NickB It's not a personal prejudice (though I admit that standing for hours in an unheated hall in February in a temperature below zero does concentrate the mind on questions like "what am I doing here?" or "what is the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything?" [42]) it's a simply question of the prudent use of finances. If they are getting contacts that lead to paying customers then make the (substantial) investment incurred by exhibiting. If they do not make those leads and every year the costs outweigh what is gained then they have to look at other ways of getting traction for sales. Looking at the accounts it appears there is clearly no demonstrable traction yet being gained from attendance... hence my focus on cutting an unproductive cost. It will be interesting to see how our new COO/CFO views costs. The defence that "I am here because everybody else is here" doesn't stand up if there is no income flow from it or less than the costs incurred. Better to spend the money on sending IM and the top guys in the USA to the people who can and will buy the product if they can see that it is reliable and saves them money in large amounts.

BeBop helps us keep the workflow in the Cloud on big jobs as we can pass our editing onto Avid for high end editing.

Everything stays in the Cloud which is good for us.

Agree we don’t get mentioned or talked about in important parts of the industry, massive on going marketing failure!

So you think we should be the only Video company to not exhibit at NAB.

It's a concern that bebop technology won the virtualisation award and blackbird isn't mentioned. The technology may be totally different but the benefits seem very very similarWww.beboptechnology.com

Nickb is a plonker.

if the market is moving to the cloud it is doing it without FBT.

Yes the market is being considered but on the evidence to date just not Blackbird. I don't know why they don't have any traction. Perhaps they have just too many broken promises over almost 20 years. I'm not expecting anything from NAB as nobody makes a big buy from a trade show. It might lead to a few worthwhile doors but it will be the U.S. team that opens them. The money would be better spent on highly targeted properly researched approaches but that takes real effort and application. Does the current team have that or are they just salesmen rather than winners?

Thanks for posting that.

Cloud is being seriously looked at by major networks across the world now including Sky in the UK.

One thing an executive from Sky said at NAB they were looking for complete end to end Cloud workflow but no one vendor can do that so I guess they will have to go with a Cloud provider that has a large eco system of partners so Microsoft Azure fits that more than the others at the moment.

Very fertile ground for us now at long last!

Well, this is just awful.

Also, in case any interest...

I mean, no deals of any significance announced and the first quarter is finished.

I guess NickB is right, this isn't for people who want to get an ROI, it's only for those who understand the market and want to invest in a company that loses money for 20 years.

Sudheer Sirivara, General Manager, Azure Media at Microsoft Corp. said: “Video workflows are moving rapidly to the cloud across sectors such as sports, esports, news, education and entertainment. This latest version of Blackbird further enhances organizations’ ability to rapidly create, manage and distribute video content, while massively reducing production costs and enhancing team collaboration.”;

Someone please tell me that NickB has been pumping a news release at NAB for the umpteenth year in a row?

Shame for FBT they aren't paid on demos.

Remember when they used to tease Neil Roberts or someone similar at a decent sized company - then 12 months later revenues are down and no mention again.

Latest FBT Tweet

'What a busy start to @NABShow 2019! Non-stop demos of Blackbird to companies looking to move their video workflows to the cloud. We're on the @Microsoft stand SL6716 - see how fast & simple it is to access, edit & publish your video in the cloud'

Best Video Editing app award at the show goes to Blackmagic Design for bringing back the Sony9100 Keyboard👍28512;

Adobe boring

Avid update that is 5-10 years late

BeBop for Cloud virtualisation

Blackbird remains the only true native Cloud Video Editor.

McSean

Am I right in thinking that FBT have moved completely away from direct sales to individuals ie onlinevideoediter and monthly subscriptions through Apps?

If not, where can you sign up as an individual or small company?

Hope all is good... Yes I did, looks impressive and relevant @mdcl.io
Please keep me updated and good luck Sean. Will DM you....

Agree with your comments re NAB and Microsoft, I thought (after 20years) FBT and this truly game-changing technology would not have to be 'riding on the coat-tails' (Kissing Butt) of @Microsoft

Maybe the Microsoft connection runs deeper than we know?

GLM and IMHO

The Microsoft stand is the most strategically stupid stand. Microsoft have their own cloud editing suite.

Being at Microsoft is like a fizzy drink company exhibiting on the same stand as coca cola. It makes coca cola look like they are sponsoring new companies and completely overpowers the message any new company is trying to deliver. It would turn away competing soft drink companies from considering buying out that company.

It is epic-ally stupid IMHO. Better to be at a smaller stand without our vision being diluted, showing that we can support ourselves and who knows an executive might 'discover' blackbird.

It seems Microsoft are stringing FBT along to promote their system, else why have they not put in an offer for FBT or even use blackbird in their workflow? Blackbird is so good Microsoft don't use it, what type of a message is that?

paulcon1,

did you get my pm?

Disappointing only the XYTECH partnership

Anyway I wish the team well they are on a good high profile Cloud stand!
