Scomi Energy remains profitable despite global economic slowdown BY ZARINA

ZAKARIAH - 7 SEPTEMBER 2015 @ 1:07 PM KUALA LUMPUR: Scomi Energy Services Bhd, a unit under Scomi Group Bhd, has not been directly impacted by the ringgit depreciation, says its Chief Financial Officer Mukhnizam Mahmud. Mukhnizam said the company has in fact benefited from the lower ringgit as 95 per cent of its operations are done in US dollars. "For us the weakening of ringgit is a plus because most of our revenue is in US dollars, and 95 per cent of our businesses are conducted in that currency as well. "In terms of value to the USD, we gain there (as most currencies around the region weakened against USD) and as long as the US dollars remain strong against the foreign exchange, we are safe. "Our cost is both in USD and local currency and about 30-40 per cent of our operations are done in ringgit. If it is in USD, it is a natural hedge, if it is in local currency it becomes a plus for us," said Mukhnizam after the annual general meeting earlier today. He added the remainder 5 per cent of its business is in Russia, in which they are billed us in Ruble, its local currency. Asked on the year's outlook for Scomi, Mukhnizam said it is expected that the year will not perform better than last year on obvious reasons such as the low crude oil prices and global economic slowdown. "In terms of numbers for 2015, it’s a bit flat for us. I guess challenges in terms of oil price and market not doing as well as we thought it would be but nevertheless we are profitable. "However, we think that with the orderbook of RM1.3 billion we should be kept busy for at least next three years," he said.

What sort of share trading system is acceptable in this day and age if everyone, even those without level 2 or direct market access, cannot determine with a degree of certainty whether a trade is a buy or a sell.

There was a late reported trade shown today on ADVFN after the close which purported to show that earlier today there was an O trade at 15p involving a rather large number of shares.

On further checking this trade was in fact yesterday.

03-Sep-15 12:55: 615,000

The O trade one minute earlier -- is shown as a buy -- the spread being 14.75/15.

I am not concerned whether it was a buy or a sell. The important point is that it was yesterday, not today and we know that the price yesterday closed at 15.88, a rise of some 6%, much of which was in the afternoon.

This morning the offer price opened at 16p. where it remained until the big market sell off began, mid morning.

Given the beneficial impact of the fall in the MYR v the USD, I thought I would have a look at the biofuel fuel situation in Malaysia and Europe.

In Malaysia GRPH sells biofuel to a number of majors, including Shell. This link is the Shell Malaysia contract.

In Europe it sells (priced in USD) too.

US$45million contract renewal with Tier-1 Global Oil and Gas Company

Graphene NanoChem (AIM: GRPH), the nanochemicals, performance chemicals and advanced materials company, is pleased to announce that Platinum NanoChem Sdn Bhd, its wholly-owned subsidiary, has been awarded a contract renewal by its tier-1 global oil and gas customer ("Tier-1 O&G Company") for the supply of PlatClear, the second generation biofuel, into the European market for 2015.

The Group currently has an existing contract with the Tier-1 O&G Company for the supply of PlatClear to February 2015 for the European market. Pursuant to the renewal agreement, the contract will now be extended to December 2015. The renewed contract represents approximately 40% of the annual production output of the Senawang Facility. At current CPO prices, the estimated annual revenue from the contract will be in the region of US$45million.

The price of PFAD (Palm fatty acid distillate) an inedible by-product arising from the refining process of palm oil -- is, if anything, cheaper than crude palm oil and is sold for industrial uses. This is why GRPH uses it and other palm oil waste to make its biofuel.

According to this Government link, the price of crude palm oil is circa 2000 MYR per MT, which converts to US$469.51 per MT.

However in Europe the biofuel price (it is priced in USD) is some US$400 a MT more than the price of crude palm oil. Which means the margin will be even higher when comparing with PFAD and other palm oil waste.

The price being pushed higher by Soya Bean prices.

---

I have no idea what any of this means for GRPH's revenue or profit on its long standing biofuel contract with the European major, which was valued at US$45 million 12 months ago, but the numbers above suggests if anything that the margin will be higher.

here we go perhaps..gla..

with a little more pushing this should cross the 50 dma ,not seen since mid April..

