GDF Suez:Starts Commercial Operation Of 118 MW Plant In Panama
PrintAlert
Gdf Suez (EU:GSZ)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Thursday 21 February 2013
GDF Suez Thursday said it has started full commercial operation of the last unit of the Dos Mares hydro plant, a 118 MW run-of-the river plant consisting of three power plants (Gualaca, Lorena and Prudencia), in Panama.
MAIN FACTS:
- Two power plants came on line in 2011 and the third one was commissioned recently. Dos Mares is situated in the Chiriqui Province in Panama and represents an investment of approximately $460 million (EUR360 million).
- Following an auction in 2008, GDF Suez sold 100 MW to distribution companies for a period of ten years, from 2013 to 2022. The Dos Mares hydroelectric complex is expected to provide 6,000 GWh for the length of this period. The project will avoid the equivalent of 350,000 tonnes per year of carbon emissions.
- GDF Suez entered the Panamanian market in 2007 through the acquisition of a 51% stake in Bahia Las Minas, Panama's largest thermal generating complex (249 MW). The Group also owns and operates the 83 MW Cátiva thermal plant.

i believe the goodwill and intangibles have been misclassied
and are much too high, so conclude that this share is substantially undervalued

Will look again at months end

the tangible book value is about 7 euros

so one has to decide what goodwill and intangibles
could be added back in to get a fair value

lets say a fair value is at least 17 euros

will get a better idea at months end

EDIT I MUST TO LOOK AT HOW LONG THE
GOODWILL AND INTANGIBLES WILL TAKE TO WRITE OFF

At 27 euros per share, is the book value almost double the
current share price?

goodwill and intangibles seems to explain a substantial
part of the difference

i believe this share is undervalued at current price

Tractebel 4th-Quarter Profit Drops as Dry Weather Boosts Power Prices
PrintAlert
Gdf Suez (EU:GSZ)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Friday 8 February 2013
SAO PAULO--Tractebel Energia (TBLE3.BR), the Brazilian subsidiary of GDF Suez (GSZ.FR), reported Thursday a drop in fourth-quarter net profit due in part to higher electricity prices as more thermoelectric plants were needed in Brazil to make up for falling hydroelectic generation.
Net revenue climbed 16% to 1.27 billion Brazilian reais ($644 million), but profit dropped 3.6% to BRL433 million, Tractebel said in a regulatory filing.
Brazil's rainy season, which usually starts in the fourth quarter, started out drier than usual, leading to a drop in reservoir levels at hydroelectric dams. Because the country relies overwhelmingly on hydropower--about 85% of electricity is generated via dams--the lower reservoir levels required the firing of thermoelectric plants, which produce energy at much higher costs.
Tractebel is not much different, with about 85% of its installed capacity coming from hydoelectric sources. In order to supply all its customers with power, Tractebel had to buy more expensive energy from other generators on the open market, where prices were rising due to the abnormally dry weather.
Tractebel ended up paying a net BRL11.1 million for the energy, whereas in the year-earlier quarter it gained a net BRL47.4 million from selling energy, according to the filing.
For the year, however, Tractebel profited from buying and selling energy on the market, with a net gain of BRL244.8 million, the company said.
In the fourth quarter, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda, slipped 0.6% to BRL762.1 million, representing a 9.8 percentage point drop in Ebitda margins.

GDF Suez SA, Europe's biggest utility by market value, will develop Africa's largest wind farm in Morocco as the nation seeks to boost power output without adding to emissions.

GDF Suez and local company Nareva Holding plan to complete the 300-megawatt Tarfaya project by the end of 2014, the Paris- based utility said today in a statement. The partners, using a 360 million-euro ($488 million) loan from Moroccan banks and 90 million euros of their own capital, will share development costs equally.

With rising electricity demand and untapped wind resources, Morocco is luring developers including Enel Green Power SpA and Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co. to build clean-energy projects. The North African nation aims to build 2,000 megawatts of wind capacity by 2020 to curb dependence on fossil fuels.

GDF Suez and Nareva have signed a 20-year agreement to sell the power generated at their project in the southern coastal desert to Morocco's Office National de l'Electricite & de l'Eau Potable. "Optimal" wind conditions will give the site a utilization rate of 45 percent, GDF Suez said.

"There's no uncertainty about power prices or volumes," GDF Suez Chief Executive Officer Gerard Mestrallet said today on a conference call. "There's no risk."

GDF Suez Submits Extra Safety Test Plan for Belgian Nuclear Reactors
PrintAlert
Gdf Suez (EU:GSZ)
Intraday Stock Chart
Today : Monday 4 February 2013
BRUSSELS--French energy giant GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) has submitted to the Belgian nuclear safety authorities a plan for extra tests on the two reactors shut last year after micro-cracks were found, the company said in a statement Monday.
Electrabel, GDF's Belgian unit, "submitted its action plan with a detailed planning for approval" by the Federal Agency of Nuclear Control, the company said in a statement. "Electrabel will carry out the tests with the greatest rigor. According to the estimations, these tests would be realized before the end of March," it said.
Two of the seven nuclear reactors in Belgium were closed over the summer after tests carried out with new technology found cracks in the steel of the reactor containment vessels.

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) --Energia Sustentavel do Brasil, a partnership between GDF Suez (GSZ) and subsidiaries of Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (ELET6), received regulator approval to begin operations at its Jirau hydro dam on March 1.

The dam was previously expected to begin operations on Jan. 1, Nelson Hubner, the head of the electricity regulator known as Aneel, said in Brasilia today.

The 3.750 megawatt dam in northern Brazil is expected to begin generating energy in May, when transmission lines connect the dam to the nation's grid. Jirau is expected to be fully operational by June 2015, according to the calendar approved today by Aneel.
