23/10/2021 11:23 | PROACTIVE ... Why invest in fossil fuels? Simon Gergel, Portfolio Manager of the Merchants Trust plc (LSE:MRCH), said: “It is important to remember that the energy system remains a critical part of our economy, without which almost everything would cease to function. The world still relies on fossil fuels for over 80% of its energy. The demand for energy is very likely to continue to grow over time as emerging economies develop and industrialise. Although there is going to be a transition away from fossil fuels, the high capital intensity of the energy industry means this is going to take a very long time and require huge investments. “Natural gas, which is considerably less carbon intensive than oil, is likely to remain a key component of the energy mix for decades, especially as coal use for power generation switches over to gas. There has been very little investment in the fossil fuel industry since the oil price crash in 2014 and the industry is now running up against supply constraints which is likely to support prices for the foreseeable future. The stronger prices of recent months are due in part to these supply side issues, although there are some shorter-term factors at play as well. In any case, a supply constrained environment is typically the best one in which to invest in energy companies. Finally, valuations across the sector remain very attractive even after the recent share price moves.” Alasdair McKinnon, manager of the Scottish Investment Trust PLC, said: “The truth is that there are no easy answers and that the use of fossil fuels will remain a very important part of the energy mix for the foreseeable future. Oil and gas companies now recognise their need to aim for a net zero future and are among the largest investors in renewable energy. We believe that a policy of disinvestment will not hasten the move to net zero. We prefer to back companies that have strategies to reduce harmful emissions while importantly delivering strong cash flow to reward shareholders.” | ![]() highlander7

23/10/2021 05:33 | This "green energy policy" is not going to end well for politicians. They have all rushed on to the bandwagon to attract younger voters rather than wait for technology to catch up and solve the issues. Now wait till voters start adding up the cost of this opportunism and younger voters figure out they will be paying for it. In the meantime the rush for new Oil Producing assets is building up a head of steam as Institutions /Investors finally realise what is happening. IMO | ![]() highlander7

22/10/2021 22:02 | basnews ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has welcomed a bipartisan resolution submitted by two US senators to the Congress commemorating Operation Provide Comfort and reiterating the partnership between Erbil and Washington. "I welcome the bipartisan resolution by our friends, Senators Chris Van Hollen and Marco Rubio commemorating Operation Provide Comfort and the strong partnership between Iraqi Kurdistan and the United States," PM Barzani said in a statement. "I also appreciate the seven original cosponsors in the House of Representatives: Mike Waltz, Jim Cooper, Chris Stewart, Jason Crow, Dina Titus, Andy Kim, Don Bacon for their friendship." In addition to highlighting the long-standing relations between the Kurdistan Region and United States and the Kurds' commitment to standing with Washington in opposing extremism and terrorism, the two senators have also stressed the suffering of the Kurds at the hands of the former Iraqi Baath regime at the end of the previous century. "At one point in the early days of the 1991 refugee crisis, the daily death toll of fleeing Iraqi Kurds exceeded 1,000, with victims having no time to gather any possessions or winter protective gear and thus succumbing to exposure, malnutrition, and disease," reads the resolution. "The United States, in response to the unfolding human catastrophe, led what became the largest humanitarian operation of its kind ever, Operation Provide Comfort, delivering humanitarian relief and enforcing a no-fly zone," it added. PM Barzani argued that the humanitarian intervention saved countless lives; "gave us the protection necessary to secure our democracy; and spawned our strong, modern partnership," adding that the Kurdistan Region today is an oasis of stability in a region short on certainty. "Our friendship was forged through common ideals, and I look forward to working with our friends in the administration and Congress to further strength it," he concluded. If resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), the Congress will be committed to the following proposals: (1) commemorates the 30th anniversary of Operation Provide Comfort; (2) recognizes and honors the heroic soldiers, diplomats, political leaders, and coalition partners of the United States who implemented Operation Provide Comfort; (3) recognizes and honors the bravery of the nearly 2,000,000 Iraqi Kurdish women, children, and men who struggled to survive starvation and exposure, welcomed the aid that came, and embraced the opportunity for a new life; (4) encourages Iraqi Kurdish leaders to continue to uphold the values of democracy, human rights, and freedom that have made Iraqi Kurdistan an oasis in a troubled region; and (5) reaffirms— (A) the strong partnership between the United States and the Iraqi Kurds, which exists in complementarity with the United States’ strong partnership with the Government of Iraq; and (B) the enduring respect and support of Congress for Iraqi Kurdish friends of the United States who courageously stand with the United States in shared opposition to extremism and terrorism. | nestoframpers

22/10/2021 21:55 | Oil Prices Could Explode As U.S.’ Largest Storage Hub Nears Empty Posted On : 22 Oct 2021 Published By : Tom Whipple Back in April 2020, the landlocked West Texas Intermediate crude oil price briefly crashed into negative territory – a stunning turn of events that cost traders massive losses – when the spot oil market found itself with an unprecedented glut as there was literally too much oil to be stored, and as such those traders who were assigned delivery would pay others just to take the physical oil off their hands. Well, in just a few weeks we may see the opposite scenario: no physical oil at all in the largest US commercial storage facility, leading to what may be a superspike in the price of oil. In a note predicting the near-term dynamics of the oil market, JPMorgan’s commodity Natasha Kaneva writes that in a world of pervasive nat gas and coal shortages which are forcing the power sector to increasingly turn to oil (boosting demand by 750bkd […] View full article at oilprice.com | nestoframpers |
