Way oversold in the short term, £/$ is part of the problem currently.

Well, now is the time to buy as I’ve just dumped all mine and taken a 22% hit. Should rocked from here if history repeats itself.

buywell3 - For once I suspect you have the direction correct - Now product pipeline seems weak and the idiotic splitting off of the consumer products division will (imo) significantly imact the cash flow - This division used to supply the cash to fund the pharma side.

The apparent starving of consumer division funding (adverising and marketing support) will (imo) make matters even worse - (Look at the mess the Sage of Omaha has made of Heinz by cutting back on brand promotion)

Not the best parallels with a large cap like GSK but I was on board the sell off at Venture Capitalists Electra in 2017 for my sins. By March 2017 the share had reached a 2 billion cap and analysts had it as a highly rated FTSE 100 stock on the basis the Market was under estimating the sum of parts ( yep I know...analysts). Well even the Market was a tad optimistic.
The share hit 5,100 on the eve of the first cash distribtion of 2612 per share. Subsequently the cash payout has totalled just 3922p including that initial special dividend, leaving a sizeable loss with the share listed at 301 as we stand.

Meanwhile, hoping for a solid bounce today on GSK. ( probably not...spread bets well in the red)

PNN; a recent example where the company was split and share holders are left with a reduced divi and are still in the dark as to what will be done with the cash pile.

Yup, an extraordinary amount of money.

UK large company spin offs have a strong history of value creation, ICI/Astra, Hanson/Imperial Tobacco (now brands) Granada Plc/Compass.. onwards.

And I'm sure many before that which are before my time.

Its like 1999/2000 tech bubble everyone looking for the quick money, Bitcoin approaching 60000 etc
Value / dividend stocks like ULVR GSK etc should come back in fashion at some stage

GSK is a poster child for why you dont buy shares for dividends you buy them for growth, also steering away from high debt companies like gsk a way of avoiding grief (and avoid buying anything listed in the UK pretty much when you have access to the best market in the world, the USA) Dont get the obsession with the split, wishful thinking over reality I guess, it wont make any difference to the overall value and who wants to own the household division anyway, it will just be a mountain of debt selling toothpaste with next to no growth.

It isn't very often I find myself agreeing with Monty but I believe that when we get a handle on the split of pharma and consumer healthcare and terms for holders that this company will roar in to action!

Thanks guys, the monthly chart certainly shows "what goes down can certainly go up" and it is a lovely simple little chart to read (which suits me). As I am here as a investment with no hurry to sell, I am certainly looking for that magic 1800 area. I will sit tight and wait for that magic little number and probably kick myself for not buying more at 1200.

I'm hoping for a return to £15 when I will make serious money from all the ones I have loaded up on all the way down from £14. I don't think its unlikely to get there in the relatively short term (12 months?)either.
In the meantime I also hold BHP RIO and GLEN to cheer me up. Also AZN and ULVR - not so cheering. But all good for income.

Similar shares to me but will add IMB, Glen and BP to that list. Always thought they were a relatively safe defensive bunch but performance across them has been xxxx poor.Sticking with them though and all good divi payers(HSBC will be come a Tuesday) although would swap the divis for less capital depreciation

Hello guys, sorry about my rant. I will keep on topic of gsk from now. Probably feeling grumpy as I have a badly broken leg from slipping in the snow.Anyways back to gsk and my bet is the sentiment will change to the positive side soon and this bad period will be a distant memory. Other scenario is we hit the 1000 area for a bit first (in which case i will buy shed loads more) and then this will recover.GSK is now one of my core stocks with vod rdsb hsba. I am very happy to have joined the party here and look forward to the ride. 1800 this time next your Rodney!

EW has levitated in her communication to analysts during her time at this company. I understand that she prioritises resources in certain areas such as oncology, and we all know that cancer sufferers have been the forgotten throughout the last twelve months, but this is not the reason for the weak performance. That is the future for GSK, more that overall services within health care systems have been compromised as a result of focusing all capacity at Covid, and many of their leading drugs are now generic, and the stronger revenue generators within patent constraints may have seen lower growth as a result of fewer GP. prescriptions. But the discussion about the dividend is just pointless, it needed cutting if GSK is to start to strengthen its pipeline of new products, was way too generous, and it should not be a parameter to value the company.
