Agreed, but it's far more likely the buyback has already been done via proxy , as that tactic was far more value accretive, rather than in mkt.

.
“With continuing strong oil prices and cash flow generation, there may be opportunities to consider further distributions to shareholders and to OPTIMISE the capital structure”
Outlook from Dec 2021.
The capital structure is obviously massively DELEVERAGED.
Too much cash and FCF , too may shares , too little debt.
It’s optimisation can only be effected by concentrating shares in issue , using excess cash/and/or unused but long-standing available extra debt Facilties of $200m.
So it’s either :
Our proxy has bought x amount of shares at a cost to us of y.
We will cancel these.
And/or
We are buying in mkt to the tune of XXX million

Year End.

FDP effectively in place, for a rubber stamp, would not have been submitted after such lengthy discussion otherwise.

How many shares in issue = 213m and change as of record.
A proxy buyback would definitely have been the right tactic - and yes they did gain authority without need for further resolution.

I'd hope they have bought 40m- 75m one way or another. that would be a 20-35% cancellation - which means a 25- 45% increased concentration of profits on sale.

Then?

Its either we already have sold up and its done deal - or lets hope the latter we are up for sale - who wants the most valuable FDP on the planet - start the auction bids.

Quite right, but obvs much better they have been doing buyback by proxy than a publicly known in mkt buyback??They could and should have announced a buyback already , they haven't.They also could and should have used a proxy to buyback for the past 2 years + without telling mkt. They gave themselves authority long since.I expect announcement