Well hopefully I have been lucky with my investment timing today,
a 7.63% rise is a good sign...more to come tomorrow perhaps..gla

I have had this on my monitor for ages, and like the story of the company,
and feel that a certain amount of money for the longterm has been ploughed into GRPH this later level(s)...and the chart to me looks promising for an uplift,
So have put my foot in for a while, just to see if things can pick up from here,

I must admit to not reading all peps. chatter, but have some been locked in here a while??...or suffered loses and left??....gla.

As rob67 says, this mornings tv viewing, has stirred up a little interest in the wording of Graphene alone..

The quiet BB are the best ones. I thought everyone knew that.

I share Arli's view on the A66 accident, namely it is not a matter for discussion on ADVFN.

Leeds, this graphene stuff seems capable of miracles. Shame your thread has all but died.

Tell me, in your opinion, could graphene have played a role in that joyous incident this June 16, at almost 5pm, on the A66 near Blind Woman's Corner at Warcop?

PETRONAS Approves Development Plan for Malaysia's Offshore Ophir Oil Field
by Rigzone Staff|Tuesday, September 01, 2015

Australia's Octanex N.L. disclosed Tuesday that Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has approved the revised field development plan (FDP) for the Ophir oil field in Block PM 305, offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

Work on the $90 million Ophir field project, which is being developed under a Risk Sharing Contract (RSC) granted in 2014 to Ophir Production Sdn Bhd (OPSB), will commence immediately. OPSB is a joint venture company comprising Octanex (50 percent), Scomi Energy Services Bhd (30 percent) and Vestigo Petroleum Sdn Bhd (20 percent).

Octanex indicated that a comprehensive project cost optimization work for the Ophir oil project was undertaken following the decline in oil price, resulting in approximately 30 percent cost savings due to reduced industry costs.

Facilities for the Ophir oil field include three production wells, a well head platform and a leased floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

The development .... includes drilling of three production wells from a single wellhead platform producing into a leased tanker for storage and offloading of crude.

The drilling fluid market was more than $8billion in 2014.Even if there was a 50% reduction over the next couple of years, there would be enough meat on the bone for GRPH to have a nibble at.

Leeds GRPH are not out to corner the drilling fluids market a tiny fraction of a percentage point will mean huge growth for them ,that was my main reason for posting when the bashers were pointing out the fall in drilling activity due to lower oil prices it matters very little at this stage in the companies growth as GRPH would surprise me if they are able even to supply Scomi with all their needs at the present time until the new plant comes into operation.

But its heartening to see that the fall in drilling activity will be nowhere near the Armageddon scenario the bashers and others are predicting.

We do not actually know it is Shell.

What we do know is that it is a European oil company which is one of the five largest oil companies in the world and it is currently testing platdrill 'to improve its environmental profile'.

Shell just happens to be GRPH's largest company and ships $40 million of its platclear to Europe every year. Shell has had a strong presence in Malaysia for decades.

The testing involves blending platdrill with one of the company's own drilling products. The testing will be completed in Q4.

Shell is moving its rigs to the arctic now. Whether it is they, or BP or Total (the other top five oil companies based in Europe) testing platdrill, we will find out later in the year.

GRPH has no past connections with either BP or Total.

Why do people think Shell will use their product in the Arctic, has it performed in sub zero temperatures ? Or are people just hoping.

In time all companies will be required to use products like Platdrill.

Environmental issues will force them to.

You can bet your bottom dollar Shell will be when exploring in the Artic

How many more companies have been able to commercialise grapheme to the extent that GRPH have, we now have world beating products like platdrill which is 84% biodegradable how much money will that save drilling companies I would ask, like any new product it will take time to build a regular order flow but we are on the way to a world beating company.

GRPH will not be immune to the ups and downs of the oil market and we are not out to corner the drilling fluids market wells have still to be drilled and we should still get a decent revenue out of it don't forget when Shell start drilling in the Artic with GRPHs platdrill this will be a game changer of course the paid bashers and shorts will give us reasons why this will not be the case.

GRPH is not the only share in my portfolio but it is probably the most bashed by paid bashers and shorts who have to post misinformation and untruths as this is their remit and how they make cash at the end of the day.
