Iraq/KRG political issues been a thorn in the side of Kurdi oilies for decades.

A significant boost to Somaliland-Taiwan economic relations came in January when British-Turkish firm Genel Energy formally announced the discovery of oil in Somaliland, after 11 years of exploration. Taiwan’s CPC has a 49 percent stake in the block where oil was discovered, and according to Lou, CPC expects to begin drilling a well in the fourth quarter of this year.

I suspect that somebody has been given the heads up.

At the end of April two tankers the NEVERLAND and the ADVANTAGE(AMAX)ANTHEM left Ceyhan empty after waiting a month to load KRG/Iraqi crude and since then neither of those ships have been back.

Until now.

At 8am UK time this morning the AMAX ANTHEM arrived and parked up at the northern end of the anchorage.

That ship is owned by the Turkish company GEDEN LINES, Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati As (Geden Lines).

"Geden Line is a subsidiary of Turkish conglomerate Çukurova Holding AS, one of the largest industrial and commercial national groups, set up in 1923 and owned by Karamehmet family (reference businessman is Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, supposed to be the country's richest man).)

That very same Mehmet Karamehmet also owns 56% of our neighbour Genel.

"Genel is a private, independent oil exploration and production company which holds oil and gas assets in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Genel is, indirectly, 56 per cent owned by Mehmet Karamehmet.)

So a crude oil tanker that hasn't been seen at Ceyhan in more than two months and is owned by the same man that owns Genel is now waiting at the northern end of the anchorage adjacent to the KRG/ICG jetty.

Too early to draw any conclusions but it needs watching and I'll be watching it.
