Shale Euphoria: The Boom and Bust of Sub Prime Oil and Natural Gas
by admin-credo | posted in: Updates | 1
Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first send mad

Introduction

The aim of this article is to show that the shale industry, whether extracting oil or gas, has never been financially sustainable. All around the world it has consistently disappointed profit expectations. Even though it has produced considerable quantities of oil and gas, and enough to influence oil and gas prices, the industry has mostly been unprofitable and has only been able to continue by running up more and more debt. How could this be? It seems paradoxical and defies ordinary economic logic. The answer is to be found in the way that the shale gas sector has been funded. It is part of a bubble economy inflated by monetary policy that has kept down interest rates. This has made investors “hunt for yield”.

Statoil reports unexpected loss on deepening U.S. writedowns
By MIKAEL HOLTER on 2/7/2017

OSLO (Bloomberg) -- Statoil ASA reported an unexpected loss in the fourth-quarter after deepening writedowns on its U.S. shale assets.

The adjusted net loss, which excludes financial and other items, was $40 million in the fourth quarter compared with a profit of $185 million a year earlier, the Stavanger-based company said in a report Tuesday. That missed the average forecast of $618 million of 16 analyst estimates collected by Bloomberg.

“Our result was impacted by the negative result from our international operations due to expensed exploration wells, high maintenance activity and impairment charges,” Eldar Sætre, president and CEO of Statoil ASA, said in a statement. “We delivered strong production and solid operational performance across all segments in the quarter.”

Shale impact might not be for that long as it only takes one environmental disaster and it's over . Vegas already in dire trouble over lack of water .Foolish not to safeguard groundwater imo.

If you're trying a find a drag queen why not answer Phillis' s question?

Which supposed knowledgeable influential connected senior industry source, who you hold in high esteem, reckoned Shale was immaterial? Given it's been a 5 year ramp about hidden buster barrels, what measure of scale are you comparing against you operatic soap moaner?

I find that all you ever subconsciously defend is just how small thus you're endowed.

Phillis, your continued references to a (2 years old?) discussion about shale belies the image that you otherwise try to project of a dry, aloof, & unconcerned insider.

Is it all part of your cunning plan, or are you challenging Oilcan63 for title of Queen Snowflake ?

Who's richer here Bob or Oilman?

After reading 500,000+ posts to get accustomed to the thread, it seems to me both have sustained 99% losses.

Not a lot people can take that kind of hit

Harry Lagman, you omitted the third option on your poll, which is neither of them ;-)

MVP (for those of you clearly not into sport, since that was posted during one of the best Wales v England matches for a good long while) = most valuable player (or in your case, poster), who usually makes the biggest difference between a win and a loss.

It is an indication of a person's all consuming obsession when they think that there are only three people in the world. Bob. Notout. Gibbs.Like a puppet on a string. But I am beginning to feel pity for him. He and his little band of halfwits are increasingly becoming figures of fun. The sort of freaks that children point and laugh at. Very sad.But very funny :-)

Whatever the outcome, let's put these daft squabbles behind us and look forwards!

GKP has a future and I'm sure I'm not the only one who believes it's rosey.
