Garth, well done for holding on for so long, even if you let some go along the way. I've held for a decade or so and like the company. No doubt if this was listed in the USA it would be worth at least double its current quoted value.

Well run company in interesting areas. I have held a small core continually for over 20 years Netty. I just wish I had held on to more. 67.5p purchase price on the ones I have in paper still.

The thread header was of course tongue in cheek when started almost 20 years ago. Maybe it should now read - no future in laser, fibre-optics and space communications...?

The PE is high in the event of a massive market sell off. But in that event I expect I would be selling my vinyl collection and backing the truck up.

Of limited help, I know. But those is my feelings.

Announcement today

To my untutored mind it sounds like a groundbreaking advance in satellite communications using lasers on a system launched by Japan, and using GHH specially developed photonics. Huge feather in the cap for GHH and, who knows, a whole new field may be opening up. Management policy looks to be spot on, and as a long-term shareholder I congratulate them and the scientific/engineering team involved.

GHH confirmed that its financial year ending 30 September 2020 is expected to have ended slightly ahead of management's previous expectations.


Investor's Champion likes this busines but GHH has always struggled to deliver the sort of financial returns one might expect from a specialist of its kind. Peak operating margins have hovered around 13% with peak return on equity approx. 10%.

peel hunt opens with a buy 1650, finncap with a reduction to 1150
it's almost averaging these figures.

Yep, it looks like the market is having difficulty valuing this company at the moment. My view is that it's good value at this price, so I've just made a modest purchase to add to my long-held holding. It could fall further though, and the share price seems sensitive to China/USA trade issues. My own view is that this is a great company for those taking a long term view.

IQE update today:
Photonics

The Group issues revised constant currency (USD) guidance for the
Photonics segment which it now expects to grow by less than 30% year on
year (previous guidance of over 50%)

looks as though this fall is turning into a rout, might have thought that it would be a takeover target at these levels.
