ERBIL - A delegation from the Iraqi government arrived in Washington on Monday night ahead of the second round of the strategic dialogue between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who is leading the delegation, revealed to TRT World media agency that the main aim of the dialogue is to "reshape and reform" the ties between Baghdad and Washington.

Iraqi PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi is expected to travel to the US on August 20 where he will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House.

The talks will begin with a meeting between Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his US counterpart, Mike Pompeo, Ahmed Mullah Talal, a spokesperson for the Iraqi government, told reporters.

(Bloomberg) -- Iraq plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with Chevron Corp. to explore for oil in the country’s southern province of Dhi Qar, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The deal formalizes Chevron’s interest in exploring the eastern and western parts of Nasiriyah, the capital of Dhi Qar, the person said. It would exclude areas of the province that contain oil fields and exploration blocks.
Chevron began talks with OPEC’s second-biggest producer two years ago and resumed meetings with oil ministry officials recently. While any production would likely be years away, the California-based oil major is looking to use this year’s crude price crash to gain access to quality reserves cheaply, while European rivals are focusing on a transition to low-carbon energy sources and Exxon Mobil Corp. is reining in spending.

Chevron spokeswoman Sally Jones declined to comment.
After focusing on U.S. shale for the past three years, Chevron appears to be ramping up activity with the Middle East. Its $5 billion purchase of Noble Energy Inc. last month brings it a massive Israeli gas field, and the company is also increasing production from the partitioned zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The MOU was earlier reported by Dow Jones, which said it could be announced later this week when Iraq’s new prime minister visits Washington.

Shafaq News / A source in the Iraqi Prime Ministry revealed, on Monday, the schedule of Prime Minister's, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, visit to the United States.
The source told Shafaq News agency that the visit's schedule for Tuesday, August 18 will be as follows:
The delegation will arrive at 6 pm Washington time- 1:00 am Baghdad time, the reception ceremony will take place at Andrew Military Base in Washington DC. It is assumed that there will be an official reception ceremony, but it will depend on the weather, as it is expected that it will be windy and rainy.
Wednesday, August 19:
-The second strategic dialogue between the two countries will be held at the headquarters of the US State Department in Washington, in the presence of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein. It is expected that there will be a press conference for the two ministers.
-The Chamber of Commerce meetings will be held at the residence of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, during which he will deliver a speech.
As for the agenda of Thursday, August 20:
- At 6:00 am, a COVID-19 PCR test to be conducted at the hotel for the summit between US President Donald Trump and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, at the White House at 2:00 pm Washington time – 9:00 pm Baghdad time.
The source indicated that during the visit, bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest between Iraq and the United States will be discussed, as well as cooperation in the fields of security, energy, health, economy and investment, in addition to the COVID-19 file.

Shafaq News / The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Baghdad, Faris Issa, revealed, on Monday, the members of Kurdistan Region delegation accompanying the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on his visit to the United States of America.
Issa told Shafaq News that the regional delegation accompanying Al-Kadhimi consists of the head of Kurdistan Region Presidency Office, Fawzi Hariri, the Deputy Minister of Planning of Regional Government Zagros Sawili, and the Director of Coordination and Relationships at the Ministry of Peshmerga, Colonel Hazar Ismail.
He added that the representative of Kurdistan Regional Government to US, Bayan Sami Abdul-Rahman, will join the visiting delegation upon its arrival in Washington.
Al-Kadhimi will leave tomorrow, Tuesday, Baghdad, heading a government delegation from Baghdad and Kurdistan Region to Washington DC, on an official visit, his first since he took office last May.
Al-Kadhimi and his accompanying delegation will meet with US administration officials led by President Donald Trump to discuss political, economic and security relations.
During the visit, the two countries will hold a second round of strategic dialogue, which it is hoped will highlight the relations between the two countries on various levels.
