I wouldn’t be surprised if the BBC fell through because of Java. Could be back on the cards?

if that was the case there would have been no point in doing the trial in the first place because java was known to be used by the platform from the off (i would have thought).

We have talked about this over the past year so yes it is a WoW

yes i remember it came up at an agm a few years back in the context of java script replacing conventional apps on phones, and recently a link was posted regarding transpiling/transcoding software relating to some pilot with forbidden i think.

it sounds like a complete replication of the forscene applet. pretty awesome, wonder how it performs. multicam would be interesting to see.

so it looks like core dev will continue in java and (just like the android / ios editing versions) the .js version will be produced from the core java code.

Huge news! For me this is the biggest announcement since I invested. Java is dead and has such an awful reputation, deserved or otherwise. Moving to JS means not only new markets but much more opportunity from existing markets. I wouldn't be surprised if the BBC fell through because of Java. Could be back on the cards?

The press release is an RNS Reach not a mandatory RNS - it's in their PR section. I do wish, however, that they would check what they are putting on the site - when working I had a rule that anything we were publishing had to be read and checked by 3 unconnected senior people - that way we didn't get things like "Leaning Technologies" (unless this is actually a second contract with a Pisa based business - too much reliance on spell checker which doesn't pick up wrong words).
