Many thanks for the link, DIAMOND1. I'll watch that. I had very recently put ALS on my watch list on the ichimokutrader web site along with a number of other London listed miners I have recently come across. Going by the ALS share price it seems to have been out of favour since late 2020. I had a quick look at the ALS advfn bb and noticed you post on it. I'll read up on the company over the weekend. Many thanks.

papillon, you missed a UK company in your search for miners. Altus Strategies (ALS) is a sort of 'Mining Royalty company, but with it's own assets as well. Take a look.

After a recent pull back, it's an absolute steal I. M. H. O. of course.

If you invest in GPM, you're only gambling, podgyted. That's what I'm doing. I bought GPM because I wanted a punt on mid/small cap precious metals miners, especially gold miners and I didn't know any listed in London. I've since latched on to PUR & SOLG and recently followed the lead of their respective directors and bought both. PUR did rather well today following the good news RNS.
I sold some of my GPM first thing this morning because I thought gold might drop below 1800 again today. I bought back those GPM shares when I thought that wasn't going to happen. If I've made a mistake it's not the end of the world.

PS I checked the performance of VanEck Junior gold miners ETF (ARCX:GDXJ) tonight, which invests in the North American mid/small cap gold miners GPM invests in and the price only dropped by 1.18% so not all of these junior NA miners got "hammered" on American exchanges today. Far from it, judging by the ARCX:GDXJ performance. Hence though the GPM NAV will be lower tomorrow, if the ARCX:GDXJ ETF performance is anything to go by the fall will likely be minimal.

PPS In after hours trading GDXJ rose by 0.44% so the fall on the day was reduced to a miniscule 0.74%

Not sure why but this happened in NA tonight:-

The majors advanced a little bit (Barrick, Newmont, Wheaton, Franco-Nevada etc) but the mid/small caps GPM invests in got hammered.

Roxgold down 6%, Americas Gold & silver down 5%.....

Could all reverse tomorrow but I'd be wary - discount is minimal.

Expecting a NAV below 58.5p tomorrow.

That last minute drop to 54.6p is based on the price of a small sell of just 2,499 shares @ 54.6p reported and timed at 4:35pm after the market closed.
The official closing price spread is bid @ 54.6p and offer @ 57p (54.6-57p). There is no official mid price, but based on the official spread it should be 55.8p.

5 day gold chart. If support around current price fails then the next support level is below 1800.

Possible rise in interest rates to counteract inflation spooks US markets

Yes, podgyted, the DOW is well down as are commodities, including gold & silver and cryptocurrencies. Reminiscent of the falls in March 2020, at the start of the pandemic, when everything fell.

Not on the basis of tonight - the US sold-off everything - PM and base metals down along with all three indices.

Tomorrow will tell if this is a US problem or whether it spreads.

Doesn't look like gold will hit 1900 anytime soon, let alone by the end of the week. Shame.

Annual US inflation rose 4.2% last month, showing yet again that inflation is seriously on the rise. All good for commodities.

“This is the largest 12-month increase since a 4.9-percent increase for the period ending September 2008,” the report said.

I'm not selling, briggs1209. I'm still hopeful that the gold price will finish above 1850 and the silver price above 28 by the end of the week.

I sold out here today but will look to buy back. Markets look a bit toppy and the huge stimulus may cause a mess. Very hard to predict where we are going.

Bit of a sell off in gold & silver, but the good news is gold stayed above 1800 and silver stayed above 27.

Do watch both of these videos. This guy (Roubini) knows what he's talking about. He's the economist who predicted the credit crunch of 2007-2009 years before it happened. He was known at the time he was making his predictions as the "Prophet of Doom", but he was proved correct! The 2nd video is very interesting because he makes some acute observations on gold and is damning of cryptocurrencies, which he likens to Ponzi schemes.

I found Michael Gayed, illuminating, DIAMOND1, I suspect he's a mathematician which is presumably why I enjoyed the video.

papillon,

I have to say that I found that difficult to listen to. I really still don't know the what the guy was on about. Even David Lin, the guy doing the interview, sounded confused.

Another very interesting video with some very illuminating charts shown.

I like the lumber to gold ratio chart and lumber to gold ratio vs VIX index.
