07/4/2021 14:03 | KRG Ready to Deliver Its Obligations Under 2021 Federal Budget Law: PM Barzani Basnews English 2021/04/07 - 14:00 BASNEWS.com-English PM Masrour Barzani (K24). PM Masrour Barzani (K24). ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is ready to deliver its obligations under the 2021 Federal Budget Law, and it expects the Federal Government of Iraq to do so as well, said Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. During a press conference on Wednesday, PM Barzani discussed the latest developments in the region, as well as the relations with Baghdad and the continuous threat of terrorism in Iraq. On the recently passed Budget Law of Iraq, the Kurdish leader said it was an achievement for the people of Iraq and Kurdistan Region after the sides managed to overcome multiple obstacles. “This budget was an accommodation — it doesn’t address all the hopes of either party. Our principal win is the continued protection and reinforcement of our constitutional rights,” PM Barzani pointed out, thanking those who helped the passage of the law to secure the financial entitlements of the people of Kurdistan. He noted that the KRG is now working to draft a new KRG Budget Bill and send it to the parliament of Kurdistan. On the worsening COVID-19 situation, the Kurdish premier said the vaccination continues, and the KRG is sparing no efforts to curb the spread, but the people should abide by the protective instructions to help the authorities contain the outbreak. “Vaccines are being administered to our citizens now, and more are on the way. This is a major step forwards. We are intensifying the efforts to curb the rising infection rate which is of serious concern,” PM Barzani said. “But the best way to beat this virus is to abide by our public health measures. The most important thing people can do is follow the guidelines to protect themselves. I ask you personally to wear masks to protect all our citizens.” Asked about the ongoing Strategic Dialogue between the United States and Iraq, PM Barzani said the KRG is part of the talks, and that the outcome could be decisive for Iraq and the region. “The KRG is part of the US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue this week. This is important… We believe that Iraq still faces serious terror threats, including from ISIS, and that the country still needs coalition’s support.” PM Barzani also marked the 30th anniversary of the major Kurdish exodus which made the international community react by adapting the UNSC Resolution 688 and the creation of a no-fly zone in the Kurdistan Region to protect the people from the Baath regime. He thanked the international community and the United Nations, and said their assistance is still needed in Iraq and the wider region. Concerning the reform plan of the KRG, PM Barzani said significant progress has been made with regards to administrational and financial reforms, and that his cabinet is committed to implement its agenda fully and bring about drastic reforms. | beernut | |
