ortfolio news - TVG to collaborate with The Pirbright Institute to combat deadly African swine fever
Frontier IP, a specialist in commercialising intellectual property, today notes the following announcement from The Pirbright Institute that it has entered into a collaboration with the Group's portfolio company, The Vaccine Group ("TVG" or the "Company"), to revolutionise development of vaccines to combat African swine fever ("ASF").
ASF is highly contagious and deadly to pigs. The virus has devastating impacts, is spreading rapidly around the world and poses a threat to the UK's pig and pork export market, which was valued at £623 million in 2022. No safe and effective vaccines yet exist for ASF .
The project, expected to take 18 months, is backed by funding from the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation.
Frontier IP holds a 17 per cent. equity stake in TVG.
Frontier IP Chief Executive Neil Crabb said: "We are delighted that TVG is entering this collaboration with The Pirbright Institute, a world leader in innovation for preventing and controlling viral diseases in livestock. The partnership represents a strong validation for TVG's herpesvirus-based vaccine platform technology." |
Further to my post above, Diagen.AI actually raised CAD$1.5m in Q1 as announced on March 6th:
In the press release they also state they intend to IPO "later this year":
"The Company will execute future ongoing rolling closings periodically, with a final closing early Q2 of 2024. Use of proceeds of the financing are for general working capital, completion of the Company’s audit and launch of the Company’s intended go public transaction later this year." |
Today's RNS that FIPP holds a 4.26% stake in Diagen AI Inc., which has announced a collaboration with FIPP's investee TVG, sounds encouraging at first look if not hugely significant.
But if you then look at Diagen's investor slide deck, slide 23 reveals that they are completing a pre-IPO round and are looking to go public in this Q2.....
In which case, at North American valuations, a 4.26% stake might be reasonably material to little ol' FIPP.
Now there's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip, as old people would say - and earlier in the slide deck it mentions listing in Q1. Nevertheless Diagen seem keen to list at the earliest opportunity.
Note that Neil Crabb is pictured and mentioned a couple of times as an advisor, and TVG are listed on slides 21 and 22: |
Another potentially valuable addition to the portfolio today. Acquired for the princely sum of £0 plus advisory services. |
Good to see respected venture capital funds are investing in the portfolio. Worth reading the half year results again. |
This one stake Frontier has in Alusid could represent a third of Frontiers market cap at ipo. |
Was expecting news on the USB finished product orders sales anything .May have got the timings wrong but thought it was launch in April. |
Share price near 5year low? Great track record and superb investments reaching fruition. As the CEO said; “take a look at what people in the same sectors have to say about our investee companies”. hxxps://www.tipranks.com/news/company-announcements/premier-miton-ups-stake-in-frontier-ip-group |
Pulsiv news:

Pulsiv Limited, the Cambridge (UK) innovator of power electronics technology will be featured by global electronics distributor and supply-chain expert, Astute Group at Hardware Pioneers 2024. Looked into it more now and I’m starting to see the potential for Molendotech here. West Country is one of 65 River Trusts.
I’m not 100% certain on this but it looks like River Trust carry out testing on behalf of the Environment Agency.
There has been concern at the drop in water tests, falling from 100,000 to 41519 in 2021. But Envionment Agency were creating 50 extra jobs to address this.
The cost of each test on Molendotech Bacterisk is £25. So easy to see how this could turn into a nice earner. |
Nice progress being made by Molendotech who are trialling their Bacterisk kit with the West Country Rivers Trust. I like this line:
“If successful, the methodology can be rolled out to other UK Rivers Trusts.” |
Miton now buying. Will hopefully offset the Quilter selling. |
Yes it a shame that virtually no value of potential is been awarded. But the temptation to add sub40p is a problem |
I fear the share price won’t improve here till the first ipo is announced… which shouldn’t be so long hopefully! |
New upgraded web site from Alusid, presumably gearing up steadily for the IPO - the Journal section articles are worth a read
EDIT - or is it simply that the Journal section hasn't been highlighted here before, as the News section is still out of date?!!: |
Cheers acuere - that's £1.1m of grants won by Fieldwork in the last 3 months. Impressive new CFO too.
The Proactive interview above is worth watching. Lots of optimism and comments about "a strong year ahead" for news flow. |
Good news from Fieldwork Robotics. New CFO and a £600k grant win. |
It’s been a long hard slog for Neil Crabb, no wonder he’s so dismayed at the current share price being near all time lows, when the portfolio is reaching its most exciting phase. |
Neil Crabb is an Excellent CEO always impressed with decisive and detailed responses when interviewed. If we don’t close this ridiculous value to NAV in the next few months with the potential news I will be amazed and extremely disappointed |
The ceo seemed to be genuinely incredulous at the end regarding the current share price, while pointing out that investors should focus on what people within the trade sectors of portfolio companies are saying, as an indication of what to expect. I have to say he is my favourite ceo of any company I invest in. |

I guess it’s the down side of investing in private companies. But you could argue they excepted Financial support from FIPP so a little more detail on the potential Financial scale of the deal without naming the company |
