31/10/2012 10:32 | EU Energy Chief: Natural Gas Must Be Priced in Flexible Way PrintAlert Gazprom Neft (QX) (USOTC:GZPFY) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Wednesday 31 October 2012 By Alessandro Torello BRUSSELS--Natural gas should be priced in a flexible way and it is in the industry's own interest to diversify away from the historical link with oil prices, the European Union energy chief said Wednesday. Guenther Oettinger's comments -- made at a conference with Russia's energy minister -- come as EU antitrust authorities investigate OAO Gazprom's (GAZP.RS) practice of linking the price of gas in long-term contracts with that of oil. "It is in the gas industry's own interest to price gas in a flexible way and not just" with an oil link, Oettinger said. 31/10/2012 08:10 | GDF Suez Keeps 2012 Guidance After Ebitda Grows 5.8% PrintAlert Gdf Suez (EU:GSZ) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Wednesday 31 October 2012 By Geraldine Amiel PARIS--GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) Wednesday maintained its full-year objectives in spite of higher taxation and the shutdown of two of its nuclear reactors in Belgium. The company posted a 5.8% increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda, for the first nine months of the year, boosted by the acquisition of International Power and its performance in emerging markets. For 2012, the group said it still expects net profit of between 3.7 billion euros ($4.5 billion) and EUR4.2 billion. It also still plans a dividend in 2012 equal to or higher than its payout in 2011, and forecasts Ebitda will be around EUR17 billion. It paid a dividend of EUR1.5 per share in 2011. Full-year targets have been maintained despite the negative impact of taxation, particularly in France, where taxes are set to dent net income by EUR100 million, and the shutdown of Belgian plants Doel 3 and Tihange 2 until the end of the year, the group said. The company's strong performance over the nine-month period shows its strategy of boosting emerging-markets exposure by acquiring U.K.-based energy group International Power and its major reshuffle of divisions are paying off. GDF Suez remains focused on fast-growing markets, with the ongoing deterioration in some European economies weighing on gas demand. Meanwhile, the U.S. is emerging as a potential exporter of cheap liquefied natural gas supplies extracted from shale rocks. In the first nine months of 2012, Ebitda grew to 12.8 billion euros from EUR12.1 billion in the same period a year earlier while revenue over the nine-month period grew 8.4% to EUR70.92 billion from EUR65.4 billion a year earlier. The group's net debt at Sep. 30 was EUR45.9 billion, up EUR8.3 billion from Dec.31 last year, mostly due to the acquisition of International Power. The group didn't comment about the potential tie-up between its waste and water utility unit Suez Environnement SA (SEV.FR) with arch-rival Veolia Environnement SA (VE), which failed three weeks earlier, according to people familiar with the matter. Both utilities denied two weeks ago that they were still discussing a tie-up. Tuesday, shares in GDF Suez closed at EUR17.71, after having lost 8.6% over the past six months, mostly due to macroeconomic concerns. 31/10/2012 07:36 | Utility GDF Suez revenues up 8.4 percent this year October 31, 2012 RSS Feed Print By SARAH DiLORENZO, Associated Press PARIS (AP) - Franco-Belgian utility GDF Suez reported Wednesday that its revenues were up 8.4 percent this year so far, driven in part by weather conditions in France and a state decision that will allow the company to recoup money lost in a government-mandated freeze on natural gas prices. The company has brought in 70.9 billion ($91.9 billion) in the first nine months of 2012. It didn't break out figures for the third quarter, but that's 20.4 billion more in revenue than GDF Suez reported at the half-year mark, slightly above the average expectation of analysts surveyed by FactSet. Some of the strongest growth came from France, which accounts for just over 35 percent of GDF's revenues. The company credited, in part, a favorable decision on gas prices this summer, when a state body overturned a freeze implemented by the government at the end of 2011. That is allowing GDF Suez to recoup millions of euros from customers. GDF is also benefiting from a return to normal weather in France after an unusually warm early winter last year. In fact, weather has been on GDF's side all 2012, with a late-winter cold snap and a chilly summer. Revenues were up 15.2 percent in the country. The company is also doing well in Asia, where revenue to Sept. 30 is up 18.8 percent, and Australia, where sales skyrocketed 40.3 percent, in part due to price increases. GDF Suez, however, is struggling in its other home market of Belgium, where sales have slipped 5.9 percent over last year. The company said it is losing business customers there. | waldron

