Really, the local should be concerned with the bigger picture, and start to realise that we are all interconnected these days, even in N Ireland.

Just look at this recent story, anything familiar? Can anyone else see why the existing road has such a poor saftey record and needs work? It's just pure commonsense that this kind of arrangement must be changed, yet the pressure group seem to have their way.

ALL vesting for the new A5 dual-carriageway has been stopped by the Department for Regional Development pending the judgement on a Judicial Review which has been lodged this week.

It is understood that the Roads Service will take no further steps to vest land required for the £850m road. Work on the project is due to start this autumn.

The development comes as the Alternative A5 Alliance revealed that they had launched a legal challenge against the so-called Western Transport Corridor proceeding.

The move has been criticised by local business representatives who say that the Public Inquiry was the forum for addressing issues in relation to the road.

A very sensible blog discusses A5 pros and cons.

Personally, I wouldn't want that sort of increase if I lived on a country lane and had been used to significantly less traffic. The locals have my sympathy.

However, I do think that the compromise arrangement from February seemed like commonsense, and with the conditions likely to be rigorously enforced, it looked a practical way forward, for the general good.

ps assuming that our pp is quashed, this could turn out to be a pyrrhic victory and possibly represent the peak of the 'campaign' against omagh minerals. I truly hope that the J R has wised up to root of this complaint.

I was looking at the complaints that up to 145 lorries a day were transporting rock from the mine. In an idle moment I looked at the local bus timetables for services that run past my front door. I stopped after calculating that on just 3 services there are 480 double decker buses a day. How do I go about getting £10,000? Anybody?

Hi george, do you or anyone else know when/if we might be getting more information?
Has Roland re-submitted plans for the transport scheme, or do we have just have to sit on our hands for now?

goldnoil, I think you are right about the ombudsman.
The planning service would probably not want a dispute with the ombudsman.

Could it be the case that Galantas has also been a victim of maladministration, having gone to considerable time and expense to submit a planning application that having been approved [with numerous conditions]may now be quashed?

Rhotoid - youre a cretin. First off, having never seen you post here even once before until now the conclusion i came to is that youre not a holder and are trying to talk the price down. It wouldnt surprise me if you were the irish numpty in question. Secondly, wtf are you on about talking all that rubbish about a judge ect??! Ive never said i knew the exact details, its just that imo, looking at a range of options, that seems the likliest. Far more likely than your scenario of mass bribes and corruption. If you have something sensible to say ill listen and respond, otherwise this conversation is a waste of my time

The proceedural failings might refer to the NI ombudsperson's ruling wherein the BBC reported that there was maladministration and major systems failure within the planning service for not having stopped Galantas from removing rock from the site.

The BBC report can be viwewed here for those who missed it:

By the way two of the NIMBYS who are interviewed together are business owners. One is a photographer with a premisess in Omagh and the other built a B&B near the mine since it opened.

Here's your response Bamboo

"Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has told her executive colleagues that more jobs will be coming to Northern Ireland before Christmas."

Re FG Wilson, Employment Minister Stephen Farry described it as a "very difficult situation"

"I do sincerely hope that many of those affected by this will find other work in NI in the very near future.

There's 100 on offer here Stephen. YOU CHOOSE.

'you motives are blindingly obvious' - ????what????

My motives are simply as a shareholder of many years who wants to see the the company make money and get the exposure of a rising gold price.

I'm sure the judge will be interested to here your representations as you apparently know it is only a 'minor loophole', why don't you offer your services to the company...well?

Front page news and continued on page 5 of the Ulster Herald out today. Tomorrow is crunch day and it looks as though the council are just going to cave in and set us back for a lengthy period of time. Job losses will be substantial.

BBC 13 September 2012 Last updated at 06:20

"Northern Ireland Executive ministers are expected to meet later for what is being described as a mini economic forum.

First Minister Peter Robinson and a number of other ministers with economic responsibility are taking part.

They will discuss the latest increase in unemployment and how the executive should respond.

The jobless rate went up to 8.2% for the three months ending in July, which is higher than the UK average."

How should the executive respond?

ref: post 2253

The council HAS admitted something has gone seriously wrong as it's not contesting it and admitted guilt for crying out loud.

What EXACTLY is this 'some technicality' and 'minor loopholes' you keep plucking out of the air, if you know then enlighten us.

How do you know for certain 'procedural failings' couldn't involve corruption??Wouldn't that be a nailed on JR?

george, I must admit that I don't follow all the issues here with the reasoning behind the JR, but I likewise felt happy in February when, the positive planning decision was reached by Alex Attwood, that a fair compromise had been made.
It would be interesting to discover the reason for the procedural failing. Attwood will be fuming about this.

"procedural Failings by planning service" in this case implies a technicality. We can assume that the planning service didnt ride completely roughshod over the normal process of granting permission. We can base this on the info we have been given to date re the application; the time taken to grant permission and all the work that went into it which we know of; and the liasing with different stakeholders and interested parties and the concessions that were proposed and granted. Everything done was done in a thorough and deliberate manner. It wasnt as if the company asked, and were granted a week later, permission without the relevant work being done and without a detailed and comprehensive proposal being submitted. With this in mind, i cant see how any "procedural failings" could be anything other than minor loopholes which our irish crusader picked up on and used to his advantage. Are you really suggesting that the planning service overlooked numerous issues and issued a hasty and rushed ruling? Because the timescales involved dont imply this was the case

georgethefourth -
'some technicality no doubt', what utter drivel, if is was 'some technicality' then it wouldn't reach the high threshold of a JR.
Perhaps you can enlighten us all what this 'some technicality'is?
