That is effectively what I've done. I've bought a third of what I eventually want to hold.

Another option is to split the amount you want to invest into 2 or more segments buy some now and add if it drops to lower targets.If it does not get there and goes up you are still making money if it drops you get to buy cheaper.Subtle but important difference from averaging down a practice I avoid.

FWIW I usually wait for 3 trading days.
But as you say hard sometimes not to bite. The danger is if it does go lower you tend to overpay and you develop the "I'm holding a falling knife" feeing.
