availability of shares for sale is usually fairly easily resolved by (a) dropping the share price through Stop Losses ( that brokers can see) and forcing sells, or increasing the price to encourage profit taking. So I am not convinced that is the reason for IG's action.
