The libertarian financial website Zero Hedge was permanently suspended from Twitter on Friday after it published an article questioning the involvement of a Chinese scientist in the outbreak of the deadly novel coronavirus.

Moderna Therapeutics and Inovio Pharmaceuticals are among the companies turning their focus to the emerging virus, called 2019-nCoV. Each has received millions in funding from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, a global organization that has set an audacious goal: to have a vaccine ready for human testing, a process that traditionally takes years, in just 16 weeks.

GSK confirmed that it has no active coronavirus programs, although it said it's monitoring the situation closely. Sanofi, which is partnered with the Coalition for Innovations in Preparation for Epidemics, also said it's following developments.
Merck has taken an initial step to form a team of scientists to "assess internal assets for potential antiviral activity toward the Wuhan coronavirus and related viruses," a spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Pfizer did not return a request for comment.

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson is working to develop a vaccine for the emergent coronavirus identified last month in Wuhan, China, launching initial efforts to construct from the virus' genetic sequence a candidate that could be tested in humans.
"We have mobilized — internal and external — already dozens of scientists who are working on this," Paul Stoffels, J&J's chief scientific officer, said on CNBC Monday. "We are pretty confident that we can get something made which will work and which will stay active for the longer term."
J&J is the largest drugmaker to announce a vaccine development program for the virus, which has rapidly spread across China and to at least a dozen other countries. Importantly, J&J has the manufacturing capacity to produce a vaccine at scale, should its scientists hit upon a construct that appears effective.

People panic when there is an outbreak which has no cure for it,like fighting an enemy you can not see,Chinese are more prone to deadly diseases because they eat those animals which carry the viruses.

My take fwiw is there are hundred's of 1000's infected in China that are not reported. Hence the actual death rate is miniscule and probably no more than a flu outbreak in the uk in % terms. This had been massively overblown by the press as well as the far east cultural reaction to virus outbreaks.

Plenty of conspiracy theories about, but little evidence. If the virus was man made it would be apparent in its genetic code which the Chinese have already released. Also if it was a bio weapon that had escaped it’s rubbish. You would want something that was deadly and harder to spread, rather than easy to spread and relatively benign, which this one is.

China now admits to 7,771 cases across the country, Adding nearly 1,800 from 5,974 yesterday. The death toll has climbed to 170, and 170 patients have been cured. Some 31 cases were labeled "severe" and nearly 82,000 are under observation. What is perhaps most shocking is that the number of suspected cases soared by nearly 3,000 overnight from 9,239 to 12,167

In a disturbing development, three of the Japanese citizens rescued from Wuhan aboard Japan's evac flight Wednesday have tested positive for cornavirus - so now the Japanese government is essentially importing the virus on the evacuation flight. We hope all those on the flight will be quarantined for a while given the virus's reputation of spreading asymptomatically.

Here's a breakdown of all the revisions...

Several epidemiologists have suggested that many of the deaths caused by the coronavirus that surfaced in Wuhan last month have probably 'slipped through the cracks' - either having been misdiagnosed or deliberately attributed to something else. Many suspect that Beijing is concealing the true extent of the outbreak. And now, one reporter claims that a Chinese media organization has found proof.

The East Asia Correspondent for DW cited reports in a tweet claiming that health officials have been secretly moving some bodies directly from the hospital to the crematorium.

Novartis will not bring forward a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's lung treatment Advair, disclosing Wednesday that it has stopped work on its copy after years of development. As a result, the Swiss drugmaker recorded an impairment charge of $442 million related to its write-down of the generic drug program.

Positive for Advair and leaves Mylan as the only potential competitor I believe.

"Is this the man behind the global Coronavirus pandemic"


In light of growing speculation, most of it within less than official circles, that the official theory for the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic, namely because someone ate bat soup at a Wuhan seafood and animal market... is a fabricated farce, and that the real reason behind the viral spread is because a weaponized version of the coronavirus (one which may have originally been obtained from Canada), was released by Wuhan's Institute of Virology (accidentally or not), a top, level-4 biohazard lab which was studying "the world's most dangerous pathogens",

perhaps it would be a good idea for the same Wuhan Institute of Virology to remove the following "help wanted" notice, posted on November 18, 2019, according to which the institute is seeking to hire one or two post-doc fellows, who will use "bats to research the molecular mechanism that allows Ebola and SARS-associated coronaviruses to lie dormant for a long time without causing diseases."

The right candidate will:

Have obtained or is about to obtain a PhD in life science/biomedical related fields;

Have a reliable and rigorous work style, with strong independent scientific research ability and teamwork spirit;

Have strong English communication and writing skills, have research papers published in the international mainstream academic journals

Have a cell biology, immunology, genomics and other relevant background experience is preferred;




So to summarize:

1. One of China's top virology and immunology experts was and still works at China's top-rated biohazard lab, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which some have affectionately called the real Umbrella Corp.

2. Since 2009, Peng has been the leading Chinese scientist researching the immune mechanism of bats carrying and transmitting lethal viruses in the world.

3. His primary field of study is researching how and why bats can be infected with some of the most nightmarish viruses in the world including Ebola, SARS and Coronavirus, and not get sick.


4. He was genetically engineering various immune pathways (such as the STING pathway in bats) to make the bats more or less susceptible to infection, in the process potentially creating a super-resistant bug.

5. As part of his studies, Peng also researched mutant Coronavirus strains that overcame the natural immunity of some bats; these are "superbug" Coronavirus strains, which are not resistant to any natural immune pathway, and now appear to be out in the world.

6. As of mid-November, his lab was actively hiring inexperienced post-docs to help conduct his research into super-Coronaviruses and bat infections.

7. Peng's work on virology and bat immunology has received support from the National "You Qing" Fund, the pilot project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the major project of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Something tells us, if anyone wants to find out what really caused the coronavirus pandemic that has infected thousands of people in China and around the globe, they should probably pay Dr. Peng a visit.

Last year a mysterious shipment was caught smuggling Coronavirus from Canada. It was traced to Chinese agents working at a Canadian lab. Subsequent investigation by GreatGameIndia linked the agents to Chinese Biological Warfare Program from where the virus is suspected to have leaked causing the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak.





But then there is

The latest number of the number of people infected is at least 1,975 people of which this Coronavirus has killed 56 people, according to that nation’s National Health Commission.  That puts the death rate at about 2.8% or less which is within the normal range of the viral season. There is still no indication that this is anything out of the ordinary that would point to a biological weapon leak. A case has appeared now in California of a person who just returned from Wuhan. This is not a virus that you would get by simply going to the movies and someone in there has it. There has to be some contact with them sneezing on you or you have touched the surface of something that they have touched.
Our model still points to 2022. Perhaps this is Phase I.
