"The last great frontier" LOL. The Genel situation not a good advert for attracting inward investment methinks. Especially when one understands what has gone on before with court cases.

Been warning you for years that the MNR call all the shots and look after themselves. And word has always been that Genel have excellent relation with the hosts. Whereas afaiui this company doesn't.

The 55k a day has been coming for 6 years. I've mentioned several times that its not beyond the realms of possibility that the MNR could view the lack of progress in developing shaiCON as an issue.

Anyways, I note that my 1.4p prediction has arrived:-)

China and Iraq to Increase Cooperation

On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih made a phone call to Chinese President Xi Jinping. In the Phone conversation, President Salih congratulated the Chinese President on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.

According to a statement from the Office of the Iraqi President, the conversation focused on the historical relations between the two countries, and on the need to increase cooperation regarding the economy, trade and industry. Talks also mentioned Chinese companies' role in rebuilding Iraq and their contributions in infrastructure, energy and oil sectors, in the ways that could better serve the interest of both peoples.

" Kurdistan has issued a notice to Genel Energy that it intends to terminate licences on Bina Bawi and Miran.

The London-listed company said it believed the Kurdistan Regional Government had no grounds for this decision. The company said it hoped to continue operations under its production-sharing contracts (PSCs) but would seek compensation if it became necessary.

First, Genel will issue notice of dispute to Kurdistan on each PSC. This will trigger an obligation to hold “good faith negotiations” on resolving the matter quickly and without international arbitration.

The PSCs gave Kurdistan a right to terminate the licences in April and May of 2020, if no new gas lifting agreement had been reached.

In August, in Genel’s half year results, the company said it had found difficulties in negotiating with Kurdistan. It has been working to develop assets, Genel said, with a plan set out in September 2019.......... "

Well I would disagree there chaps, as if you've been reading the RNS's of both companies.
There are plenty of parallels.

GKP over and over FDP extended delays resubmitting of FDP's etc.

On the GENL side you will see plans being submitted to get agreement on gas field's development with delays etc. Delays running into out of time in this case. And slight open frustration expressed in RNS about lack of engagement on MNR side.

We can agree if GKP can't get a FDP they are going just tread water ad-finitum right?!

The KRG would not terminate a PSC ( A Contract) unless they had a valid , legal reason to do so. Otherwise they would be sued.

I notice GENL have not mentioned Legal action - only discussion.

It is possible of course that the MNR have perfectly valid reasons for wanting to withdraw the PSC.

Bina Bawi and Miran are gas fields and developing gas fields is both a lot more complicated and a lot more expensive than developing oil fields.

The exploration and appraisal programme on Bina Bawi was completed seven years ago:-

"Extended well tests on Bina Bawi 4, 5, and 6 wells were completed in 2014, which resulted in substantially lower oil volumes, but a significant increase in sour gas potential."

And seven years later in the GENL results of two weeks ago they are still talking in terms of it being POTENTIALLY valuable, so if they haven't progressed it and started development in seven years they'll be in violation of the PSC:-

"This remains a potentially valuable project to Genel."

I imagine the new minister has just decided that he wants to get a gas company in who can get on with it.

Fortunately we now have our very own gas man in Jon Harris to sort out our gas for us, which is no doubt why he was employed.

What MNR does to other companies in the region no consequence to GKP. But the timing of announcements about what it does is fully a plan to scare GKP'ers out if their shares b4 GKO good news.


Penalties for breach of a PSC ( A Contract) apply to everyone Digby , including GKP. But GKP have not breached the terms of their PSC. Hence my comments.

As for KRG timing ? Ive been around the markets long enough now , to know nothing is improbable when it comes to making money. All you have to do is watch these City Trolls on here and LSE to see that.

The so called "Gas Issue" has been done to death and your comments are scaremongering nonsense. Go back and read my past posts on the subject.
