The share price is not rising significantly because the control of all oil and gas operations is now under Iraqi control via a Iraqi National Oil Company that is yet to establish itself in Kurdistan, the exact details of how it will function are tbc and the routing of payments will alomost definately be via Iraq - Kurdistan - OICs which if history is any guide will not be a smooth process.

Patience is required to see what the new normal brings, the Kurds have been largely out manouvered it would seem. The talks will continue on the details.

Until clarity is sort our dividends, FDP and any buyout will be very much TBC.

So due to 1980's bureaucracy our elecy prices are linked to Int Nat gas prices ! so we pay 10 times more than what we should be doing. Don't these politicians realise they can act on our behalf ?

Well some of us on here have waited a decade for this. So a few more weeks of uncertainty isnt going to make much difference either way. FWIW I think they are going to do it , albeit with some changes to conditions. I dont think they really have a choice now. The hydrocarbon era is coming to an end.

For those that might have missed it , thanks punter 26 ,:After years of delay and disagreement, an agreement was reached by the "majority" to pass the oil and gas law(baghdadtoday.news: Dec 26 2022 14:08)"Today, Monday, the Kurdistan Democratic Party revealed the existence of a political agreement to pass the oil and gas law with the start of the new legislative term of the House of Representatives. The leader of the party, Wafaa Muhammad Karim, told (Baghdad Today) that "there is a political agreement between all political blocs and parties to pass the oil and gas law because of its importance, with the start of the new legislative term of the House of Representatives."And Karim said, "This law, which will regulate the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil with all the oil and financial files, will be passed by the parliamentary majority. The agreement to pass the law took place between the blocs and parties of the State Administration Coalition."The Oil and Gas Law, which has been awaiting legislation in Parliament since 2005, stipulates that the responsibility for managing the country's oil fields should be entrusted to a national oil company, and it should be supervised by a federal council specialized in this matter. But since 2003, Baghdad and Erbil have been at odds over the issue of managing the region's oil fields.Baghdad says that the region does not authorize real oil export sums and does not hand those sums over to it, while Kurdistan says that exports from the oil fields in its territory must be subject to its management, whether in terms of granting licenses for new exploration, managing existing fields, or controlling production and export. For the destinations he chooses, or contracting for the purchase and development."

Habs I`m with you-- patient caution

This is about power and they haven`t agreed about that since 2005.Will the Kurds hand it to a National Oil Company and if so with what guarantees? I want this like the rest of us but it is asking too much so that even when "agreed" each party will read it differently according to its own preconceived expectations and perceptions. These people do not agree easily on the control of oil revenues or the interpretations of The Constitution.

We must be patient to see the way it unfolds and whether The Kurds actually get what they think they are getting. If Baghdad had offered 17% it might have looked more optimistic but they were not rolling over to woo the Kurds and they want to be in control. After all this time I can`t see the Kurd autonomy being sacrificed so easily.

Nest - "I suspect the very big investors have being on the side-lines waiting for HCL so if the new HCL looks water tight sown up confidence will flood in and fierce buying will ensue. ;o)"

I don't think we're quite there yet so I'll leave the champagne in the fridge for the moment, but yes I agree, the HCL is absolutely key and will be a complete game changer, it would be a fantastic start to the year if they can get it done, the political will seems to be there this time.

Fingers crossed.

"Its extraordinary how over the years everything that gets announced gets "lost in translation".

Like this you mean Sarah, all of it certainly gets lost on you:-

GKP - "We are producing 45,000bpd."

You - "All the wells have failed."

What an idiot.

Its extraordinary how over the years everything that gets announced from Koruptistan gets "lost in translation".

The words are exactly what they've always been, "to pass an oil law".

Do explain highlander7 why you think it will be a "game changer".

Have you seen any/all of the "sticking points" that have prevented an agreement for the past 17 years? There are many.

Do you understand the real reasons why Erbil are so incredibly stubborn?

Go on, try real hard to impress me for once:-)
