05/10/2016 16:15 | HEWLÊR-Erbil, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has signed a contract with the British Deloitte company, an international audit firm, to assess revenues generated by the sale of oil from the Kurdistan Region, KRG website reported. The KRG’s spokesman said earlier on Wednesday that Kurdistan government is in talks with international auditing firms to assess revenues generated by the sale of oil from the region,. KRG spokesman Safeen Dizayee said officials selected two firms to audit the region’s natural resources revenues, a government website reported. The Kurdish premier Nechirvan Barzani and his deputy Qubad Talabani have attended the signing ceremony to finalize the contract that would cover energy production and marketing in the audit. “The company will independently audit the process of extraction, marketing and revenues of oil and it will release its reports monthly,” Dizayee added. Deloitte, provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, tax, and related services to select clients. Secretary of the KRG’s Council of Ministers Amanj Rahim told NRT in May that a foreign company would be brought to the Kurdistan Region to audit the government’s revenues following a decision from the cabinet. Iraqi Kurdistan’s Minister of Natural Resources (MNR) Ashti Hawrami routinely accused of corruption by observers, Kurdish officials and Kurdish media. Lawmakers and political figures have previously criticized and accused the KRG of not being transparent with oil exports and revenues. Many Kurdish politicians and observers believe that many of the oil industry projects in Iraqi Kurdistan are conducted in a non-transparent way. Some have even described them as secretive. Members of Kurdistan Parliament have claimed that millions of dollars have gone missing from the region. The region’s Ministry of Natural Resources has rebutted those accusations as unfounded. | roverite12 | |
