20/7/2020 11:35 | This was the loss making part of the original business with massive cash requirements and very low margins, meaning there is little or no room for any mishaps. Also the net cash position is probably misleading as others have pointed out. | highlands
20/7/2020 10:40 | This is now in the bottom draw of the bottom draws of my multi draw chest which is in the attic of the house that I will probably not visit for years. Naff sector to be invested in. | swinsco
20/7/2020 02:34 | Mark1000. All very well made points and agree with them all. I do believe GFRD are in a better place than most in UK construction but the proof is yet to come. But that's gambling! | lastoneout
20/7/2020 02:29 | Galliford are a new company who clearly need to improve on the margins the previous company (ex housebuilder) made. It would seem someone in the boardroom thought this possible. Let's throw off the housing side, get debt free and see how we do. I kind of hope those people knew what they were doing. They would be better placed than me. | lastoneout
19/7/2020 18:57 | It's not gallifordIt's costain & kier also. Balfour Beatty makes good margins but the are into other sectors also i.e nuclear, defence. To me gfrd, costain, kier exist to make money for the employees including the senior management on big salary. They are not inclined towards to shareholder and only exist on the markets because they might need to raise with costain raising 100m recently. | ammu12
19/7/2020 15:12 | What does their record suggest?. And for those who are referencing net cash v the market cap, with respect you may not understand how UK construction sector contracts work. FT had a detailed article on this following the sector 'issues', from memory posted it here at the time. | essentialinvestor
19/7/2020 00:47 | Sorry Blackrock | lastoneout
19/7/2020 00:44 | I think we are being held back by JPM selling out. They can't have many left IMV | lastoneout
18/7/2020 19:59 | I reckon we might see share price going sub 100 next week... it's a shame that with all the cash the share price is struggling... they need to get the margins sorted. 1-2% won't do it for them...They should be aiming for 5% atleast... | ammu12
18/7/2020 19:20 | That's wrong then cause we won't be able to accurately understand the cash position of the company..... | ammu12
18/7/2020 17:18 | Because there margins are so terrible that they grudge paying everything back outHigh volume business with no profit... pile of garbage at the moment | jock3636
18/7/2020 14:14 | Why are galliford not paying suppliers on time ????They have cash but still not paying them.... | ammu12
18/7/2020 01:28 | There has been some complaints from the Companies supliers in the Construction press that Galliford at the end of June slipped payments. It goes some way to explain the unexpectedly good cash figures its old school window dressing who would have guessed it.One thing which did impress me is the senior staff took a temporary paycut even though they had all this so called cash in the Company this gives me hope at least their actions mirror reality. | mark1000
17/7/2020 13:59 | £200m cash vs £100m mcap doesn't need a BARON to figure the value dislocation here, something gotta give UP soon.. | rumobejo
16/7/2020 17:11 | Mark1000 - what a terrible / cynical opinion to have........unfortun | jaf111
16/7/2020 12:02 | 150p share price target was a little disappointing tbh - bottom drawer - | tomboyb
16/7/2020 11:53 | On yesterdays update I think they should have been able to give some range for the loss say 30 to 50 million instead I suspect they are still working on do they don't they absolutely take provisions on everything max out the loss blame it all on Covid once in a life opportunity. Directors know bonus payment will be small or nothing so why not set up next year to be a stonking first full year for the new Galliford do you know thats what I would do. | mark1000
15/7/2020 17:07 | Dismal market response today. Looked hopeful early doors but it faded as the day progressed. If we don't find some strength from somewhere it will be sub £ by close of play tomorrow. | lord gnome
15/7/2020 10:05 | By the way I am not saying GFRD is not a good buy at this price I am just saying I am dissapointed with the lack of info | mark1000
15/7/2020 09:49 | Why r u very impressed honestly insufficient information yes it highlights the positive of the order book and cash balances and that production is ongoing. On the bad news minus 5% margin at the divisional level they could have spelled out some guidance on the bottom line. They could have stated what use they have made of Government schemes outside furlow this is standard practice. If the impressive cash balance is so high because they have not paid 2 qtrs of VAT it really is a bit dishonest not to explain that. It is quite clear that if trading at a loss and cash is good then 9 times out of 10 debts have gone up as they know this figure today why not say anything about it? | mark1000
15/7/2020 08:40 | Very impressed by the trading update not sure you could ask for much more in the current environment | paulof2 |