25/10/2012 06:28 | Australia Approves GDF Suez, Santos Floating LNG Project PrintAlert Gdf Suez (EU:GSZ) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Thursday 25 October 2012 By Ross Kelly SYDNEY--Australia has approved construction of a multi-billion dollar gas-export plant that will float out at sea planned by a joint venture between GDF Suez SA (GFZ.FR) and Santos Ltd. (STO.AU). Approval for the Bonaparte floating liquefied natural gas project, to be located about 250 kilometers west of Darwin, was approved by Environment Minister Tony Burke subject to 15 strict environmental management conditions. The conditions relate to managing the impact on migratory and threatened species, and the marine environment, Mr. Burke said in a statement. The venture 60%-owned by the French company and 40% by the Australian company is aiming to make a final investment decision in 2014 and ship its first LNG cargos in 2018. It aims to be one of the first ventures in the world to use revolutionary floating LNG technology that can chill natural gas for export out at sea where it lies, rather than having to pipe it back to an onshore processing plant. Royal Dutch Shell PLC. (RDSA) has already made a final investment decision on its Prelude floating LNG project offshore Western Australia, expected to be the world's first active floating LNG project when it ships its first cargos in 2016. 23/10/2012 15:39 | GDF Suez Drills at Touat in Algeria for Biggest E&P Project By Tara Patel on October 22, 2012 "The well was successfully drilled," Jerome Chambin, a spokesman for the company, said by telephone from Paris. GDF Suez has 65 percent of Touat and Sonatrach Group, the Algerian state oil and gas company, the rest. The project will be the Paris-based utility's biggest for exploration and production with investment of 2.3 billion euros ($3 billion). Production at Touat, about 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) southwest of Algiers, depends on the construction by Sonatrach of a pipeline linking the field to its northern network. GDF Suez (GSZ) will build a plant to treat gas before it's transported. Algeria is GDF Suez's third-biggest supplier through long- term contracts after Norway and Russia, providing 12 percent of its total demand, according to the company's 2011 annual report. The utility signed a supply deal last year with Sonatrach for 1 billion cubic meters a year of gas over 20 years through the Medgaz undersea pipeline linking Algeria and Spain. Developing the Touat project has been repeatedly delayed amid discussions about how the natural gas will be transported. GDF Suez, which became a partner a decade ago, expects 40 wells to be drilled in various phases of the project, expected to produce as much as 4.5 billion cubic meters a year at plateau. The company also drilled a well in the eastern Sud-Illizi bloc in July and is evaluating its commercial viability. The utility's proven and probable gas reserves at the end of 2011 were 789 million barrels of oil equivalent of which nearly three quarters was natural gas. These were mostly in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K., the 2011 annual report shows. Touat's proven and probable reserves are estimated at 68.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 8.5 million barrels of condensates, according to data on its website. 22/10/2012 10:58 | Statoil to Make $1.45 Billion on Wintershall Swap Share this article PrintAlert Statoil Asa (NYSE:STO) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Monday 22 October 2012 OSLO--Norwegian oil company Statoil ASA (STO) has agreed a $1.45B deal with Wintershall AG (WSL.YY) to swap production licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf, and also to cooperate to increase oil recovery. As part of the deal, Statoil will leave its 32.7% stake and operatorship of the Brage field to Wintershall. Statoil will also reduce its stake to 15% from 20% in the GDF Suez S.A.- (GSZ.FR) operated Gjoa license and to 30% from 54% in the Statoil-operated Vega license. Statoil will also acquire a 15% stake in the Edvard Grieg license near the giant Johan Sverdrup field on the Utsira High in the North Sea from Wintershall. Wintershall's stake in the field will be 15% after the transaction. Wintershall is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF SE (BASFY). The Lundin Petroleum AB- (LUPE.SK) operated Edvard Grieg field is expected to produce from late 2015, with peak production at about 100,000 barrels per day. Statoil said that by acquiring a stake in the Edvard Grieg license, the company will consolidate its position as the largest player on the Utsira High area in the North Sea, owning part of all the oil fields in the area that have not yet been put into production--Johan Sverdrup, Edvard Grieg, Dagny and Ivar Aasen. "Developing the Utsira High area will be one of the major undertakings for Statoil in decades to come," said Oystein Michelsen, Statoil executive vice president for Development & Production Norway. Statoil said its share of production in the divested assets was 39,000 barrels per day in the first half of 2012. The deal takes effect from Jan. 1, 2013, and is expected to close in the second half of 2013, pending government approval. "This enables Wintershall to become one of the leading producers in Norway," said Rainer Seele, Wintershall's chairman of the board of executive directors. The two companies have also agreed to cooperate on research into increased oil recovery, or IOR, and also on unconventional oil and gas. As part of the deal, Statoil will receive a 49% share of Wintershall's German concessions Rhineland and Ruhr. Write to Kjetil Malkenes Hovland at kjetilmalkenes.hovla | waldron
