18/9/2012 16:00 | Moz - ta, found a price for them now main difference between subs & warrants is the former (now usually issued by IT's) are a form of share so can go into an isa as the ord shares. warrants are a separate instrument. otherwise same principle of the higher gearing & less cash tied up lots of formulas for value etc v the share, there is a warrant thread HL used to trade warrants on-line, which I prefer, now I believe phone only. have found them a punt in the past, some very profitable, some expired worthless. used warrants to trade KMR in the past, spread was ok (usually large on others) & they lagged the share price movements of the ords. still 2 years to go here to exp, share price needs to increase faster than the time value reduces, but opportunities can arise when overlooked by others china demand seems to be the concern atm, suggestions of a real estate bubble, could be more influential than the euro problems | gurp
17/9/2012 17:20 | Thanks chaps. I played with warrants a long time ago without much success - these are effectively the same thing as far as I can see. I think you are right Mozy if you are saying that once the share price reaches 130 the warrant price will move penny for penny with it - until a point defined by the market where the time to expiry will quickly make the subs share worthless in it's own right and only 'of worth' by exercising them. There is thus some potential for them to increase in value significantly once 130 is reached - if things go as it seems they might and large gold/silver miner share prices recover and power on then GPM shares should do well - say they get to 200p by next May (purely hypothetical) - GPMS may be worth 80p then - which would be tremendous. But at some point before expiry - perhaps a length of time derived somehow from the price and remaining time - the price of the subs share will quickly evaporate...I think. This refers to warrants but I believe the logic applies here (GPMS anyway). None of the above should be construed as advice or coming from someone who knows more than you as it doesn't! Grateful to discuss with fellow investors that's all. | wizard7
17/9/2012 14:51 | Wizard - as jimbo states. I have mine in HL nominee, and they email me now and again at the start of the months which they can be exercised. All I have to do is contact them to excercise. Obv they are out of the money but i do intend to convert them if the price of the ords ever exceeds 130p however it all depends on the price of the subs. Might be more profitable to sell on the run up to 130p. Not really too sure how to measure thier value. They are about 11p at the moment but once the ords hit 130p will the subs just trade and the ord price less 130p? | mozy123
17/9/2012 14:28 | wizard7, I've converted subscription shares in both a SIPP and and ISA before; both of which are nominee accounts. Basically, the conversion is just treated as a corporate action - you'll have a set length of time to respond. Just bear in mind that you'll have to pay the exercise price (£1.30 per sub share in the case of GPMS) when/if you convert. If you can't afford to convert, the subscription shares will expire, worthless... Hope this helps. Jimbo | jimbo55
17/9/2012 14:16 | Mozy do you have experience of converting sub shares like GPMS in a SIPP for example? Or do you see them as a sell in their own right later on (when massively in profit but before expiration)? | wizard7
17/9/2012 12:14 | Gurp - GPMS are options until nov 2014 to buy GPM shares at 130p. No warrants | mozy123

16/9/2012 14:18 | Just thinking ahead to GPMS exercising...has anyone done this with a CREST nominee account before? It all looks very complex - is it somethind SIPPDEAL should know about and sort out without much grief? TIA wiz | wizard7
