08/3/2021 13:02 | Yahoo Finance UK Oil prices soar above $70 after attack on Saudi Arabia key facilities Smoke billows above the residential area following airstrikes of the Saudi-led coalition targeting Houthi-held military positions in Sana'a, Yemen. The storage tank that was targeted on Sunday at Ras Tanura in the country’s Gulf coast is the world’s largest crude terminal. Photo: Mohammed Hamoud/Getty Images Oil continued its surge on Monday, jumping to $70 (£51) a barrel after one of Saudi Arabia’s key oil facilities came under a missile and drone attack from hostile forces in Yemen over the weekend. The storage tank that was targeted on Sunday at Ras Tanura in the country’s Gulf coast is the world’s largest crude terminal. It is capable of exporting roughly 6.5 million barrels a day, representing nearly 7% of oil demand. However, output appeared to be unaffected. The Saudi energy ministry confirmed there were no casualties or loss of property from the attacks. Shrapnel from a missile also landed close to a residential compound for employees of Saudi Aramco (2222.SR), the world's largest oil company, in a town close to Ras Tanura. Brent crude (BZ=F), the international benchmark, rose as much as 5% to its highest in 14 months before easing slightly. It has risen around 35% in the year to date. | beernut
08/3/2021 12:13 | Barzani supports Al-Kadhimi’s initiative Iraq News Mustafa Al-Kadhimi Nechirvan Barzani 2021-03-08 11:44 A- A A+ Shafaq News / Kurdistan’s President, Nechirvan Barzani expressed on Monday support for the political initiative announced by the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. “I support the invitation of the Prime Minister, Mr. Al-Kadhimi, to hold a national dialogue among the Iraqi parties and to conduct a real and deep dialogue to reach a final agreement and find solutions to the problems of the Kurdistan Region with the federal Iraqi government in accordance with the constitution." Barzani said in a tweet. On Monday, Al-Kadhimi called on the Iraqi government opponents to engage a "frank and open national dialogue" based on "security, peace, and prosperity" of Iraq. Al-Kadhimi today, "the government is committed to the will of the people to ensure security, peace, reconstruction, and prosperity," calling on the different components to join hands as Pope and Sayyid al-Sistani's joined theirs. The Prime Minister invited "the different political forces, popular and youth actors, as well as the government opponents" to "the dialogue table.” | beernut
08/3/2021 12:12 | Al-Kadhimi calls for a "Radical Agreement" with the Kurdistan Region Iraq News Kurdistan Al-Kadhimi 2021-03-08 10:34 A- A A+ Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, called on Monday for a radical agreement that puts disputes with Kurdistan Region to an end. Al-Kadhimi said in a statement, "I call for a genuine national dialogue to reach a final agreement to the relation between the Central government and Kurdistan Region that maintains the unity of the lands and radically settles the differences." As Iraq seeks to manage its worst fiscal crisis in almost three decades, tensions between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are once again on the rise. Not for the first time, the dispute is over Baghdad’s conditions for the transfer of budget funds to the KRG in Erbil. At its heart, the battle is constitutional. Ever since Saddam Hussein’s regime was ousted in 2003, there has been disagreement over how political power should be shared. On finances, hydrocarbons, defense, and an array of other issues, the two governments have not reached an agreement on the margins of competent authority. The former Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi’s Iraqi caretaker government ordered cut federal budget contributions to the Kurdistan Regional Government, pushing the KRG toward bankruptcy and cutting off the payment of salaries to its civil servants. Abdul Mahdi’s government said the step was taken due to the international oil decline that has hit Iraq hard as well as Erbil’s failure to submit 250,000 barrels of oil per day to Iraq’s State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO) in return for public funding under Iraq’s 2019 budget law. | beernut

08/3/2021 07:34 | Saudi Arabia Doesn’t Care About Surging Oil Prices. How High Will Oil Go? hellenicshippingnews 9 hours ago Crude and Brent oil prices continue surging today after OPEC+ shocked the world by keeping the deep oil production cut in place. This was the most bullish outcome as market players didn’t expect Saudi Arabia to stick to its voluntary production cuts. Saudi Arabia and Russia are the most prominent players controlling the oil narrative. Their decision confirms that they can move oil prices. Brent and Crude prices surged over 4% after the Saudi and Russian-led group left production unchanged. Oil traders strongly believe that oil prices are heading higher now as the OPEC+ cartel is not ready to significantly disrupt the oil supply. | beernut
